Abusing the hell out of the Wing Attack counter with Rain Bullet is fun and all, but after doing the Devil Beasts where I allowed the cheapness to shine, I wanted to revisit this guy and do it properly.
Obviously this is slower than the previous take and I'm still looping the boss but this time I allow it to be an actual threat and stick close.
This is also on a much lower level than last time, I loaded my Wingal & Presa file and played till this point without grinding so I don't have Splendor Critical/Fatal Opening unlocked yet (meaning the first fight to use it in the run is now Nachtigal, which is honestly a pretty good starting point).
Despite that lack of extra dps, the fight is still on the quicker side due to the water weakness and Rain Bullet being absolutely busted against monsters.
This time as I'm not tied to keeping my arte chains intact I had more freedom with movement, which is very welcome as Pterobro's hitbox loves to push you away from it when you knock it down..
The loop looks pretty simple and straightforward, well, it is, kinda.. I had to make sure Rain Bullet triggers the counter between Garyuu Gurenken's hits every time. If it's too early, before/as Garyuu Gurenken hits the 1st time, I won't have enough time to get above the Wing Attack hitbox.
Whilst if late and the 2nd hit connects cleanly I'll get a knockdown which is just bad lol.
This is also a hidden rng hell as Pterobro is very likely to trigger an insta counter after every Wing Attack.
Now, Pterobro can be a big pain despite being easily manipulable. Guarding forces out the Charge Attack (which you can run through at point blank range) and it starts with the Wing Attack as its only counter. Once it hits 50% HP the Charge Attack is added to the pool.
Thankfully the loop gets me above both of the hitboxes no matter which attack I roll!
It's KD timer is also moderately long, leaving me with just enough time to use Rain Bullet before needing to OTG.
I always OTG with Majinken as it's hard to keep track of the OTG limit here and 2 hits always guaranteed a break through penetrate.
Below 50%, Pterobronc gets access to a couple of new artes which make it twist it's body in annoying ways and with unfortunate timing even the artes with longest animations can entirely miss sometimes.. You can even see in this take how I barely managed to connect Majin Bakuenzan lol.
Additionally, you might have noticed I didn't go for Chase Bullet in the 2nd loop. That's because Pterobro is very prone to trigger an insta counter here so I used it as an opportunity to get out of the corner before hitting 50%.

That Terra Rupture was a bit tight there haha. Great jumps over the Wing Attack!

Every time you used Chase Bullet and hit Pterobronc's tail, I expected to hear the AC bonus sound, but I think that's just my PTSD from Siennabronc in X2 talking, lol.

That weak spot would be more than appreciated here in X1 as well lol

I know that I haven't commented much on your recent videos. But this was a good solo no damage fight. Well done Samu! 🤗
