After not uploading for a month did you really think a tour video was the right thing to upload. Honestly the only worse thing you could have uploaded after not uploading for a month would be a gear video. I feel like it's common sense to release a adventure or journey you went on after being absent for so long.
The live tracking is a cool feature.
Love you guys, stay safe out there, many things you take for granted a novice would consider dangerous. You’re living a great lifestyle and a great adventure ,
I never thought I would like an aluminum boat, but you've convinced me. No through hulls, no screw holes so the possibility of leaks is minimized. Keep the good stuff coming.
The 2 of you are real Explorers, doing what most people would never do.
Or 'could' ever do.
Back…many years ago, when we used to sail over to France, we were always impressed by their aluminium boats. Just bare metal, so simple, so workmanlike. And it gives a somewhat non slip surface.
I wait for your videos because they are the best on u tube
Good morning from New Zealand
Great to see some innovative ideas on board to make live easier without being to complex or posh.
Love it
Cheers Bro
Great seeing you again wonderful catchment system blessings to you and yours from Southern Oregon
Thank you for sharing your life’s adventures.
Lovely video, as always! Wish you a great and safe passage!
Thanks for the video, very interesting. I like the water gathering system 🙂
Thank you for the live tracking. I've been wondering where you were and how you are doing. For its size, you have an amazing arctic expedition vessel. You have put an enormous amount of knowledgeable work into making it so. You once mentioned that after all of the work you put into it in California that it had an estimated worth of around a quarter million dollars. But with everything you have done since then to make it still better for arctic expeditions, once in the middle of the Northwest Passage it is priceless. If I were a US Coast Guardsman who was concerned about a couple attempting the Northwest Passage in a small sailboat, just one good glance around Lumi would make me smile.
Hope you are both very happy and enjoying your current challenge. Praying for you both to be safe, healthy, and mindful.
You picked a great boat. It has so many cool features and I've been waiting for a detailed tour. So many of the biggest sailing channels have alienated their viewers with million dollar brand new catamarans but you've got one of the neatest boats of them all at a moderate cost. I'm especially curious to know what the headroom is inside down below. I like your style. 🧜
Wow - impressive. My you both be well and happy . , With Loving Kindness, Horst-peter
What a great adventure! I am looking forward to the next installment.😊
Wonderful explanation, especially for us non sailors. My mate is sailing in the pacific, and as we are both ham radio op,s , we can keep in touch..
Good luck to you both. Brian in nz.
Your video’s are well put together. I really enjoyed this one. Thank you
I wish you a safe passage
I will be following your journey with interest. Stay safe and be well.
Best of luck on your journey ❤
Thanks for sharing. 😊
Here you see snow, and beneath this snow you will see more snow. :)
Moikka. Hienoa nähdä miten pitkällä olette jo. Toivottavasti ei tule kauheasti ongelmia vastaan. Hi, It's nice to see how far You are allready. I hope You don't have any problems on Your way.
Love the idea of a bare aluminum deck. I’m going to seriously consider this on my own boat.
Great innovation 🎉
A great tour and update Juho - Thanks for sharing!
Hi! Thankyou for the tracking link! This will be my daily morning routine to follow you on your passage. Olette todella oikeita merenkulkijoita joilla on asenne kohdallaan.
I LOVE this sailboat
Iqaluit would be a nice stop also.
😮wow amazing adventure
Truly magnificent, love your Instagram page. Safe passage to you both!
Thanks!
A great little explorer cold water sailing vessel.
Love u Guys. Keep living the dream.😍
You are in Greenland. You can touch and then do the NWP back the other way, if you hurry.
You have time for a beer and a bath, get more food, and a knap. It has been fun watching your slow moving dot move across the north west passage.
Good luck with your current adventure. It's wonderful being able to follow you in real time. Fantastic
Great 👍❤
Nice episode. Safe Travels.
Epic adventure!
Good video. Thanks.
Stay safe.
I'm just hanging out, between uni semesters, waiting for your tales of the northwest passage. As I post this, you're sitting off abandoned Fort Ross, and I'm watching from the other side of the world. Make it home safe explorers. Godspeed.
Fantastic adventure. Thanks for the boat tour. She is really special❤👍
Super 😊😊
Bare alloy for the _WIN!_
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Be safe and warm friends.
Hyvää matkaa,
Muista varmuuskopioida kovalevyt! Ei käy niin kun sillon Lumin fiksaus videoille.
Good luck with your passage!! Wishing you guys the very best wind, current and weather!
You can get Alodine sticks to stop corrosion under repainted spots.
Wishing you safe sailing! I've been watching videos to prepare for a sailing yacht in a few years. One scene that impressed me was purifying clean snow into water in Alaska, as it's something I'd love to try during my future yacht trips.
Some great kit.
Good to see you again! Love your boat, I’m not a sailor but I really want to give it a try soon. Thanks for the inspiration!
Rain catcher is perfect.⛷❄💧
Following your passage closely, and wishing you all safety + success!
I was checking in to see your progress on North East passage trip. I see your a lot closer to Greenland 🇬🇱. Maybe another 2 days. I hope the seas are smooth and wind at your back
Yall are taking the Northwest passage track now. I’m tracking you on a couple of FB offshore sites. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Your additions seem like wise and useful additions. Be brave tempered with the wisdom of safety.
Is the PVC fabric that is used for your water collector free of all the harmful chemicals that can leach into the water?
Thank you
As you go east you will enter Canadian waters. Welcome to Canada! I hope you can place flags of Finland and Canada on the islands.
Might be a good idea to put a handle on the tiller for some Isolation.
@@kkys7709 it's only for emergency use, say if a steering cable breaks, so I imagine their heavy rubber deck gloves should provide enough insulation
Glad to hear you say “cotter pins” and not split-pins when talking about the turn buckles.
Always great videos, no matter what the format. Save passage to you all.
It’s not pretty I’ll give you that, but it’s perfect yacht for what you want to do. Now I can see why you were so keen to get it. 👍
👍
Thanks for the video.
Hienoja ideoita ja niiden toteutuksia!👍
Aug 5, 2024. Appears that you are about 30-40% of the way Northbound, then eastbound through the Northwest Passage.
That far north how effective are solar panels?
In summer, they will have low angle sun, but very very long days
They've done it. Tracker says they are in Greenland
This water filter is very interesting, I'm no sailor but I had no idea you can filter rainwater with such a small device
4:12 I think I'd prefer a clevis pin with a quick insert / quick removal hair pin to keep it from slipping out. No nuts to rattle loose. You're making me wish that I had a boat again...
A "sensitive" question.....
How do you and Sophie have a contingency for bears etc ?..
Only asking as we're planning a similar voyage and some bears are predators more than others. Fantastic great channel you have too. Best wishes and fair winds for you both 😊
I like the rear lifting dagger board, it gives the rudder some protection like a skeg 👍
Safe trip
Epic as 7sual
Emergency Tiller - Did you ever do an emergency tiller drill?
These are always interesting. Try on a calm warm day, and then on a cold rough day. Try not to drop the tiller overboard. The tiller should be tethered to the boat during emergency installation. Could your tiller be tethered while stored, and untethered after installation. Do you have an extra nut and bolt? Extra hardware might be able to be put in the end of the handle.
Aligning the tiller to accept the bolt is very difficult in rough seas. Without a clip or latch or something it is a 2-3 hand job to hold the tiller aligned to thread the bolt and then put the nut on. I think emergency tillers should just snap on, and then be locked in with a bolt and a auto spring button, and then a bolt.
A great emergency tiller should be able to be installed by a one armed injured woman, or child, and not fall into the water. No one makes on of these or has ever complained about not having one.
Is the tiller long enough for a woman to use?
You could be washed over trying to install the emergency tiller.
The problem with poor emergency tiller setups is few people have reported them. Boats are just found with broken steering.
More Sohvi, please. 😊
Thank you for this technical tour, it's super interesting! We will consider a similar system to catch rainwater on our boat. Have you made yours by yourself or have you bought it? If you bought it, can you link the product website? Thanks!
figure for passage through Nunavut by the middle of next month.....the passage should go well, by the sea ice forecast.
Resoluution on tulossa sinnepäin... Varatkaa saunavuoro 😂 Hulppee laiva 😳👍 !
No joo... löysitte paremman saunan 👍 mutta missä oli kiuaskivet 🤔 toimii näköjään ilmankin 😅😶🌫️👍
I see you stopped at Pond Inlet. You do not have any youtube. I hope everything is good. Where did you shoot the moose? If in Canada did you get a moose tag?
What is the Pond Inlet stop for, a beer and a bath?
Is next stop Clyde River, or that place no one can spell, or Greenland?
I want to know where you got those bags!
I've never seen a daggerboard that close to the rudder before. Does having it down decrease rudder effectiveness?
This aft daggerboard gives excellent downwind dynamic stability, the more you raise the central daggerboard. The rudder on the Nouani ( or Passoa) design is not very effective for manoeuvering.
Juho
its a Royal Huisman Sloop
80ft long 20ft beam
13' draft
being auctioned.
Check it out ,, I was thinking you might know someone with 150k ish
kicking around and some time to finish the interior Teac and cabintop insulation.
I guess the current owner is dumping it at this auction starting Sept 2nd
its name was the Black Shark of St Peter
and the auction is in Zandaam Netherlands. 🇳🇱
Its an AWESOME vessel by the looks of it.
Will you ever go to the cariibean in the boat
👍👍
Aviators use Alumiprep to prepare aluminum for paint. You’ll see it bonds with the corrosion layer of aluminum and gives the paint something to grab hold of.
Please keep up making these videos. Very inspiring for my everyday life.
Indeed, or a similar chromate conversion product from Henckel called Bonderite
There's gold all over up yhere just laying around. Metal detectors a must.
You are doing a fantastic thing. I truly hope you make it. And your belief of man made warming comes true. But absolute best wishes to the passage. You are a champion. And yes, Sofi is more valuable than you.
👍🏴
Will that Bimini hold large amount of water while waiting for filter without collapsing?
With that much vertical drop a decent sized filter like that should be able to keep up. It wouldn't need to be super fine.
I understand the need for precipitation catchment on your trip north. PVC is carcinogenic though. Nasty stuff. We just got back from a few days kayaking in PWS and we gather water from the mountain streams and run it through a Lifestraw filter that connects to a water bottle or a bag that can be used to force water through the filter. Can't do that everywhere, I know.
Safe travels.
That's not correct. VInyl Chloride is carcenogenic. "PVC is not a known or suspected carcinogen". That's straight from the horses mouth of the Official website of the United States government -- Cancer dot gov.
"Vinyl chloride is a colorless gas that burns easily. It does not occur naturally and must be produced industrially for its commercial uses. Vinyl chloride is used primarily to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a hard plastic resin used to make a variety of plastic products, including pipes, wire and cable coatings, and packaging materials. (PVC is not a known or suspected carcinogen.)
Vinyl chloride is also produced as a combustion product in tobacco smoke."
It's workers in the factories that are at risk.
Does that inline water filter even freeze? I’ve busted a lifestraw before when it froze.
You will be in Canadian waters till you get to Greenland. Must be reassuring to know that the Canadian Coast Guard has a few icebreakers along the route to help out if need be.
Any danger from freezing with the water filter on your bimini water collector? Some filters with micropores are damaged when frozen.
What problems specifically are you having with your Starlink Dishy? I recently bought a Gen 2, and mine sometimes takes extra long to calculate orientation... Not sure if that is the Dishy or software tho...
bro ur boat is in the drinking water - cleaner than this sea water you have there is nothing in this planet.
I take back what I said about your initial investment. That boat is pretty cool.
Nobody else seems bothered by that tiller bolt, but to me, that little devil looks like it is just waiting to leap into the ocean when you are in the middle of a gale and trying to ship the tiller in a hurry. Can you get a ring bolt or something that you can secure with a line?
