Very little brings this kind of joy to a true Hillclimb Racing enthusiast 🙌
This things sound alone is worth the price of admission.
Yup built here in his backyard of New Zealand his home too
Yeah family, nz backyard hodge podge makebit work with what you have. and bam! You've made a freaking mad unique racecar.
yeyy my favorite racing channel
Great seeing Hillclimb Monsters supporting another creator. Love that channel 👍🙂
As an old man myself, great to see an old racer still hustling the machine. Toyota was really on point back then with this project and the GTP/IMSA weapons. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder who designed the "truck"? It's is so clever and trick! I'd be interested to know what it weighes. Probably more than I'm thinking, only because it's AWD. But soooo cool!
This race car is absolutely savage, man! Up there in my Top 5 poster cars of all time closely behind the Peugeot 406 T16! Your 308 reminds me of the same sort of insanity these things have and is the reason I'm following!
07:09 GOOD LORD! It's literally a formula car with a shell stuck on top!
@@OddBawZ Wow... always interesting when I see my youtube channel subscriptions cross... 🤨
Ahem. 405 T16. 🤓
Damn, didnt expect you here! Love your content
Weird seeing you here OddBawZ love the content man. I also make WT videos myself and am trying to hit 100K on this dead channel :)
This has always been one of my favorite race cars to the point that when I got it as a hot wheel when I was young I never opened it. It would be awesome if I'm able to get it signed during this PP.
Legendary go get that signed
Get it signed man!!
Did you get it signed!?
Kinda, I wasn't able to go but my sister in law was able to get it signed for me 😁 not as cool but I'm not complaining.
@@carlossol999 Well if you hang onto that someone will pay big money for it some day! Although I am sorry you didn't see the race in person.
The Tacoma is one of if not the coolest race cars of all time. Also it is insane how much more relaxed safety seemed to be even not so long ago. Ain’t much to that chassis and having to exit through the roof only is crazy.
yeah and when you look at the panels when he's getting in almost looks like cardboard lmfao
Rod Millen… The OG Drift King! Guy was amazing 20+ years ago, and is STILL amazing. Great little documentary you provided us. Thanks for sharing!
KT is the OG DK, no one else.
@@sepg5084 While Keiichi Tsuchiya (“KT”) may actually hold the name as Drift King (and is unquestionably one of the pioneers and greats of true drifting), I suspect Rod Millen was throwing cars sideways long before KT got behind the wheel of a car. Thus, my thoughts that he was actually one of the OG’s. ;)
Haha Rod's hat! Great video as always Mike!
I'm really enjoying your weekly episodes, no matter if it's build or "outside of the garage" related. So I would say do grab the opportunities which give you inspiration and relaxation. I can't imagine the majority of your subscribers not appreciating these videos. So thank you Mike for all the hard work you put in making these videos!
I'm so much looking forward to seeing this race in person.
I’m envious you get to go to pikes peak!
One of the Greatest things you will get to view, in a Lifetime!
Saw it in 2008.
These mini documentaries/visits/interviews are awesome!
Got a Hotwheels version of this. All I can say is, the pickup is so good! I love seeing it running fast, but only few videos shows it. Now that this video is posted, I am happy I can see the guy and his work again
If you told you didn't took that short trip to show more of that beast of a car, i'd go from brazil on foot to your door to give you a slap in your face.
Nice work, absolutely loved this episode!
My 96 Tacoma has identity issues too, some days it's a race-truck, some days it's a rock-crawler, and on occasion a heavy load hauler :O)
While I've never heard of this one - I'm not particularly well versed on PP history - it's absolutely awesome to see. That being said for me the dream car was always the Suzuki Escudo, thanks to Gran Turismo back in the day! Finally, I love this kind of content as a change from the build videos, so thanks as always for sharing.
Check out the footage of it going up the hill at Goodwood. 👍🏻
This thing smashed the Escudo, and it's in Gran Turismo aswell. 😎👍
I have lust after this Tacoma in HB many a time over the years. This truck is the reason I own my canyon tuned 04 Tacoma
Not only is Rod an amazing driver and engineer, he is also a downright nice guy. I have followed him since his early days rallying in his (and my) homeland, New Zealand, long before he moved to the USA.
Great Video! I was on Pikes Peak during all of Rod’s Races. In 2000 the turbo blew just after Glen Cove around 11,000 feet in elevation. The Tacoma Absolutely Screamed past us and went around a right corner to the straight away. Just then we all Gerald a loud BANG and then dead silence. I’m glad he’s back. Rod is King of the Dirt and King of Pikes Peak in my mind. Tracy Fisher - Lifetime Manitou Springs Resident
I love that Tacoma. happy to see it racing again, even for a short bit.
Another great experience and learning opportunity for you! I've learned I need to start making connections in the race scene.
By all means, keep on making this kind of content!! Thank you for sharing, Awesome!!!
That truck is COMPLETY NUTS!!! Way cool to see!
If awesome people like the Millen family are kind enough to let you come hang out, watch, and document anything high performance car related, then I will watch just as intently as your 308 build. I love seeing the inner workings of race cars, since it's great for inspiration on home builds.
The Celica PP car was a little before my time (mid 80's kid), but I remember this Tacoma. It's great to see that it's coming back out for 100th running.
Rod Millen is one of the original beasts on a track. He still has it. Bad to the bone.
Great episode Mike! Love the out of shop stuff as much the in shop. So cool that you got the opportunity to see this truck in person and share it with everyone. I rememeber when it came on the scene and was kinda controversial for being called a "truck". Keep up the good work!
Hell yeah, any time you get to see cool things at the track take it! There's a good possibility of learning new things and meeting new people that will only elevate the projects you're working on.
Rod Millen is a boss! Look at his downshift points at his age, touch early but better than most younger drivers!
Rod is the man. Those dirt shots show just how variable and bumpy the dirt surface was. Gruppe B was amazing but they weren't running 1000hp.
I could listen to those compressor surge noises ALL DAY. What a machine! 😍
you mean turbo.............................
Compressor surge is the noise that the turbo is making off throttle 👍🏻
I love this truck. Had it as a hot wheels car when I was a kid and now I gave it to my son who loves it!
Door on the roof. Shifter on the left. Lever on the right to adjust rear 3rd spring on the fly. No rev limiter. No anti-lag. No ABS. Locked rear diff. Locked center diff. 100% badass.
In a few weeks I’ll cheer him on at Devil’s Playground and shake his hand during the parade of champions.
One of my all time favorite cars. Such a blast from the past
Absolutely love your channel! Don’t ever change a thing!!!!! This is a very very special channel. Thank you!!
Awesome addition to the usual content! You do a fantastic job of these side mission videos. Truly proud to be a Kiwi with these dudes blasting up that hill 🇳🇿
Thanks for taking us along! It's variety like this that spices up your already awesome channel.
Good to see it's still alive after the Goodwood crash, this car is too legendary to die.
I loved this era of Pikes Peak. Millen vs Tajima. Toyota vs Suzuki. The Celica and the twin engined Cultus were the cars that did it for me, but the Tacoma beating the Escudo was just epic in its own right. 😎👍
I was at the race last weekend and man what an awesome thing to see this heading up the mountain in not the best weather day for the race. Never heard anything like it let alone seen anything like it. Just pure engineering at its finest! Great Video!
I was inspired by Rod and Rhys and all their Pikes Peak rides over the years! Maybe one day I can see the top of that hill on race day! (in GT7 I did the Celica livery, the Genesis livery, and this Taco.)
Man that’s such an awesome experience. I’ve always been blown away at the sheer balls it takes to run something like that up pikes peak. Absolutely insane. Definitely jealous you got to hang out with that crew. I’m sure you absorbed all kinds of interesting information. Great video!
Love it, thanks for cataloging this for us
I have seen this car on and off for near 20 yeas but never knew that it is actually a single seater with some Le Mans prototype under body and a sort of truck body on top, absolutely epic. I love all those Pikes Peak specials, there is a crazy Suzuki about and Peugeot has made some special cars for it even though they don't sell cars in the US.
This beast will always be the big daddy of Pikes Peak.
Love that you're documenting this stuff. Its motorsport royalty!
Great video, thanks for sharing it.
Great video! Rod is one of my all time favorites! What a guy! Thank you
yes, love seeing this type of content!
Beautiful content, love everything automotive. Keep bringing it all!
One of my favourite runs at good wood what a machine
Great vid, thanks for taking us along Mike!
thumbs up! Great vid, keep them coming, he is
a legend. Can't wait for pikes peak 2022, wish I could attend!
Love this style of video. Great work Mike.
That was great. Can't wait to see more of that unit.
Want to thank you for the extra content Mike! Always love what you put out even when it's not the Ferrari or Bimmer. This is a work of art in motion. Thank you for sharing this with us! How cool to spend the day with these two and this car...
That turbo sounds amazing
I'm not a ford guy but I like what I think is a raptor with a work bed on it. That's sick.
I loved using this truck on Grand Turismo!!
This was amazingly cool, Mike. Thanks for this treat.
Love everything you do on the channel bud. The field trips are great keep them coming please. Dieing to see more model A stuff to.
Remember seeing this thing go up the hill at FOS it was incredible!!!
Very cool,thanks.
Great to see the Millens out there, doing it.
Still one of my fav car..... cool to see it run.. cant wait...
Keep the no bs content coming I certainly enjoy it.
That scene transition at 3:25. Start at Goodwood and immediately on to Pikes Peak. Nice.
I loved this video! I really enjoy the technical content you put out. Keep it up and I can’t wait to see the 308 driving!!
Thank you for the content!!! All things Millen are dope!
Wow! Rod is a legend and should be studied by all race drivers. He had to make this vehicle a truck so he was able to take his steely big balls with him. I drove up the dirt Pikes road in the '80s a few months after I got my license and it was scary at normal speeds. Great video.
thanks for this video, i ABSOLUTELY love this truck, i remember falling in love with hillclimb because of this. i start a welding and fabrication college classes in the fall. hopefully i get to build at least one hill climb car in my life
Awesome opportunity, thanks for putting this up
Great vid.
Great episode 👍🏾
Up there with the best choo choo sututu noises I’ve ever heard, awesome car good luck Rod 👍
Wow, what an opportunity!! Thx!
This car is a work of art!
Rod best wishes, your are a true legend. Enjoy!
Thank You Mike
Thanks Mike!
Can't wait to see all the older legendary cars coming out to go up the mountain this year. Will be one not to miss!
What a treatl! Amazing
This, was AWESOME.
You seem to have the same love of GTP cars that I do, perhaps trying to add some content touching on the coolness of IMSA history and integrating it into modern builds. When I grew up the mythology of the uninhibited Can-Am cars was missed history, but then GTP came on the scene to create turbocharged aero monsters that has driven my love of cars and technology.
Incredible to see this run again! That 503e is incredible
Awesome. Wanna see more.
What a opportunity! Great episode!
Great vid with the very humble Kiwi genius!!
You have some really cool opportunities and it’s great that you film them to take us along in a way. Thanks for doing the damn thing!
Rod & Loeb would be an amazing racing game
This is nice to see older race cars definitely like the video maybe bit more in depth on build but super cool over all and the fact that it was on track made it worth while.
I remember being a teenager and getting up early to watch this beast race up Pikes Peak. Such a badass machine, thanks for the up close look!!
Fantastic vehicle and a big piece of Pikes Peak history.
What an iconic and amazing machine!
I love that rod is wearing a come and take it hat #supportthe2a
I Definitely would enjoy more of these features! 👍
Sick content
Hell yeah, always interesting to see other builds. Plus it's a chance for you to learn too, which hopefully translates to better builds!
I love this car, man!
Underrated channel fr
Wow that turbo though and I love to hear heal and toe down shifting, nothing quite like it
Saw this on Larry video. Sweet build fosho 👍🤙
I first learned about this thing in DiRT 3 I think, and it was awesome to drive there already. Really cool to see it in action.
