      @marknorris1381 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@eddiebrown687 in so far as life changing it's not a maybe, it's a certainty. The payday for the winner extends to huge sponsorship/endorsement/appearance deals, even back then it was significant in comparison to the prize money, definitely life changing. He would have received nothing other than his runner up prizemoney otherwise, huge difference, particularly for a golfer like Sneed who wasn't a 'superstar' of golf. If you had the chance to talk to Sneed that would be one thing about his collapse that would have played on his mind ever since, the massive difference in the financial rewards between winning and runner up, and it was there for the taking for him.

    • @nicholasschroeder3678
      @nicholasschroeder3678 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@eddiebrown687One thing, too, is that it wasn't just the 6 footers that were the problem. Poor shots forced him into having to can at least one of those putts. There really is no way around it: he choked. Stadler choked just as badly in 82--threw away a 6 shot lead with 7 to play (even 3 jabbed the 18th). Then he got really lucky when Dan Pohl bogied the 10th in the playoff. But a win is a win, and a loss is a loss: style doesn't count in golf.

    Fuzzy must've been the most under-the-radar Masters champion of all time.
    He's a first-time player, paired with Tom Watson (whose last two Masters were 1st-2nd), and meanwhile there's a guy behind him who spent all but the last couple of holes 4 strokes ahead of him. There wasn't much of a reason to even think about him. But next thing you know... there he is.
    Also, that recovery shot by Jack at #15 was INCREDIBLE. How is THAT not in the Jack highlight reel?

      Yes had he nailed that one it would have seen Watson eliminated and he and Zoeller off to the next hole to continue. This was a great tournament.

    So crazy they bring in Palmer to run the interview at the jacket ceremony. Hord Hardin leads off of course. Arnie to ed at the jacket ceremony...."ed I really sympathize with you.....I know how you feel...would you like to tell us about it?" ruthless. and they just keep piling on. Really feel for Ed. they put him in the middle of a little couch with Watson and Fuzzy on each side of him. Nowhere to go. then they give fuzzy his jacket while Ed sits there. Geez

    I really get the choking. It took me 4 tries before I finally broke par for 18: choked badly the 3 times before--triples on either 17 or 18. I think it's imposter syndrome. Part of you feels really uncomfortable with this new identity--I don't belong here. And then the subconscious goes to work to put things right. Nicklaus had enormous talent, but I think his biggest advantage was his self-belief. He got beat a lot, but he never choked a major.

    I'm not sorry, but sudden death is the worst way to determine a major championship. The only fair way is to play the full 18 holes. At least the other majors don't make it come down to one hole.

    Fuzzy and tom Watson both choked on 18 in regulation. Fuzzy whiffed on his approach more than you can possibly whiff, and Tom Watson blew his drive into the trees and got very lucky to be clear. Ed Sneed arguably choked less, just couldn't overrun fate. The universe demanded he lose.
