  • Strawberries are some of the most irresistible berries out there, and many of us just can’t wait to eat them when we see them. You can dip them in chocolate, soak them in honey, or make them into a strawberry daiquiri or a strawberry banana smoothie.
They are quite pleasing to the eye, but a recent TikTok video by Buzzfeed reporter Krista Torres revealed that there is more to strawberries than meets the eye.
In the video, Torres soaked strawberries in a bowl filled with water and salt for 30 minutes. They may look like delectable, juicy fruits, but here is the gross reason why you should soak your strawberries in saltwater.

Guys. You shouldn't worry about eating bugs. It basically adds more protein to your diet.
Also the hydrochloric acid in your stomach kills them off because of its low PH of 1.5- 2. I used to be so disgusted with strawberry when I learnt this fact two years ago but I can't help not Like strawberries. I love strawberries so I've come to agree with this and still eat knowing it's normal. So just eat to your bliss, it's perfectly fine.

I wish i never knew about this.
One day i took a bite out of a slice of orange only to look down and discover that the rest of the slices had big white squirmy maggots in them. I pretty much instantly recoiled from shock and spat out as much orange as possible on the floor.
I haven’t eaten a single fruit since then. The thought of maggots just wriggling inside my apples or oranges is enough to make me completely lose my appetite to eat them whatsoever. I have eaten some berries, but after seeing a blueberry with mold all over (i have mycophobia) and removing a bug clinging to one of my strawberries i’ve decided to stick to fruit juice. At the very least there’s nothing alive in there.

Staring at a bowl of strawberries floating in salt water is not exactly exciting. That is, until some of those sweet berries reveal what's hiding under their ripe, red skin. It's a secret that has the Internet totally bugging out.
It all started with a TikTok video. The video showed tiny, white insects wiggling their way out of a few saltwater-soaked berries. Soon enough, the Strawberry Challenge went viral. People everywhere began to try and flush more creepy crawlers from their sweet hiding spots.
You can't believe everything you see online, of course. Plenty of people thought the claim could be a hoax. But the videos and the "Ewww's!" piled up. Finally, experts spoke up. They dished out the facts.
The bottom line: It's tough to totally avoid eating insects. They end up in all kinds of food. Even chocolate! Gross? Depends on your point of view. Bad for you? Not at all, experts say.
    Berry Bugs
The larvae of a species of fruit fly are the most commonly found critters in strawberries. That's because they're sneaky, experts say. The females make a teeny-tiny slit in strawberries and other fruits. Then, they quietly lay their eggs inside. The cut is really small. The bugs bury the eggs deep. That's why fruit pickers don't see them. And likely neither will you. That is, unless you drown them out after they've hatched.
Other types of insects may also end up in fruits and vegetables. But even these bugs won't hurt you. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sets safe levels of insects in food products in the United States. For instance, an average serving of peanut butter is allowed to have about 8 insect bits. A serving of pasta can have about 50. A standard-size chocolate bar can have up to 74! According to estimates, Americans unknowingly eat up to 2 pounds (1 kilogram) of insects every year.
    Disgusting or Delicious?
Eating bugs may sound yucky. But it's common in many places all over the world. Some people point out that eating insects could reduce future food shortages. It could also help the environment. Bugs make the soil stronger. And they create fewer heat-trapping greenhouse gases. They're also easily farmed and don't need much water.
Of course, that doesn't mean you should go out and chow down on some daddy longlegs in your backyard. But it does show that you shouldn't worry about an extra-protein surprise in your produce. Still creeped out by the critters that may be hiding out in your fruits and veggies? Don't listen to the viral videos. You don't need to soak berries in salt water. Experts say washing produce in plain water is enough. That is, unless you like salty strawberries!
