  • Focusing a rangefinder with Leica VF Magnifier, both the 1.25x and 1.4x, is a lot easier in most cases. Myself, being older, my eyesight isn’t what it use to be. By using these magnifiers I consistently get a 95-99% hit rate.

    I've never used the Leica magnifier, but I just got the Light Lens Lab and I took someone's advice and used a touch of Loctite on the diopter mechanism and it worked perfectly and now it stays where I want it to.
    Regardless, having one of these has been a gamechanger for me, as I like to shoot at f/2 and faster quite often.
    Thanks for all your videos, by the way. They've been enormously helpful in selecting lenses for my M10 and various other pursuits.

    Great information! I shared this with one of my mentorship clients that shoots Leica and has struggled with focus on her M10.

    At my age I find this is a must for nailing critical focus at f.95, especially in low light!!! I have used my Visoflex but this makes it even quicker and easier IN MY OPINION.......and using the Light Lens Lab version was easier on my fixed income wallet.

    I ordered a Leica 1.4 magnifier with M11 adapter from a dealer in October 2022. Adapter is available but magnifier 3:08 still has not arrived. Every time I pass a Leica store in Europe I check whether there are any in stock - no dice.

    Get the Light Lens Lab 1.4 magnifier. Similar build quality. They can be gotten at 1/3 price. Adapter included too.

    Great content, I had previously watched this and enjoyed it. Now I have a quick question, on my M10R I have added a Corrective lens to allow shooting without my glasses, can I use the Light Lens in combination to the corrective lens? There isn’t a thread on the corrective lens so not sure how it would screw on. Thanks a lot.

      Honestly I don’t know. But if you want to email me with your address I’ll send you mine to try it. (If you’re in the US, overseas shipping $$)

      @@kaskoPhoto very generous of you, thanks! I live in Ontario. Just received an email from Light Lens, says not compatible, it’s either one or the other. I’ll stick with my additional Leica Corrective Lens. Again thanks for the offer!

    How do you focus on moving people or objects with the OVF? Without using the liveview of course... because I don't like it and I find it rather inaccurate. The reason I have a Leica M is to do everything with the OVF.
    Thanks in advance for your reply,
    Regards.

      This is where you become the autofocus computer using predictive focus. It takes some practice on moving subjects but it can be done. Now achieving this at f/1.4 or f/2 is not optimal, stopping down to 2.8 - 4 will help a lot. But practice with someone walking. Just practice with a slow pace walk and moving the focusing ring at a steady pace to track them.

    Buy the diopter. It’s easier to get focus and still preserve the angle of view

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  Před rokem +2

      The diopter is for vision correction. The magnifier magnifies the view- two different animals.

    I just press a button and it zooms in digitally so I can see focus better. Leica needs to get with the times, this isn't the 70s and $400 for a tiny piece of glass is insulting

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  Před rokem +6

      Yes, with the EVF attached so does the Leica. But understand that this is a rangefinder that I chose to purchase because it makes me happy shooting it. I wasn’t comparing it to your camera and no matter what it is, I’m happy for you that you like it. Maybe just be kind and accept that everyone has there own likes and choices.
