2023 Big Bear Trail Ride | We almost had it 😭| 45 miles from the finish and the bikes say NO!

Well folks, year 4 and we still can't get a plaque to save our damn lives. This year, we had the big bear trail ride in the BAG! But a few mechanical issues took us out at the 11th hour (10th actually, but who's counting).
First, Kjeld was sick as a dog for the ride, which meant we were slower than we'd have liked for the first half of the day. But we persevered, and by mile 80 or so we were finding our rhythm. Then Jon broke a throttle cable right at the base of Malcom Smith. 45 minutes of tinkering later we had the bike running and were back on the trail, now later than ever. For the afternoon, we hustled for all we were worth! We were through most of the really hard stuff (only 38 special and some fire road left to conquer) when Kjeld got a flat on the rear tire. A nasty gash left the tire basically useless (though the Tubliss still held the bead, the tire wouldn't hold up at speed or corner for anything).
With just a couple hours left on the shot clock, we finally threw in the towel and limped back to the trucks. Mad, tired, angry, exhausted, and dirty as hell. We had this one, until the bikes said no!

Better luck next year. Seriously one of my favorite rides every year. I think it’s awesome to ride with friends on this ride but I believe it decreases the chance of finishing.

Maybe but it definitely increases the fun factor. We’ve run 5 guys the last three years and fortunately have all gotten plaques. Gives us great stories to tell.

I was told their are 2 versions for the Big Bear ride,, an easier and a harder route.. I am hoping this is the harder route.
