  • Parsnips seeds can take a month to germinate outdoors! Germinating seed on wet tissue indoors might give us a head start. Let's give it a shot and see what we get. Update just posted www.youtube.co.... This is a FREE subscription channel.

    My NEW method of growing parsnips! 1st year was a mess, weeds overgrew the slow to germinate seeds. Still got a some but this method will greatly improve my crop. I germinate a lot of other seeds and this idea will help. Thanks SO much!

    I've often struggled to get parsnips to germinate - even in a thermostatically controlled propagator in peat pots - so this year I watched your video and germinated them in a damp peat pot without compost. Virtually all of them germinated in about 10 days and I now have a very healthy looking crop in the garden! Thank you HGV!

      Hello Keith. If you can see the seeds you can make a judgement as to whether they need a little water or not. When they are out of site you could be letting them dry out or over watering them. Glad its worked for you, good luck with your parsnips. HGV

    Parsnips are well known for being hard to germinate. Ive heard that soaking them first in a solution of cinnamon helps as well as chitting as in this excellent video. I use little white stones as markers also. Great video

      mark desrochers Hello mark. The first thing that comes from the any seed is usually the root chasing moisture. Once you see that, (however small) the seed has germinated and can be planted out. All it needs is to sit on damp compost or soil and be lightly covered with more damp compost or soil. Be careful when you water not to wash the seed out but don't let it go dry. You should be able to germinate the seeds in about 2 weeks indoors on wet tissue. Then your looking at several months for the parsnips to grow. Hope this helps and good luck.

      Hello flanmary. It's worth remembering that Parsnips can take several weeks to germinate then take a long time to grow once planted out usually growing into Autumn / Winter. That's not to say you can't take a few early to BBQ. HGV

    Hi used your recommendations two years back for parsnips and they were really successful so thank you very much indeed for that. Did the same thing last year but for various reasons although they germinated wonderfully, I didn’t get them into the ground so ended up with nothing. Am better organised this year and will be ready to go very soon indeed. My question is having watched the video again when did you actually put the germinated seed into the ground? I’m just worried about frosts killing off the germinated seed before they have a chance to do what they need to.I appreciate that you’re in the north-east and I’m in Buckinghamshire so there will be a climate difference between the two of us. I see in the video that your soil is fairly dry there so am I safe in guessing that you were putting these out in early to mid spring? Thanks in advance. Best regards fantastic videos as always.

    • @HomeGrownVeg
      @HomeGrownVeg  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello Robert. I am in the north west between the Irish sea and the lake district. Frost would indeed probably do for your seedlings. I would air on the side of caution. Getting them out too early could be terminal, getting them out a bit late would not. If you have enough you may want to go with some now and some later edging your bets. One trick I like to use if a night frost is forecast is to upturn plant pots / buckets over the planted seedlings with a brick on top so they don't blow off then take them off when the frost has gone. Jim.

      vincent neale
      Hello Vincent. When the seed germinates the first thing that shows looks like a tail, that's the
      root. The two seed leaves form next inside the seed before bursting out. The
      dormant seed is now a living thing and quite delicate. Take care when you plant
      it out, keep it wet until it gets going and you're up and running. Good luck.

    Find True Peace In Jesus Christ
    What does it take to be Saved?
    Faith in Christ’s Finished Work on the Cross
    The Cost of Sin
    Romans 6:23
    For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    HELL IS A REAL LOCATION
    Luke 12:4-5
    And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
    But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
    Matthew 25:51
    And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
    Are we all Sinners in NEED of a Saviour?
    Romans 3:10-12
    As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
    There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
    They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
    Romans 3:23-26
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
    Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
    To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
    What specifically to Believe in!!
    1 Timothy 2:4-6
    Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
    For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
    Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
    1 Corinthians 15:1-4
    Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
    By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
    And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he rose again according to the scriptures so you can be free from Hell and Death. This is the greatest gift God gave us. By having faith in the Gospel you are sealed with the Holy Spirit forever and SAVED from that moment to eternity.
    Galatians 1:11-12
    11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
    12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
    Heaven or Hell?
    It’s Your Choice
    A PRAYER FOR SALVATION THROUGH FAITH
    “I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that Christ died for my sins and rose three days later from the grave. Thank you for forgiving my sin on the cross. You alone Jesus is now why I have forgiveness and eternal life. Thank you in Jesus name. Amen.”
    If you have prayed this with faith (Wholeheartedly) you are Forgiven and now in the Body of Christ.
    Welcome brother or sister. Remember saying a prayer does not save you, having Faith does in Jesus and what He did for you.
    What if I continue to Sin?
    What if I stop having Faith?
    What if 5 years after being saved I have an affair?
    What if I aborted my child 1 year after I was saved?
    What about suicide?
    When you first had faith in Christ you were sealed and secured from that day forward, no matter what you do or don’t do our saviour has saved your soul and made you a new creation. Remember it Gods Work that saved you not Yours.
    Eternal Security ( 100% Going to Heaven)
    Ephesians 2:8-9
    For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
    Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    Titus 3:5
    Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
    Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
    That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
    God Bless You
