Vintage-style AMT packaging This modified 1978 Kenworth semi-truck raced at the 1988 Bonneville Salt Flats. Its 1300 horsepower twin-turbo diesel engine allowed it to reach a speed of 151 mph (243 km/h). This was one of several specialty trucks created by Tyrone Malone. Missing from this museum display is the large rear wing that provided downforce to the rear wheels
Tyrone Malone named his new truck the the "Bandag Bandit" after the world famous Cold Process Retread Tires he uses which have won international records with his truck.
Tyrone Malone was one heck of a self-promoting machine and a guy who made his living in some interesting ways. The former trucker is most famous for his fleet of hot rod big rigs that he ran under the sponsor flag of Bandag, the tire recapping industry leader. The most powerful and cool of his rigs was the Super Boss which was a big Kenworth tractor that had a really wicked up Detroit Diesel under the hood. He appeared at drag strips across the country to do burnouts, spin donuts, and make quarter mile exhibition runs. Prior to those days, he actually had an even weirder way to make a buck. How? With a giant reefer trailer and a dead whale the guy traversed the country charging 50 cents a head to walk through the trailer and see Little Irvy the whale. That act actually lasted into the 1990s!Anyway, this video is a promotional film for Bandag but rather than just bore you to death about recapped tires, this is a film full of good Superboss footage showing the truck ripping tires and making all kind of good noise along with some footage of the Super Boss going down the track. Many of you probably remember Tyrone Malone and many of you have likely never heard of him. He was an old school promoter/showman that did his best to put on a good show and keep people entertained.
Kenworth is an American manufacturer of medium and heavy-duty Class 8 trucks with offices based in Kirkland, Washington, a suburb of Seattle. It is a subsidiary of Paccar.
Kenworth was founded in Seattle, Washington in 1912 by brothers George T. and Louis Gerlinger, Jr. as a car and truck dealership known as Gerlinger Motor Car Works. In 1914, they decided to build their own truck with a more powerful inline six-cylinder engine, the first put into a commercial truck. The Gersix, as it was known when introduced in 1915, was framed in structural steel, which along with its power, made the truck ideal for logging[2] in the rugged Northwest.[3] In 1916 the company moved to Tacoma, Washington, where Seattle businessman Edgar K. Worthington was managing his mother's commercial building. He became intrigued by the Gerlinger company, which was doing quite well, or so it seemed, as the Gersix became a popular fixture in the Northwest.[4] In 1917 Worthington and his business partner Captain Frederick Kent bought the business, renaming it the Gersix Motor Co.[4]In 1919 Kent retired from the business, and his son Harry Kent became Worthington's new partner.[4] In 1922, Gersix made 53 trucks at its factory on Fairview Avenue at Valley Street. Under the new name, the company moved to 506 Mercer Street and later to 1263 Mercer Street. Trucks and motor coaches were assembled in individual bays rather than on a conventional assembly line.[5] In 1923 Kent and Worthington reincorporated the business as the Kenworth Motor Truck Company, a combination of the names "Ken" and "Worth". In 1926 they started making buses, and in 1933 Kenworth was the first American company to offer diesel engines as standard in their trucks.[4] In 1945 Kenworth was bought by The Pacific Car and Foundry Company. The 1970s television series "Movin On" featured a Kenworth tractor, as did “BJ and the Bear”. In the 1989 James Bond movie Licence to Kill, Bond drives a Kenworth W900B semi-truck as he duels drug dealer Franz Sanchez.
On 5 December 2006, Bridgestone Americas and Bandag Inc. announced a merger agreement whereby Bridgestone would acquire Muscatine, Iowa-based Bandag, Inc., a leading truck tyre re-treader that was founded in 1957 and had over 900 franchised dealers worldwide at the time. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
My Grandpa's business was the one that worked on the engine. It is awesome that the Delaney & Ahlf decal is included
Really impressive build, Chris. Leaving the.body black -- kudos to AMT for nonswirl marks -- I was kind of surprised that you didn't try tinting the clear with blue, as you said about the real truck's finish. That would have looked so cool next to the light blue chassis, a sort of midnight blue effect.
cheers!
Can't wait to get all 4 sets !! Watched my dad build these as a child, even watched the trucks in exhibition back in the day
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Great build, I love your enthusiasm for the older kits.

As a modeler since 1972, I feel the model companies have figured out that the old guys are their target.Hey,with the JR NASCAR kits and reissued trucks it is a great time to be in the hobby.
Unfortunately I have to agree with you. I'm 51 years old and grew up building models in my spare time. I still build them along with restoring their full size counterparts. These days, I can't even buy a kit locally, I have to either order online or drive 30 miles or more to spend at least $25 on normal car or truck kit. The problem seems to be cost and accessibility of kits and supplies, not to mention that many young people are more interested in having it now instead of days or weeks from now. Today however, my twin 4 year old grandsons were watching me "kit bash" 2 Revell GMC plow trucks into 1 truck with a long bed. They were very interested in the whole process so I loaded the boys into my real 77 GMC (the truck that I'm replicating with the 2 Revell models) and took them to the closest hobby shop. They each picked out a snap kit and we went back to the house. I have to say that it was probably the best money I've spent in the past few years. The boys might not remember it down the road but I had so much fun helping them put their models together! Of course when my daughter came by to get them after work they had to show her. She smiled and asked me when I was going to let them "rub cream" on their models. Rubbing cream is what she always called brush painting models when she was their age. I told her that it was up to her since I plan to keep them in the hobby. She said that she'd bring a tarp and a kit over next weekend because she doesn't have to work and misses building models with her old man! I didn't let her see it but I "got something in my eye", my wife saw it though lol! The old man misses building models with his baby girl too and now I get to do it with her baby boys!
I'm only 29, so I'm far from an old guy. Well, I hope anyway lol. I'm loving all of these older kits being reproduced. Modern cars, imports, and modern day rigs just don't do anything for me. I'll take the classics any day of the week.
@Adam Kowalski Haha, don’t give up hope on younger people building models. I’m 19 and I’ve been getting into it after building a kit of my 1980 F-150. The kit has a step side bed and my truck has a long bed, but I can’t complain much given how little of a selection there is in models nowadays. That first kit got me hooked, so I picked up the GMC plow truck kit as well as a KW W900 kit from Revell. I’m not really impressed with the tires or detail of the semi kit, but I’m making the best of it. The next one I get will be an AMT kit do to licensed tires and greater detail.
I had one of these back in my childhood.... Nice to bring they're bringing this one back!!
Unfortunately I never got the Transporter..
LOL I loved the [Enter Text Here]. Caught me off guard, made me giggle.
Must have forget to insert a caption.

@@hpiguy Love the builds. I have a question when using Rustoleum paints, should I be using a laquer or just regular spray paint? Thanks
Kit finish came out beautiful!
💘 the details in the transporter kit!!
Awesome Chris! Thank you as always buddy 👍👍
Thanks for stopping by the channel!
You rock all these builds! Thank You!
Thank you, and thanks for watching the video and leaving a nice comment! Much appreciated!
I love this build Chris! So much styrene! ! Very well done!!
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Wow, what a fabulous model, fantastic job on this one! I think the fact that you took it apart to fix the gap speaks volumes about your character as it looked pretty good to me just as it was and that must have been a fair bit of extra work and a bit risky too. I cant wait to see the Bandit loaded up on the Hideout as this will be a very impressive set when matched up. As always i am so impressed with your skill and workmanship, what a wonderful job on this difficult model, Id say you aced this kit, thanks so much for building it and sharing the build with us.
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
I picked up mine a couple of weeks ago. I haven't built it yet. Thanks for the tips and advise. I'll keep watching this episode to help me along as I start mine. Awesome Job Chris. I don't have the Hide out truck. But my friend gave me the Pa Pa truck. So I ordered the Decals for it. But I will have to paint the Truck Black to match the Custom drag truck.
I did this kit years ago. I had both the drag truck and the hauler. Nice to see you're doing the rereleased kit.😊👍👍
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
All the trucks were at my fathers car dealership Roseburg Oregon 1980. Boss Truck,Super Boss Truck ,Bandag Bandit the Cop car corvette the frozen baby whale the whole traveling show. Neat to see this.
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
A GORGEOUS build!! This brings back childhood memories of the one I attempted to build way back in my childhood!
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Wish I still had mine but sadly it's long gone.. I think Matchbox made a 1/64 model of this one hopefully I can find one in decent shape at a reasonable price someday...
Awesome. Love that you clear over plastic. I built my penzoil Indy car without paint last year and I kept getting the question of “ what color”. Nice build as usual.
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!

Wow, you knocked it out of the box and I gotta say, you build some of the most beautiful truck models I've seen, I love the fact you keep these models box stock something I've yet to master, I've had the opportunity to actually meet and watch Tyrone Malone race all these trucks, you built a beautiful truck sir.

Thanks for stopping by the channel!
I saw the white, original Super boss version of both these trucks at a World of Wheels car show in Kansas City Missouri in the mid eighties! Met Tyrone Malone and the dude that drove the carrier truck. Both guys were cool as hell

Great job on this build my friend!

Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
I had these as a kid and all four trucks came in white plastic. Like All the ATM models did.
That what was so great about the Revel models came molded in color.
I did my Bandit in Tester's Royal Blue. to me that looked right.
That is a nice build - thanks much.
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Yes at the end you ended up fixing the gap, but with or with out the gap it looked awesome! I follow other channels on modeling but relate to you more because you keep it real.
Thanks Mario! Thanks for stopping by the channel!
Very well done mate, she's a beast
Thanks Gary!
Very nice build
Thanks for stopping by the channel!
I got the white one, i was hoping you would do this. Now i have a guid to go by with that. Thank you. Super nice!! I love it
The white truck is "Super Boss". The matching transporter is called "Papa Truck" and is also available. I built both a year or so ago and they're great kits for experienced modelers. I also saw both Super Boss and Bandag Bandit match racing in the 70s and early 80s. Tyrone Malone always put on a good show!
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Great build Chris
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
I'll be anxious to see your build on the transporter for this too!!
Loving your channel, bud. Stuck at home quarantined, and your vids are helping me pass the time peacefully. Making me wana order a couple kits.
Pull the trigger, models pass a lot of time and small places like ModelRoundup need our support!
Nice work. I just got this kit.
Thanks for watching and taking part in the fun!
Another good build bro
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Bandag is still around today. They retread tires for heavy duty trucks. I actually built the "sisters" to Bandag Bandit and Hideout (Super Boss and Papa Truck) a year or so ago. They're great kits for experienced modelers. Now I'll have to buy these kits too! I saw them match racing a few times back in the 70s and 80s.
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Chris, that was an awesome build and review of the Bandag Bandit Racing Truck and Hideout Truck! I definitely plan on building the Super Boss, The Papa Truck and the two you just reviewed. Excellent!
Thanks John!
Cool thanks you help me on the turbos 🙂👍
The company I used to drive for back in the late 90s had a land speed record truck . I think it was called joint venture , that truck was badass .
Very nice build, looking forward to seeing the hauler build
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
One MEAN lookin Screamin Jimmy!!
Can’t wait until the review for the Hideout Truck.
Nice works!
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!

Looks so awesome bro......
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
The rear shell and the cab should be glued together. I messed with it for 2 days. Nice Build
I gotta get me one of those. Especially that engine, a 12 cylinder diesel makes everything better. Also, i must say, it looks pretty good.
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
I have to say with that gap, the rig is awesome looking! 🏆
Thanks for leaving a nice comment! I fixed the gap by the end of the video.
Very nice👌👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I just got this kit and it looks like you got super lucky with the flash, half of my sprues were covered in it😂😂
I just came across this video after watching a few videos of the AMT Super Boss model kit. I really like this truck! I am going to look for it now that I'm aware of it.
I work for Kenworth Sales Co of Utah, so of course I'm a bit biased, but I love all trucks. I'm looking forward to finding and buying this kit to build.
Thanks for watching the review and leaving a nice comment!
looks cool
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
No problem i watch everything you put up another inspiration 👍
Amazing job Chris followed you on Facebook
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Nice build! I love watching your channel as you build straight out of the box, which could entice new modelers into trying the hobby. Myself, I've been building for almost 50 years, mostly big rigs, and usually do a lot of scratch building and adding aftermarket parts. I usually airbrush clearcoat on the cabs but was wondering how you apply the Future polish? It seems like that would be an easier way to get the shine if I was doing a quick build. Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to your build of the hauler for this one.
It gets brushed on and left to dry. Thanks!
I've just started a Revell 1:32 Kenworth Aerodyne and am going to try your clear coat trick as I think the colour and mold is that good it would take it. Great video and tips as always Chris!
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Pretty.
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Hopefully you'll build the hideout truck and complete the set. 👍👍
That is the coolest truck ever. Tom Daniel missed out on that one. That motor begs to be in a hot rod or drag rod too.
Check out "Pissed Off Pete" on Jay Lenos Garage CZcams channel. A V-12 Detroit like this and 2 superchargers lol!
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Great Bandag Bandit re issue model build, this is Kenny from the Tyrone Malone facebook fan page i have a ton of Bandag Bandit and Hideout photos on my T/M fan page check it out. You will also find out on my fan page why AMT round 2 left out "Bandag Bandit" on the kit model box and on the decal sheet. Wow,awesome job on the Bandag Bandit.
Thanks and thanks for watching the channel!
KEEP ON " TRACK'N" nice video.... See you next time!
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Absolutely awesome job man! I don't know, I really like
the old-style kits. They're for the more experienced builder?
Thanks again dude, the videos you post are out-of-sight!
"There, how's that for showing my age?"
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Started the Bandag Bandit today Chris, I was going to just clear it like you did but the cab had some pretty good scratches in it, I sanded it down and ready for prime and paint, engines done and ready for paint, working the frame now, it is a little fiddley but going together ok, got to do a couple test spoons I'm either going to paint it Tamiya Metallic Black or Dark Mica Blue I'm leaning towards the Mica Blue because it looks like the photo has a Blueish look to it 😃
I guess on the real truck they mixed a bit of blue in the clear coat to get that look.
I have a Tamiya 1/14 RC semi in Mica Blue, it looks really nice.
Great job on the build chris, I can't wait to get both trucks to build for myself. When are you planning on doing the transporter truck? Can't wait to see you build it. Thanks again for all your great Model building. Your an inspiration to this old model maker. Have a great day.
No recent plans to do the transporter, hence the open box look in this review.
As always, thanks for watching and taking part in the channel!
When I was a kid and dreamed of being a gear jammer, I saw this kit and photos in magazines..and wanted a tractor with a Detroit V12 in it! Sad that the good ol' 2 stroke Detroits are gone. My 2015 Freightliner Cascadia has a Detroit DD15 in it.
I think CL Werners Freightliner Classic XL has a V12 in it.
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
I have the 'Super Boss' white red and blue one plus the truck to haul it on. Now I can gave both.
Looks like great kit and finished truck looks awesome. The hauler would be the one I would build. Ron
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
Love watching your builds I've learned a lot watching them. Just curious how you glue painted parts.
Thanks for stopping by the channel!
I use super glue to attach the parts on final assembly.
Nice
Thanks for leaving a nice comment!
I built these kits in the 70s malones shop was down the street from me it burned down years ago lucky the trucks werent in the shop at the time of the fire but they were outside it ,
Hello you always clear coted model with glass installed or do you cover them?
those look good my dad builds models he wants these kits too he gets his from model roundup too
Thanks for stopping by the channel!
Nice Job! - quick question with paint....I’ve been having problems with the paint chipping on the car body as I assemble it……wondering if Im not letting the paint cure long enough before handling? I usually spray the body and then wait 2 days after the clear coat…..should I be waiting longer or am I maybe not spray the primer, paint and clear coat properly
I've never had paint chip on a model unless I wanted it to. Sorry, no advice on that.
I’m doing the Hide Out rig now, but painting it white and into a Shelby car transporter. Wish the comment section here allows pictures
Hi John hive both trucks love your show do great models And hive fun do them lot that hive get it hobby lobby
