  • It is a very exciting time in the photography world with new software updates coming on a regular basis. the most recent update comes to Adobe Lightroom Classic, bringing the Generative Fill function from Adobe Photoshop to the Lightroom Classic platform, called Generative Remove. In this video I will take you through how this new feature works and how it compares to the Generative Fill function in Adobe Photoshop.

    This is a significant win for staying in LR and RAW. I suggest saving Generative AI for more complex tasks and using the local removal tool when possible. Once the Generative feature moves out of 'Early Access,' it will use credits each time you generate. I first try remove and then go to generative when the results are not usable.

      I think you have provided clear advice Ron, only use the AI features where it is really needed !

    This one is a game changer for my post workflow. Being able to do this work in LR and continue to work with the raw file is extremely helpful. Always my biggest gripe with doing anything in PS is dealing with a 2nd file when returning to LR. Hopefully Adobe will increase the credits for doing AI functions. Would be nice if they could add additional selection options beyond just a brush.

      I completely agree Micheal, keeping all your history in LR is a much better situation. I note from the recent work I have done with the remove tool that the algorithm has improved as well, so best to try and remove with content-aware removal tool before using Generative Remove, if you can. Saves on tokens 😀

    Thank you Jamie for reviewing the new tools. I have several photos from the 1700 - 1800's in my area where i struggle to get rid of the modern touches.

    Good timing Jamie! One thing that I picked up on another video was that where there are objects to remove, do this before cropping where these may be at the edge of the crop. I think that this was why the bottom left hand drain was not removed on your first attempt as this crossed over the cropped edge so the AI was comparing the whole image and not the cropped one. Hope that this makes sense.

    Very nice to be able to stay in LR and keep all of the RAW info and history. But as it's using AI, I'm guessing every time I remove an object now it will count against my monthly allocation.

    Thank you so much, Jamie, for an informative and instructive video. This is something that I will be looking forward to using. I just want to mention that the local photo club, of which i am a member, frequently has photo contests. However, the club has decided to not allow AI-edited photos in submitted photos; this, because such edits are stealing from other photographers’ work (according to their resolutions). Isn’t this a commonly misunderstood perception when it comes to AI edits?

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin  Před 27 dny +1

      I see that you understand, but you may wish to point out to the purists in your photoclub that an image captured by a digital camera is technically not a photograph, as light has not been exposed on to a photosensitive material, a digital sensor turns light into data, which is then processed by the CPU in the camera, in fact a JPG is more processed than a RAW image, in addition, many cameras are now using AI as part of their processing capabilities for exposure and auto-focus capabilities, so the silly people in your photo club, may have to start checking which cameras use AI processing. If they wish to be purists and not hypocrites, they should only shoot film !! But thanks for the comment. In my view shoot whatever you want and process as much or as little as you like, the key to photography is having fun 😀

  • @JoeCosentino

    Look T your terms of service you are giving Adobe full rights to your photos, if you use generative fill so who really owns the photo you or Adobe.

    • @jamiermathlin
      @jamiermathlin  Před 24 dny

      It is just for fun 😀However, if you read the terms and conditions, human creation remains copyrightable by the author, however, if you create an image using adobe AI, the output of the AI remains the author's property, not Adobe, unless the majority of the image is produced by Adobe.
