I do a lot of depreciation analyses on my channel and also did one for the 720s. To be honest, the depreciation is steep at around EUR 23k per year. It is, however, flattening and I think that prices will bottom. Having said that, EUR 23k (about 20% of its new price) is a normal depreciation rate when compared with 'ordinary cars'. The problem arises when you start to compare it to its most important peers (porsche and ferrari). These are mostly depreciating less than 20% in their first year. Like TGE also mentions in the video, this is because these brands are controlling the lifecycles and production numbers. On the contrary, brands like audi (R8) and Lamborghini (Huracan) are managing their production similar to Mclaren and, as a result, also depreciate around 20% in their first year. I guess brands will do a cost-benefit analysis to figure out which route to go. For a brand as Mclaren to which supercars are the bread and butter of their business, I would expect a more long term view to create loyal customers.
I am McLaren Owner and only can give you my experience, first of all I am not going to say that some owners haven’t had issues with there cars, it’s obvious there have been problems. McLaren are a new brand compared to the other established brands , Ferrari, Porsche etc, they have come along way in 10 years, yes mistakes have been made. However my car has been faultless , no issues at all. They are an incredible car to drive and offer a full on super car experience. Finally let’s not forget Porsche GT3 Gen 1 engine issues, all of these had to be replaced , Ferrari 458 also started to catch fire, my Bentley had loads of issues with failing coil packs. The McLaren owners club are working with McLaren giving loads of feed back both negative and positive. I am confident McLaren will continue to improve all aspects of ownership. Finally hasn’t Archie’s plastic rear windscreen in his GT3 RS started popping out ? 😳 Maybe Porsche are using the wrong glue 😂

I own a 675LT spider and 720s among other cars from Porsche and Ferrari and I absolutely love my Mclarens. I’ve had zero issues outside of a tonneau cover adjustment on the LT. Not sure if your problems with the dealers is a UK issue or not but here in the United States my experience with them has been fantastic. I will say their depreciation is horrific but I believe some of that has to do with the 12C/650s debacle with people thinking the 650s was a new model rather than a refresh. Hopefully that’ll all get sorted out in time. In terms of the cars themselves, right now I believe they are head and shoulders above Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, et al in terms of performance and feel....especially their LT series.
I have a 570s spyder, had it for about 9 months put 4k miles on it, had absolutely no troubles with it. Love it compared to the 488 and Hurucan, and everytime I look at it it puts a smile on my face. Dean, see you on Monday after the lotto results , please valet the white 720s , I need to race a Pista and a Gt3RS as nobody wants to film those races on CZcams
I think the execs at McLaren need to slow down, I know first hand working in the automotive industry that timing is always tight trying to compete with with the competitors and get a car out on "time". Rushing to SOP always ends up in issues with initial vehicle builds.
My family live in Surrey and so I want McLaren to do well, I do think they should slow it down a bit. That depreciation is crazy.. how can a 600 LT already lose £50k? That's not good enough... they must slow down. Suppose their investors and shareholders would think otherwise... even Aston Martin is struggling to sell cars its tough out there
Unfortunately you are right unless you’ve bought a P1 everyone I know who has bought a Mclaren has lost on every occasion! Doesn’t matter how rich you are no one likes to loose money
177k for a 720 fully specced, or 230k for a new 600lt? Their pricing is inconsistent given the market, they don’t comment on quality concern of their products either. That sure is a lot to ask from your customer, to play lottery with their cash and possible die in crash. Yikes mcclaren. Manny koshbin got a speedtail recently, probably has that same v8+electric motors priced at 2mil with uncertain quality. It’s kinda funny seeing how long they can keep this secrecy and non-action up. They’re customers are billionaires and millionaires lol they will bring a solution to mclaren’s benefit or not
Some very valid points, I also believe McLaren are more exposed to a UK downturn as the brand doesn't have the same rich old money demographic as Porsche and Ferrari. For high income guys, expensive toys are the first things to go when income drops and McLaren have released more new models during this volatile UK economic window than any of the other luxury brands. London house prices, UK GDP, Sterling weakness...all of these things scare new money. McLaren need to focus less on spin off models and more on the luxury owner experience. The £10k lost key scenario is exactly the kind of experience that people with choice won't tolerate for very long.
someone said Mclaren has a bad reputation as a company to work for so have a high turnover of staff, this leads to poorly trained staff that in return leads to reduced quality and reliability, like many companies right now staff are easy to replace yet they forget their replacements need training and a period to settle in and feel at home
Most of us are in agreement that McLaren’s performance is right up there with the very best in class and I personally think they look mega - so on paper they’re hugely desirable, but their long term (and recently short term) reliability is now questioned which in turn will affect how well these cars hold value, particularly after warranty.
I still want one, just won't be an early adopter of a new model. Hopefully they have/are addressing their customer service. Sounds like you have to have an incident on the M25 and have an exec drive past to have something get done immediately.

I’m surprised Dean took part of this, he sells these things!! Couldn’t help feel for him being sat there while you gave your honest opinion.
I said it’s the best bang for buck you can buy at their market price. He doesn’t sell them at a main dealer new rrp- he’s actually the best guy to buy from!
Dean, see you on Monday after the lotto results , please valet the white 720s , I need to race a Pista and a Gt3RS as nobody wants to film those races on CZcams
Feel like your were firing disguised shots to mcclaren saying fire the car up. Also see what I did there firing up 😂😂😂
I hear there hell when it comes time to warranty and if you do anything to the car it voids the warranty
I think the execs at McLaren need to slow down, I know first hand working in the automotive industry that timing is always tight trying to compete with with the competitors and get a car out on "time". Rushing to SOP always ends up in issues with initial vehicle builds.
*ITS REALLY GOOD CAR MAN GO FOR IT*
Excellent video on the status of the brand.
Do think you've got a point. Good video too. And a allright drive, but its more about the talk which is good.
Great video lad
You'll be ploughing in them lad 😂😂.
Frrracus thats a nice word
My family live in Surrey and so I want McLaren to do well, I do think they should slow it down a bit. That depreciation is crazy.. how can a 600 LT already lose £50k? That's not good enough... they must slow down. Suppose their investors and shareholders would think otherwise... even Aston Martin is struggling to sell cars its tough out there
RDB Vic said the same thing about the panel gaps.
They’re customers are billionaires and millionaires lol they will bring a solution to mclaren’s benefit or not
Driving through rudding Park I got married there. Lovely place
McLaren are building a new showroom in a park and ride in Leeds
That’s how good they are lmao
When is a churn not a churn ? When it’s actually very good content 👍
Tom that 812 N Largo is nothing but carnage would love to see something like that at some point
First ad was a mclaren ad lol
Same car they're driving is now on sale £142,990. Only £35k in 9 months and £150k off list......
Dean looks a bit like Archie in the face 😂
Most of us are in agreement that McLaren’s performance is right up there with the very best in class and I personally think they look mega - so on paper they’re hugely desirable, but their long term (and recently short term) reliability is now questioned which in turn will affect how well these cars hold value, particularly after warranty.
30 seconds in
“engine light turns on”
They look at each other dying inside😂😭
I think it was nose lift
@@michagarwolinski8270 Was battery warning light.
Was that a check engine alert 2 minutes into the drive.
I still want one, just won't be an early adopter of a new model. Hopefully they have/are addressing their customer service. Sounds like you have to have an incident on the M25 and have an exec drive past to have something get done immediately.
TheDonBarracuda seems pretty specific hahaha
@@danielsinyatkin_ Yes, I was referring to Shmee's incident which was fortunately just cosmetic damage.
