I saw the Sunday matinee yesterday . . . both "Beanie" and "Ramin" (covid) were out! Saw Julie Benko as 'Fanny' and Jeremiah James as 'Nick!' Both were fantastic and the audience (after first being disappointed with the notice in our programs about 'Fanny') embraced Julie from the moment the curtain went up! And the ovation after she sang, 'I'm the Greatest Star,' assured us she was going to be great . . . and the standing ovation at show's end, confirmed that fact. They were both absolutely fantastic. Can't believe how well prepared they were to "step-in" so quickly after the shows opening. Just great!

Just saw it live and LOVED it! Great show, great performances. Ramin as Nicky Arnstein was absolutely incredible! And Beanie was very funny as Fanny - the two of them have excellent chemistry together.

Many other critics agreed that Beanie’s vocals are undernourished, which is weird since someone close to the production told me the reason they didn’t bring over the London star, Sheridan Smith, is “She couldn’t sing the score.” (Sheridan also isn’t really a name in the States). So why bring in Beanie? Oh, well.
Someone who can sing the score is the original Fanny, Barbra Streisand, whose 80th birthday happened to be on Beanie’s opening night. Interestingly, it was Barbra who walked away with the reviews. While going so-so on Beanie, the critics all chose to take note of how legendary Babs’ Fanny was - and forever will be, thanks to the movie version

It's as close as you can get to a high school production. And with ticket prices what they are - not good enough.

So sad ,she though she nailed it but the critics had a much different opinion.
Lack luster seemed to be the general verdict.

Its a shame most people cannot even afford to see a show anymore including me i'd love to see this or Music Man but tickets start at 300$ and i can't swing that. Too bad

Maybe it took so long because since we saw almost all the iconic parts performed on Glee by Lea Michele, we didn't really need a revival. Since it is such a choppy book, was it brilliance of Ryan Murphy to present these numbers from the point of view of an obvious contender for that part. Hhhmmmm?

Beanie - not her fault at all. She has been miscast - simple as that. When I was there the audience wanted to love her, but the production style just didn't suit her. She had no chance of winning this one. There really needs to be an analysis of how this came about in the first place. It is terrible to put someone in this position, let alone someone with the obvious sensitivity and talent of Beanie, who is now being publicly humiliated. It would be a travesty if her career didn't survive something so obviously not of her doing. I can only imagine how she's feeling but if I were her I'd be mad not sad as I kick the director's arse.

A missed opportunity to fix the clunky, dated, one-note book to FUNNY GIRL. Even this stellar cast can't make up for a story where choppy events happen too quickly and obvious emotions evolve too slowly. Other problems: Beanie is IFFY GIRL -- she's a hit and miss singer-dancer-comedian. Ms. Lynch can't convincingly play period or a Lower East Side immigrant. Graceful Jared Grimes taps divinely -- but can barely project his character beyond the stage. I actually forgot he was in the story -- twice. Ramin is perfectly cast but his 2nd act number is stylistically incongruous with the rest of the show. All of a sudden it's as if he's in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. The sets look cheap. I saw some 16 Broadway shows this last visit and FUNNY GILR was the biggest disappointment. I'd stay home and watch the Streisand movie instead. And although FUNNY GIRL struggles -- it's a masterpiece compared to MR. SATURDAY NIGHT. Jason Robert Brown (music) and Amanda Green (lyrics) -- what were you two thinking?

Every photo shows us Dolly and NOT Fanny!!! Beanie is NOT a Ziegfeld girl, NOT in the least and how does Ramin keep up the acting with her as she has NO sex appeal? BAD CASTING of Fanny! I HOPE SHE IS RESTING IN HER GRAVE!!!

Kevin, you are right. I thought something was off in those photos and that is it she looks more matchmaker that stage personality.
Fanny Brice might note have looked like your typical Ziegfeld girl but she had great stage presence.
