For those who don’t understand overstaying, it’s actually because without a valid visa, it’s actually illegal or highly unlikely to ever get a job or even to do most things that regular citizens can do like buy a car or rent a flat.
It’s also a drain on public resources as they could easily claim benefits or other things if they can slip by undetected in the system. So it’s actually a correct thing the uncle did since these ladies exploited a local and by right shouldn’t be in Singapore once the visa or permit expires.

Before renting out, do remember these mandatory checks, first check the validity and particulars on the original immigration pass and/or work pass. Secondly cross check the particulars on the pass against the particulars on the original passport. Thirdly, verify the validity of the pass by checking with the government immigration or manpower authorities. The homeowner can be charged for harbouring overstayers or illegal immigrants if investigation reveal that he has not exercised due diligence as required by law. If the homeowner is found guilty of recklessly, negligently, or knowingly harbouring overstayers and illegal immigrants, he may be sentenced to an imprisonment term, fine or both. Be vigilant and be aware of unfamiliar faces in your neighbourhood. Report suspected cases to immigration.
