The dwarves could basically make ultra powerful and rare artefacts for the gods. Stuff like a magic/duplicating gold ring, a literal battle ship that could be folded and placed in your pocket, and Thor’s hammer
So In that sense, the hermits are really good builders who just make the most over the top, unexpected stuff you could think of on the server

I think hermits lore-wise are somewhat like the dwarves in LOTR. They are definitely smaller, and tend to walk around with backpacks full of blocks, food, and riches. They love to hoard wealth over time, and take great pride in having a lot stored up, even if they ultimately never use their wealth for anything productive. They are generally solitary creatures, preferring to build up massive structures around themselves rather than live in a communal space. These structures are very much a reflection and extension of their own personality, and one can easily identify what hermit built what structure with a simple glance. However, their solitary nature is often assumed to mean that they are unwilling to collaborate or spend time with others - as such, when they group up towards a common goal, they can achieve great things.

I feel like Hermits as a species would be somewhere in between Hobbits and Dwarves, since they have a combination of both nice builds and crazy contraptions, along with a great deal of infrastructure. Both are also a lot shorter than normal people, too.

every one of these hermits create huge and wonderful things all on their own, imagine what they can do when theyre all working together
I can see a scenario play out where Mumbo tries to unravel the mystery of where everyone went. Eventually he stumbles upon this portal, reactivates it, and brings everyone home.
And then gets stuck on the other side

My species ideas. Hermits are driven by Diamonds, they are like a comfort to them, a feeling of safety. And although different seasons are separate from each other hermits remember snippets from previous series. Hermits are also incredibly long lived, some of their number being hundreds of years old. I also like the idea of hermits being like a big family structure with a lot of close sibling dynamics, especially when compared to the squabbling of the empires. Hermits are petty but they care enough to never leave someone in the dust.
This would be PERFECT for a custom D&D campaign!

I feel like some sort of cross between Dwarves and Fae would fit very well, as Hermits are known for their love of flight, mischief, resource gathering, and massive projects!
Common Characteristics of a member of the hermit species:
- short stature
- sticky fingers
- natural aptitude for flight with their various wing types
- antennae for communicating with other hermits
- a fascination with diamonds
- other abilities related to their type (such as undead, slime or pesky bird)
These are just some fun ideas I have! I have really enjoyed seeing the story lead up to this and am excited to see where it goes!

I actually have a theory for the lore because of this: what if Mumbo because he's alone and can't find anybody, decides to inspect the rift and finds out that everyone got inside of the rift, and he realizes that they can't get home. So he finds a way to open up the portal again but doesn't exactly go to the same server? and he goes in multiple time until he finds them but when they go back in together, the portal doesn't lead back to the Hermit craft season 9 server? and then that's gonna be the start of season 10?

I think mumbo should try to get to empires and end up in the version of HC where mumbo won the election and realizes how bad Grumbot is which leads to the next arc of season 9 after the crossover
Lore wise, I think the hermit species should be shapeshifters, in the way that they can shift to fit the story they’re telling. They have base forms, like Doc is a creeper, and Cleo a zombie, but with story shifting, they can become Medusas, or elves, or turtles or butterflies!

They follow different kinds of rules of their own, known to find loopholes and be tricky with their words. Are big tricksters and love receiving gifts, usually foods or shiny teasure-like objects. They are also often thought of to have wings, and we know hermits have a strong affinity to their elytra.
The elytra could be styled after bug types of wings to associate all the hermits into the "species".

It's actually quite cool that pixlriffs was able to just start a recap channel about something he enjoyed, and now he's literally meeting the people he's been a huge fan of for a long time. Quite amazing, what a crossover!
The hermit is a very old race of beings known for there short stature and there love of fun and mischief. They are often seen roaming thoughout the world, they are a somewhat unknown species thought to have alien origin routes stretching back 9 seasons. Unlike the empires naturally found they work as a team for one goal, the bonds between each and every one of them are years in the making and will not be broken.
Imagine Mumbo joins back on the server with no one but Grumbot to keep him company
and he has to figure out how to get everyone back

Lore-wise I kinda picture the hermits as little people with enormous backpacks almost twice their size. They're known to be Travellers who explore every world they find and leave enormous monuments as their mark on the world. They earned the nickname "hermits" because of their oversized backpacks and whenever they start building they sort of just dump the contents on the ground and it comes out as a mega build. In short- They're short people who blow away people's expectations by doing big, enormous, incredible things.
The theories behind them throwing everything on the ground and creating monuments is from the large amount of supplies scattered around these monument, which are thought to have been extra resources scavenged by creatures known as "chest monsters" although little is know about them.

Hermits aren’t necessarily short, however they tend to be viewed to at least hold a skillful wisdom that no one would know otherwise. Hermits are also seen as crazy in most circumstances. Hermits are also sometimes considered the first step to sage hood in fantasy and mythos.
This series has become an isekai and im here for it
I’d imagine a hermit to be a slightly shorter, hard working, smart, and they’re really industrial. They’re like little ants in the fact that they can hold way more than their weight (due to the fact that literally every hermit has a full inventory and is always carrying around so much). Hermits on the empire just give off ant, steampunk, scientist, industrial, hobbit vibes.
and they don't barter they set up an efficient economy that is fast ad only requires 1 person instead of 2

Hermits are intuitive creatures. Their small size makes them perfect for cramming many useful farms into tight spaces. Given enough room, they can grow these farms to produce an abundance of materials. Hermits then take these materials and trade them for gems. A few hermits have attempted to pass off gems of lesser value, but this species really only seems interested in diamonds, using them as a currency, either individually easier to acquire, or smaller quantities of items, or even as whole blocks for bulk purchases or hard to obtain items. Organized, they gather all their surplus goods in a single shopping district away from their homes, so that all hermits can find what they need quickly and efficiently. They are also a very sociable society, often times building near each other and/or connecting their homes through tunnels and roadways. This does not mean they are not without mischief, however, so tread carefully, least you encounter a Hermit a bit to excitable with loud noise-makers of any variety, or even a bit of TNT.

Wait, so the Rift sends messages from Hermitcraft to Empires just fine, but completely scrambles the messages (and LIVING BEINGS APPARENTLY - Lizzie's fox villager turned into a regular fox when it came through) coming *from Empires* to Hermitcraft, so the Hermits might have come through to Empires in one piece, coming back however... might be a bit more complicated?

If he didn’t do that as one of the first things this is either lore that effects Grian’s mentality or something is just generally seriously wrong.
I feel that Hermits have the ability to shape shift, changing their form when ever they like and have a love for diamonds. They are very mischievous, loving to pull pranks and create fun games for everyone.

Hermits strike me as a changeling-type species. Clever, quick-witted, and industrialist, but prone to wandering off on individual adventures, following thoughts on a whim, with slightly inhuman glints to their eyes and a penchant for chaos, and possible minor shapeshifting or 'glamor' abilities. Plus, changelings (at least Pathfinder changelings) are all incredibly variable due to the different types of 'hag' they can be descended from, and the multitude of heritages their other parent can be from; this accounts for the Hermits all being very different, despite sharing traits like love of chaos and dramatic flair.
Aight time to make some D&D homebrew off of this. This is a great idea

I think that hermits are hard working people that can do a lot of things in a tiny amount of time. They are also good at prancing others and make others laugh
The Hermits have hobbit or fae energy honestly. It allows for a lot of creative freedom to in your skins too.
I imagine that the hermits have been "touched by the rift" in some way. They could then add a bit of purple in their design so they are visually different. Other than that I love the idea that they are just chaotic nomads :D

My theory is that Mumbo will return to hermicraft. he will get started up again, familiar with all that has changed and realise that no one is joining the server. He will eventually encounter grumbot who will tell him what happened, and that he need to open the rift. Mumbo will somehow open the rift on Hermitcraft's side, and send a red stone flying machine, along with a note on how to use it, to activate the portal from their side

I think it would be cool if the Hermits became something like merchants. They could incorporate some of the shops from hermitcraft into their builds and have almost a trading village. This would also allow each hermit room for their own build style and lore if they wanted. This could also be thurthered by having a big guild house instead of a castle.

Oh my gosh hermits match perfectly with hobbits you should totally make them look like a hobbit or at least a little close but I was thinking of is of somebody who doesn’t get out of their comfort zone very often or does it go adventuring but when it does come to adventuring they’re all over it and they show their true self😂
I cant wait for mumbo to get on the Hermitcraft server, be alone, and be like "Did I miss something?" Then he probably going to end up finding the grumbot ask it some quetions, find out where everyone went, end up saving them by finding a way to open the rift (using redstone of course) for them to get home. Something like that. At least, thats how i imagine it.

I think that hermits should always be obsessed with diamonds. Making pillars out of them, trading them and most importantly, wearing them. Hermits LOVE wearing diamonds, and this above everything else helps you to tell them apart.

I have the best idea for a species . How about we make all the hermits 'taller' and make them look Bigbrain along with a three-piece suit which is matching with their original outfit.They can also wear a belt ,watch or any other accessories which has an H that symbolizes the people of their tribe.
These creatures are also known as Hermastute (which stands for Hermitcraft and astute )

Due to diamonds always being seen as currency, hermits could be kind of be obsessed with diamonds.

I think Scar, in general, is peak Hermit. Always starting off with something different every season but eventually doing whatever makes money, insane timelapses, and overall goodtimes.
Also I like how Grumbot orchestrated this crossover so when Mumbo finally gets back he is the only one on the server and, therefore, de facto Mayor.

I think it's all been planned. Mumbo will be back and have to rescue the hermits, and him and grumbot will be mayor afterwards as I believe grumbot stole all the diamonds

I like the idea of the Hermits being just that…Hermits. Any of the hermits can choose a skin and backstory for their own character that best fits them but what connects them all is their choice of lifestyle and unusual origin…wanderers through a strange rift, unaligned to an empire or land on this server.
I could see some fun gags happening from just some differences in customs between the Traveling Hermits and the people of Empires.
Some common traits between hermits:
They often go off on their own and establish grand homes for themselves away from the many empires. They’re more for doing their own thing than following the edicts of any one kingdom. The only common space that unites them is the Shopping District. See, many Hermits are often struck with an entrepreneurial spirit and will seek wealth in diamonds by producing goods and services needed by the other wandering Hermits. Many will amass great riches through invention and tinkering with redstone, while others would delight in the architectural arts.

Taking in like Hermit Crabs and HermitCraft aspects, I think the Empire's Hermit species should be like the Rascal from this year's mob vote. Visually, Hermits are short with eye bags and gloves that is individually designed after their iconic skin along with something to represent some bag. The bag can be like the Rascal of a large back pack or a shoulder bag etc. To take on the Empire's role playing and Rascal's trading feature, each episode or each time a Hermit is online, they have a list of requests (up to 3) that another player can complete ALL for a god level weapon, armor, or something good item to have (something a Hermitcraft player may have). Instead of trading with diamonds, this can be Hermits' personally way of bargaining. But as the Rascal is found underground, Hermit crabs are in their dark shells, both are alone but with friends and family at a distance.
