At this time of year, lots of students find out whether they got into Oxbridge. Most of us will have been unsuccessful.

I'm Francis, a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at Oxford University. I previously did psychology degrees at Cambridge (Undergrad) and UCL (Master's). I upload videos every few weeks about psychology, university life and occasionally self-improvement.

Soo yeah I got rejected from social data science at Oxford
But this year I have applied to do clinical psychology there, WE GO AGAIN BOYS
I was rejected at Cambridge Uni for my undergrad (understandable as I didn't have the best grades). But fast forward 5 years later aggressively building up my CV and working my ass off, I got an offer for phd at Cambridge a few days ago :)
Rejection doesn't matter, instead, stay focused and get back to work. It might take a few years like me but you'll get there at the end and it'll be a lot worth it than getting in the first try.

I was rejected pre interview by Cambridge for medicine in December and it was honestly crushing. It’s February now and this video has captured perfectly what I’ve began to think about being rejected and the fact that it shouldn’t define our worth, our futures and the way that we treat ourselves. What uni did you end up going to?
I got rejected from imperial and an offer from Cambridge, imperial was my first choice and it hurt. It feels weird having both experiences but very grateful for the opportunities.
Got rejected from Oxford and thought there was nothing better, now I’ve gotten accepted to do a placement research year at Yale. Crazy how things work out

Same, messed up the entrance exam so bad
I didn't apply for Oxbridge and didn't ever plan on doing so. I haven't been trying to get into the top places for uni. I'm honestly just happy to even be at this stage. The fact that people even applied to Oxbridge makes me impressed. You are still smart. You are still looking set to have a good life. You still probably have quite a few offers from other top unis. You should be proud even if you get rejected, because you deserve to be

I was rejected from Oxford for medicine. My entire academic life working towards this point, all 9s pre-covid, 4A*s at A-level, multiple volunteering and work experience roles. Top decile Ucat and high above average Bmat. In the end I was like f*ck it, what more could they possibly want.
Crazy!! My story is exactly the same! Highest marks possible, extra curricular stuff galore… and then rejection! 😞
@@bethanpeters6373 Without wanting to devalue the achievements of those who did get in, I'm sure the majority were deserving, its a f*cking lottery. Don't feel like you've failed, they have in their duty as a uni. Funny story, I emailed the second college I got interviewed at, they replied saying they "acknowledge its difficult for those not shortlisted for interview". Then when I replied, worried that the fact that they didn't even seem to know I went to interview might have contributed to my rejection, they sent back that they had always said I had gotten an interview and that I was mistake. YOU CANT GASLIGHT OVER EMAIL M8!!!

@@harveypraz7962 Good lord no. If they are unprofessional and disorganised enough to misplace the existence of an interview, and then attempt to gaslight an applicant, I don't want to go.

When you’re a high school senior, getting into a prestigious university is what you set your sights on. But in reality, that has very little bearing on how well your future pans out.

Thank you so much for this video!!!!! I applied for the PBS course in Cambridge and even talked about CBT when having the interview lol. I was put into the winter pool and was rejected in the end. I was super sad because it seemed that Cambridge was so close to me yet I still lost the chance of getting in. However, this video literally helped me so much!!!! Damn, I also love what Alfred said in Batman!!!! A few minutes before watching this video I got the offer from St. Andrews and now I can finally get over Cambridge :) Love your video ❤️

i got an offer for Cambridge this year but due to mental health reasons i’ve realised i’m almost certainly not going to reach my offer - it sucks but it’s just something you have to deal with
and this video helped me come to terms with it

Coming from someone in his 50’s, a small piece of advice, things happen for a reason. Chin up. Re-focus and crack on. You’ll look back in 40years time and wonder what was all the fuss about?

It's like what 8000 undergrads accepted to oxbridge every year? out of so, so many, and tbh I'm massively impressed by the lot of them for even having the courage to try, and to get through a levels in one piece!

Hey Francis, I commented on one of your previous videos saying that I have applied to Cam but didn't have any chances of getting in. But about 2 months ago I got an offer. Just wanted to come here and let you know idk why. Sorry if this felt like bragging because this is a video about rejection, but trust me it's not, I had no hope or even dreams of getting it, I only applied because of my family insisted. So what I'm trying to say here is that for some reason I wanted to share this news with you and secondly, Oxbridge is not the big formidable monster that everyone thinks it is and regardless of whether you get in or not, your love and passion for what you want to do/study is primary and that's the thing that's going to ultimately take you places (sometimes where you least expected to be).

@@kittyk3949 I did not get in unfortunately. It was heartbreaking. However, I kept applying after the Oxford rejection and I got into ETH Zurich which is a fantastic university. Thanks for asking btw.

I am waiting for decisions from Kings, UCL, Bristol and Manchester. Got rejected from Imperial, which was disappointing and discouraging since it was the first decision i received back :(
