Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Conan Doyle, a superb writer and a prominent physician, created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and 56 short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson, all considered milestones in crime fiction. But Doyle was a prolific writer and created many other wonderful characters; his works include fantasy and science fiction and humorous stories, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels.
