    Oof, I keep forgetting how bad those top and bottom bezels are on the Ally. It's like they built it for a 1920 × 1200 screen and then changed their mind.

      @gamers-generation Even if the Ally came in black it wouldn't stand out so bad. Asus didn't want people mistaking it for the Steam Deck though, so white it is.

    Good comparison. Both these devices are great with an egpu if they fit your use case.
    Ive got an Ally and the 4090 XG Mobile. The combo is a beast. It's wild that we can get this much performance out of such a small form factor and a pretty modest power draw.

      @TechGuyBeau I don't have a desktop gaming rig, and I travel a lot for work, so it's been like a whole new way to experience gaming for me, coming from the console world. 😅
      The CPU seems to get better performance since the igpu isn't being utilized. I do wanna experience custom profiles for both and find a sweet spot.
      I've left GPU scheduling on in Windows since it seems like the CPU becomes a bottleneck long before the XG Mobile does usually. Do you think that is sound reasoning? Or am I misunderstanding that setting?

    • @ReformedRabbit
      @ReformedRabbit Před 8 měsíci

      I’m taking back my 4090 xg mobile today. Embarrassing performance. Can’t beat my 3080 laptop

    • @levisorenson7873
      @levisorenson7873 Před 8 měsíci

      @ReformedRabbit I'm curious as to why in your video the Ally + XG Mobile show way less CPU and GPU utilization on average. Is there some type of bottleneck or throttling affecting them? You're xg mobile was barely pushing 100 watts.
      I'm guessing you already returned it, but would have been worth it to try again with a custom profile.

      Won't you run into a lack of RAM, depending on the game? Since the Ally only has 16gb? Or will it borrow from the GPU's VRAM?

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The xg mobile will mean that the ally can access more system memory as dram.
      This means better balancing between VRAM and DRAM.

    Yeah, but you're comparing a 30-60 versus a 370. Of course the 37 is going to run better. You should have used the exact same GPU on both running it to see the difference between the PCI versus the USB. 4. That USB 4 is thunder Baltimore not mistaken or one of them is I think I'm not 100% sure, but the true test is now with the integer scaling that was finally unlocked on the legion goal are added. I've been playing a game with an integer scaling and a lot of games are running like 10 to 15 frames per second above. What you would get with RSR or even FSR? Not sure about FSR3 I don't. I heard that they're working on making a compatible AMD that would be amazing if if AMD manages to get FSR 3.0 on the legion go and the Rog Ally those devices are going to be coming with much more power

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  Před 8 měsíci +3

      Yeah it was running for a while and many games tested. On iGPU what is happening is it’s overheating. The ally is obsessed with boosting beyond 30 watts. Adds short burst perf but kills lows.
      What I recommend doing it setting a custom mode and locking everything to 30 watts. It will lower temps, bring up lows. You can see a bit of the lows issue here even where the legion go cooling prevents cpu throttling.
      I’m a big advocate for stable fps and good lows over higher max. So custom profiles can be really nice

    The ASUS eGPU costs insane amounts of money [comparatevly]
    Its 3070, so its faster than 3060

      @@Games4Play29find out how much max wattage a 3060 can handle and then get the power supply as long as it’s over the wattage it’ll be fine. Also u might as well go for a 3060ti or 3070 more vram and it’ll help a lot more.

      Assuming the lows are also good, yes. You run into issues when the lows and average are much different
