You definitely get a healthy mix of highways and tight roads in Croatia. I loved both in Croatia, as long as I didn't try to back up on the tight roads. 😀

Thank you for the nice video. One advice for slow sightseeing drivers, wherever you drive: please check your rear view mirrors every so often and stop aside at a suitable spot to let the accumulated row of cars behind you pass by.

Nice Scenic Shots. But Jadranska Magistrale (D8 Coast-Line) isn't a Highway. This is just a Country Road and normaly its Limited to 100 km/h [62 mph] outside of Cities and about 50 km/h [31 mph] inside Cities. There used to be a lot of accidents, so the limit was often lowered to 60-70 km/h [37-43 mph].
Motorways/Highways in Croatia, like in many other countries, are marked with an A. e.g. A1, A3, A8.... (Autocesta) and on the most of them have 2 or 3 Lanes per Direction and u can drive around 130km/h [80 mph]....

Thank you for the additional information. In the USA many two-lane roads are considered highways, even the Country Road, just a bit different terminology. Your information was definitely helpful though, I appreciate it.

    Good day!
Next time when you visit Croatia, try to drive along the coast from Istria (int airport Pula) lets say from city of Rovinj and then drive towards Dubrovnik. If you have time visit islands Krk-Cres-Mali Losinj and Pag (from NW to SE). From city of Senj towards Starigrad including island of Pag, you can find many locations where car companies are testing or making comercials for their new products.
You also have beautiful highway from Rijeka towards Zagreb, beautiful road through mountain region from Zadar towards Zagreb, beautiful roads through continental parts.
Regarding cliffs next to roads/highways, we have road patrols operating on daily basis which check and clean the roads of any rock or similar on the road.

Great video but I have to point out Croatia has also another - continental half of the country that has cities with completely different streets that are much wider.
For instance, Croatian capital Zagreb has many wide avenues and wide streets likewise other, esp. larger continental cities and towns.
Even mentality of people in continental Croatia tends to be somewhat different.

Certainly you should check out continental Croatia next time since this part of the country is very often neglected by tourists although it has huge number of amazing cities like Zagreb, Varazdin, Osijek, Vukovar, Djakovo, Ilok, Slavonski Brod..., astonishing medieval castles like Trakoscan and Veliki Tabor, national parks and nature reserves like Plitvice lakes, Kopacki Rit, beautiful traditional villages like Kumrovec - birthplace of the Josip Broz Tito, villages in beautiful Baranja region and it goes on and on!
Yes, these parts of Croatia don't have sea and beaches but I'm sure that there has to be much more than just that.
Also, one has to try also very tasty continental gastronomy that is much different than coastal predominantly Mediterranean one, enjoy in great vines...
Ps. Continental Croatia usually tends to have lower prices and less crouds!

We (2) females are going to Croatia In October.
We are thinking of getting a rental car to drive from Dubrovnik to Split.
I am a bit concern knowing that we will have to cross Bosnia border, am seeking your advise on whether its a good idea for 2 females driving a 4-4.5 hrs trip.
Shall we take the coastal route,
    D8-414 or the big highway?
    Any advices are greatly appreciated.

As long as you're together you should be fine. That border crossing is easy to get through. Once you're past it, stay on the coastal road for a scenic drive. The other way is quicker, but all highway and not as scenic. 🙂

Croatia has more than just its fantastic coast line. Interior is easy to drive in. Coastal cities were built centuries before the cars were invented. You don't really expect them to put in the roads now, and destroy the history for commercialism... This would only happen in America, country where one can do anything and everything if you have the money. I hope Croatia doesn't become the prostitute of the E.U.
