      Simple, companies like Master Lock do not care about the quality of their locks. There are plenty of qualified people out there they could consult to improve their locks, they themselves are well aware of their flaws. However 99 percent of the population are completely unaware of how crappy these locks are, and think they are good locks. Master Lock is great at portraying themselves as top notch quality, and fooling the masses. They are making money hand over fist, and not giving a crap about investing into real security features in their locks just lines their pockets deeper. Unless there comes a day when the masses become well informed about their awful quality and quit buying their locks, they will continue to put out junk products.

      @Tjalve70 Před 5 lety +24

      @@SeleckPlays Well, my thought is that if you can open a lock the way LPL does in this video, or simply by raking which does not require skill, then anyone can open it.
      But if it requires single pin picking, then only skilled people can pick it. And I guess skilled people will be able to pick any lock I have and will ever have.
      So my thought is that if it requires single pin picking, then it is as safe as I can hope for it to be. It doesn't matter to me if LPL spends 10 seconds to single pin pick it, or if it takes him 30 seconds. And I am unlikely to buy any lock that LPL can't open in 30 seconds.

      There are also much better locks that don't have as many easy exploits and would need to be either SPP-ed by a skilled picker or attacked with very loud power tools in a brute-force attack, making the likelihood of real-world attack much less likely. Don't be fooled by LPLs exceptional picking skills. Many locks that he picks on camera in 2 minutes might take a less skilled picker half an hour, if they can even get it open at all. That said, locks that can be easily shimmed, raked, or with low-skill exploits like this should be avoided at all costs.

He uses a method by Potti 314 video 481 to defeat it. It was very difficult to open compared to all the other Master Lock similar models. Haven't watched enough videos to know when a lock can be opened by using a shim or not....
    I know it's a big ask...but maybe you can make a video about identifying locks by the appearance alone, and which would be the fastest way to defeat the lock, either tru picking, shims, brute force, teenage destruction...blow torch etc....

    It’s funny. Because I used a similar technique on the front face wheel combination locks as well. All you need to do is apply some pulling pressure on lock while cycling for a slight resistance. Then repeat it in clockwise and counter clockwise turns. Most combination locks use two turns clockwise one whole turn counter clockwise and another turn clockwise and it is open. Very easy

  • @Swynndla
    @Swynndla Před 5 lety +1

    Nice showing of this vulnerability, even though you've shown it before - it's good to repeat as people need to know how easy they are to open so they wont use them to lock up their valuables. Not all MasterLock's are as easy ... the MasterLock 175 is easy, but the 175D is a little harder (as I've shown recently in my video 120). If in doubt, stay away from MasterLock combination locks.

    The company I work for uses one of these to lock the front gate at night. I know it's useless but the building itself has much better security, beating the gate lock only grants access to the dumpsters. I unlock it every morning. 2 of the dials are stiff and take some effort to turn, I wonder if that gives it more resistance to this sort of attack?

    • @Tjalve70

    I've been a locksmith for roughly 23 years I have one of these right now that I've tried to find a combination on it that I cannot seem to get it open the wheels temp to move easily during certain numbers but the shackle still will not pull open. I try to stay practiced in picking locks open for the most part I'm about as fast as you are give or take but this particular combination lock I cannot seem to get the combination I'm beginning to wonder if there's some type of malfunction in the thing. this particular lock is just one eye practice where they pick up padlocks and door knobs and pick them just to get the feeling when I haven't done it for a while it takes a little longer next time I get a customer that needs to get in their house or somewhere else let me know if you got any ideas.
