I think WotC is very fortunate to have you as such a great ambassador for the game.
Why are there only like 8 lhurgoyfs in the deck? I always wanted to do goyf tribal deck but there weren't many and I was excited for this when it was announced but disappointed with the lack of gofys.
Also, the lack of MSRP really hurt seeing all the decks at $70 and then rhe eldrazi at $120.
Honestly there just aren't many goyfs period. I remember looking on scryfall before the decks dropped and I found there were a total of 8 possible cards. With the new to M3C ones we might be up to a total of 11 but one of them is the tarmogoyf which you're making tokens of all the time.
Necrogoyf could've been in the precon tho.
Back when we had MSRP every lgs dutifully held to it and never charged a penny above.
Really enjoy these commander deck openings. Interesting to hear how the decks came to be, would love to see more of that. Keep up the great work
I like the commander openings :) Maybe to make them more interesting you can go into more details about the cards/reprint decisions/how the deck was decided/made or post on twitter asking for questions about the precons you can answer while opening? I personally dont mind really long videos for cool info like this so :)
Got the tricky terrain deck as my first ever commander deck, super fun to play but tricky to understand.
I think you might have picked up the strangest strategy out of all these decks, but it's good if you are enjoying it. It's probably the least straight forward deck out of these 4, but also probably the best put-together.
Hey Gavin, can we get the precon temporary deckboxes to be a little bit wider and longer so that sleeved decks aren't quite so squeezed by the box.
I personally really like these kind of videos. Hearing the design stories is always a blast! Keep up the amazing work Gavin! ❤
Oh, story time. Looking forward to it. Always nice to learn some cool stuff.
Would be nice if you guys just give us an MSRP for these precons. I can't afford the mark-up at all.
Hey Gavin, do you think we could get a new version of commanders anthology? Potentially with decks that explore planes that maybe couldn't fill a set but could give us a deck themed around them like xerex for example?
Like these unpacking of the commander decks. I'd like more info on the designprocess for the new cards. Especially the commanders 😊
Good Morning 👋
Morning!!
Magic! 🧙
@GoodMorningMagic Gavin, I have a question: It was intentional that the simic deck doesn't do anything without Omo, the commander? The deck is very interesting in concept, but it falls miserably apart when the people remove the commander, becouse the "everything" counters don't do anything without the commander in the battlefield, I think that for the creatures there is alternatives (Maskwood Nexus, Arcane Adaptation), but for lands that is the selling point in the deck there is nothing at all... I think that the last 2 pharagraphs in Omo card need to be "Reminder Text", no actual text in the card...
Yeah I like hearing some of the stories about precons even if you don't have all the info. More context is always nice!
As an aspiring game designer myself, it's really entertaining to hear your thoughts about what could have been.
good evening! 😂
Good evening Magic! 😆
@@GoodMorningMagic just got my eldrazi precon can't wait to upgrade it! thanks for the better landbase for this 5c precon! :3
@@Vina.Acecook :3
Step 1: Create an Eldrazi tribal deck
Step 2: Add a new eldrazi sired of both Kozilek and Ulamog (actually unironically cool)
Step 3: Don't add either of them to the deck (not very cool)
Step 4: Most valuable card is Morophon, who is famously not an Eldrazi
Step 5: No MSRP so it's $130 prerelease
I cry
Yeah, i love eldrazis, but buying this is falling in a scam
Love these vids talking about the design of the precons. How were the Commander's color identity chosen?
I have had an energy deck since partner commanders came out and I made a budget deck around it. These last 2 precons have been amazing for the deck. The energy deck that is actually energy focused is really fun, and actually good.
I played Tricky Terrains yesterday for the 1st time and it's very interesting, there is a lot of variety and choices. Also I got five 9/9 Ulvenwald Hydras on turn 7-ish to overrun infect deck which felt really nice
nice openings and stories.
Gavin, can you elaborate on the ongoing back and forth decision whether to exclude foils of regular (non face legend) commander deck cards in Collector boosters?
It seems some sets like New Capenna it is possible to open them, while most sets it isn't. Meanwhile MH3 has it even more confusing where Ripple foils are exclusive to the Premium decks but regular foils can't be found in Boosters
I was looking forward to picking up foil copies of Dragon Broodtyrant, Gluttonous Hellkite and Infested Thrinax, but the ripple foils don't match the traditional Jund aesthetics
This is exciting
I got the eldrazi one for $65 at my LGS, felt extremely lucky - and playing it has been soooo much fun so far! Definitely excited to upgrade a few things but overall worth it 100%
out of curiosity what was the decission to make commander precons instead of modern precons (or both)?
Because modern decks are so full of chase cards that the idea of a modern precon is just a silly joke
imagine a precon with fetches or shock, scalpers would grab them even before you could think of buying one
Just here to applaud the design of Tricky terrain. Easily the most interesting precon in years.
can you also open the collector's versions so we know how they differ from the normal version?
hey man I'm trying to build a kitchen table minotaur tribal deck and I think the tribe needs some love. the creature type has great potential but it doesn't have much backing so I was wondering if there is a chance of any new minotaur support cards being printed in the near future, thanks.
Had to sell a few cards to get the Eldrazi deck! Going to rewrite on the box to say "Thank you, Eldrazi Superfan!"
Sweet playmat Gavin :)
An Avatar, the Last Airbender & MTG beyond set has been on my mind lately.
Gonna wish upon a star later to see if I could make it happen. 💫🙏
i m pretty curious to knows why was there such a difference in quality and power between those decks
and why did the goyf deck as so few goif in it, and why was it missing the king in its decklist
@@gasupplissonthere are like 11 goyf in jund colors and outside of THE goyf it has all the good goyf....
Also you putting a lot of goyfs tokens with the commander, why even be angry because it doesn't have a simple goyf?
Are we ever going to get a 5C lands-matter commander? I would love that.
Will you ever do a video explaining tribal->kindred? I currently don’t know the reason.
Edit: also what determines if a spell is a kindred or not because I feel like eldrazi confluence would 1000% be so I am curious why it is not.
So when are we getting Copy Battle, huh? Get on it Gavin!
Changing it from 8 energy symbols to the number 8 is a thing I'd been asking for for quite a while. Putting more than 5 of a symbol on something makes it pretty annoying to count without a line break. The Romans figured that out, what, MMD years ago?
If only everything counters wouldn’t need Omo to stick. Then it would have been really fun deck, but now it really needs more protection for Omo.
Good morning Gavin! Always happy to hear your thoughts on the game design
Thanks for pausing to show off the Lore blurbs! Us vorthoses who can’t get all the decks appreciate it
Not going to lie, hearing you talk about cards in the jund deck makes me want to put cards back in that i took out for other good stuff jund cards.
8:00 AND WHERE IS TARMOGOYF!!!!!!
When is Pauper Horizons coming !!!
Love these videos keep them going
This kind of video is great. But please next time put some titans to the eldrazi precon😢
The precon hardly gets to 8 manas and you are.crying because they didn't include any of the 11 eldrazi bombs???...
Me laughing in new simic cards
@goodmorningmagic - Could you please provide us with an answer as to whether the card Encore Electromancer was a purposeful hidden card or a misprint in the recent Hatsune Miku Secret Lair? WotC customer service refuses to answer this question, and it's pretty important for the player base and collectors to know.
I prefer the commander opening videos to the box opening videos
I love playing my modern horizons non-modern legal commander cards on my arena client that does not have modern
The jund deck is missing all the cards the face commander needs out of the box. Disa need a lot of self mill and ways to discard which there is very little of. Then since there are very few goyfs it needs to have conspiracy and ashes of the fallen so you can trigger disa off creatures not already goyfs. This was my fav commander, least playable of the 4 out of the box.
They don't want precons to have everything they need right out of the box. Intentional gaps reward players for filling them.
@@PalPlays they try to make them playable and at least do their thing a bit that one doesnt do its thing at all.
Can we get a Mortal Kombat universe Magic the Gathering series!?
Commander was a community designed brewers dream format and now is 130.00 for precons. 🤦♂️
I mean no one’s forcing anyone else to purchase.
Commander is good now, though
In fact, let me go a step further. The only reason it’s up in price is because people are buying. If people stop buying, it’ll automatically come down in price (or improve in quality to justify the value). Capitalism 101.
I can't fathom spending $400 on the "premium" precons, but people are doing it.
@@magic_claw very true. Reality is. There’s no substitute for magic. Most magic players are addicts. Magic is a drug. Hasbro is the pusher.
Some of us only play paper. If you ban the bird please have a better reason than that it is hard to play online.
Explain Nadu.
I started playing a year ago, the frequency of set releases and the absurdly priced premium releases have made me completely give up paper. I cant be the only one. These decks are pretty cool but I wont even consider them.
I mean, you can just NOT BUY them buy that would be a lot to.ask from a mtg player
@SergioGarsiaSolano I just said I don't. If you're referring to proxy cards that's obviously smarter.
@@tonsofsteel i don't know what are you playing buddy but unless you are playing legacy a lot of those release shouldn't even concern you, i think the problem is yours and not the game
@SergioGarsiaSolano I like cards made out of cardboard. I don't like when they are overpriced. I'm not your buddy pal
@@tonsofsteelWoa, calmdown BUDDY
Whats up with no MSRP? You are killing the game with these prices

please keep the cards on the table and zoom in on them rather than holding them closer to the camera which makes the glare sooo awful at random times!
That's a fault of the lighting, not the camera.

I am curious about the justification behind not giving players ways to remove poison counters. I wonder why a form of damage that already has so many advantages in a 40 life format is deemed worthy of such preservation? Would be interested to hear your extended take on Poison counters in commander, maybe in a separate video.
I've lost some games to poison recently where all I took was one stray hit from a single infect creature before my defenses were up and then all the rest of the counters were proliferated onto me. I'm not saying that poison decks are too powerful or anything, but it does feel a little weird to be in a scenario where you have basically no counter play against proliferated poison counters unless your deck has stack interaction - which isn't really available to all colors.
Its part of the core design, the idea of poison is balanced around it being permanent. Mark rosewater has talked a lot about it and youll surely find your answers if you dig through his stuff a bit.
As a prolific poison player Id say it would probably just nuke my deck if I have to expect someone to remove all counters when my entire gameplan revolves around that.
To your missing outs - as a poison player I often have to play 1v3, on board and politically. Its very easy to convince other players that the poison player is the threat. If thats not enough and you really need a clear cut answer you can go with melira or solemnity
Okay, thanks for the info. I haven't really read MTG articles in past decade. I'll look up some of MaRos writings.
Gavin, can you explain how a card so obnoxious as Nadu was approved by the design team?
It's, by far, one of worst designs on all history of magic. You ruined the modern pro tour, made brawl miserable...
