Re-calibrate reset the VSC TRAC on Lexus SC430

  • Following the replacement of the O2 sensors on my wife's Lexus SC430, the shop failed to reset the VSC TRAC lights. I was able to DIY the reset using a paper clip. First, make sure the vehicle is on a level surface and the front wheels are facing straight forward. With the keys NOT in the ignition set the paper clip to the jump the appropriate pins. Then insert the key and turn the ignition to ON but do not actually start the motor. The VSC lights will flash consistently, meaning the system is being reset. You only need to see the blinking for a few seconds. Now turn the ignition off and remove the keys. Next remove the paper clip thus disconnecting the jumper. Start the car and the lights should turn off.

    Cheers for the amazing information on recalibrating VSC TRAC light. I made a change using ODB scanner and the end result generated VSC TRAC OFF light. Thank You Very Very much!

    Thank you Stephen. I put my car in for a fault with the roof mechanism and got it back with a fixed roof and a VSC light that wouldn't go off. The auto electrician said his Techstream didn't reach back to my 2003 model so he couldn't recalibrate the car. Take it to "Lexus", he said !!! Well, I got onto Google and laid my heart bare asking how to fix a VSC light on and you, electronically, galloped to the rescue. I had to destroy a perfectly good paper clip but the end justified the means............ Thank you, thank you, thank you, all the way from Sydney, Australia

    This can happen when someone connects a non " Techstream" (Toyotas factory scan tool) to your obd2 port. The lexus service manual has you jump the pins you indicate but says to do it in a fairly lengthy 15 step process. I believe they do this in order to reset all the sensors the system looks at... the SAS (steering angle sensor) Yaw sensors and the deceleration sensors and Im not sure your quickie method does all that but it does work to get the light off and the VSC to work again (as long as there isnt an actual real problem in one of the sensors or in the module itself). The potential Problem with this method is if the values of all those sensors have not been reset correctly, it may possibly cause your stability control to be unable to predict the actual forces on your vehicle in a skid and therefor apply corrections that may be based on erroneous values. So not necessarily a good thing.
    Not really sure but that's my take away. The Toyota recommended procedure should be able to be found online by searching ( lexus C1336). And honestly its not all that much harder to do than this.

This actually worked after I tried all kinds of suggested fixes, pulled fuses, disconnected the neg. battery terminal, Had no DTC CAN codes just these damn lights following a engine light on issue due to bad gas cap. BTW, I have the EXACT same car as you. Same year (I can tell from wheel disk covers) same color, same interior. Only thing I don't have is that wood insert in your steering wheel. Was that an option? Thank you.

    It worked great the first time. Some little hose near the oil dipstick keeps disconnecting. It triggers the light every couple of months. I recently bought a code reader to reset the check engine light and it erased all codes, including the VSC trac. Though your method worked for me the first time it happened. Thanks!

    I have the same issue... is this always a solution, or could there be something else causing the lights to come on the dashboard. My A/C does not work, my convertible top button does work, and certain buttons on the panel such as the VSC don’t work. No beeping noises... nothing. Would using this method to restart, help any of my other issues? I heard that when the drop top button does not work, it will usually make a beeping noise or turn red... but mine does nothing at all, same as my A/C button. Any ideas?

    • @StephenPersky70
      @StephenPersky70  Před 4 lety +1

      Hello... it sounds like you may have something else happening. The method I show in the video is really just to re-calibrate the VSC, which in turn makes the VCS lights stop blinking. If you have all those other problems at the same time... that may be an electrical issue or something else. My prediction is that this re-calibration will not fix those issues. However, I also doubt the re-calibration would do any damage of any kind. Good luck!

      Hi Ben... my best guess is that the paper clip/jumper is in the wrong slots. What type of car do you have? If it is a Lexus SC430... it should be the exact slots you see in my video. If it is a different vehicle, you may need to try some different slots. Ultimately, I am not a Lexus mechanic... I just figured this out at home and posted the video. Apologies if this does not help you.
