- Shiny Pokemon... in a world with NO color. Now, how does that work..?
This challenge, everything is black and white. I only get ONE chance to find the shiny. My screen is completely colorless - and my goal is to successfully pick out every shiny Pokemon I can in the world of Pokemon Legends Arceus. And if I'm wrong... the shiny Pokemon dies.

This colorless challenge was potentially my favorite I've done so far in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Playing in black and white and shiny hunting was so much more challenging and rewarding than I thought, I honestly would recommend it to everyone. Also massive respect to all the colorblind shiny hunters... except I'm starting to think you guys might be having even more fun with the game than me LOL

Congrats dude i remeber when i round you at 5k
as an artist who's struggling to learn values in color theory, i would like to thank you, this video taught me that saturated colors are darker then desaturated colors. you may now mark this video as educational content :) (also this was very entertaining, i hope to see you in my recommended again!)

Same, but I did get 2 Gyarados back to back. That surprised me quite a bit.
I got two shiny carnivine in the first spawns in an outbreak.

Huh, this is a VERY interesting idea! I wonder if you can modify a GB, GBA, or DS Pokemon game to disable the shiny animation to try this challenge in a nuzlocke setting...

In the switch settings there is a option to turn it invert or black and white
Lol it’s funny because normally Garchomp isn’t as noticeable. But with no color, I could tell the difference.
Guess you should shiny hunt garchomp in black and white from now on

I can for some reason because my trick is is the body red or orange? if red it's normal if orange it's shiny
I can’t see most colors, so it’s interesting to see what looking for shinies like this is like for someone else.

Something I only found out recently, is when you’re targeting a Pokémon, if you press A, it’ll swap which Pokémon you’re targeting.
That Silcoon eye color difference was great. Glad you spotted it. Cuz that's a great shiny
I love how silcoon just becomes a little pumpkin in the shiny
This is so interesting! When you turn on black and white, what you're seeing is the Values of the colours, so in theory, a pink and blue colour could look the same if it's values match. That's what you saw on the Bunery, the brown and pink colour have matching values
That Carnivine luck reminds me of the time I tried to breed for shiny Dratini in gen 2 and as soon as I frustratedly said "I just want a freaking shiny!" I encountered full odds shiny Drowzee.
Something similar happened to me with Legends Arceus, I was hunting a Pichu for my Pokedex and said to myself there's a shiny in this map somewhere and about 1 minute later found a shiny Kricketot

The madchad's back at it again! This honestly seems like a hella interesting challenge, because it really relies on your own color knowledge to accurately check just WHAT shade of gray corresponds to the sparkly friend...truly amazing.

(Also, if anyone wants to try this, in the ‘System’ settings on the switch you can go to ‘Change Display Colors’ and switch it to Grayscale)

I have never seen a double shiny like those rhyhorn before. I had a headache today and seeing that made my stress levels shoot up and it made my headache worse but it was definitely worth it.
Now do this in pokemon scarlet and Violet where you don't have shiny sounds and just have to be questioning everything, I feel it would be very funny

Fun fact about Turtwig being darker (other than the tone Generally being more saturated so darker) blue is the darkest in the hues when black and white, so it would be darker if they were same saturation

This is a really cool idea! I really enjoyed seeing the challenge of mentally translating the colors and saturation into black and white to imagine what the differences would be. Its a great idea to check with the other Pokémon in the area but its so hard to tell when there's nothing to compare it to.

I'd love to see you try this for Scarlet/Violet, especially since it doesn't have the shiny sparkles
500 hours in and I'm still not bored with Legends Arceus. Going for a perfect dex, a living alpha dex, and after spending so long going for alphas I have over half of the dex in shinies, I'm going for a living shiny dex on the side, too. Just too much fun!

If you are interested in doing this, the switch has a setting to turn the colors black and white or to invert them (warning: invertet colors are funny but can hurt your eyes after a while 🤣)

I was playing LA while watching, and as soon as you got your shiny Gastly in the video, I thought, “I haven’t gotten a shiny from the Gengar line at all in this game; why don’t I check out this nearby Gastly outbreak?” and THERE WAS A SHINY HAUNTER, NO JOKE. You should do this challenge again, but go around blindfolded listening for the chime. The sparkles give it away and this would be so much harder without seeing the sparkle.

The early gen shinies (gen 1-3) are often best on pokemon a few highly contrasting colours.
Like Silcoon's eyes and Quilfish' split colouration.
In the 20 years of playing Pokemon I have never caught or seen a shiny (not counting the ones the game gives you per story). I have the shiny charm in a few games as well and nope... Nothing. I just think I'm cursed
