#PretendCookingShow is proud to present a special Mothers Day treat: the coziest mom in all the land-Pat Garner. 🥳🙌🥰 Mom, we love you and we trust you, and man, did Melissa, Susannah and I hit the parenting jackpot with you and Dad.
I am grateful for the warm plate of food you had in the car as you ferried me from ballet to Charleston Light Opera Guild Inc rehearsals, for making sure we saw life outside of our (wonderful) hometown, for teaching me to talk to strangers while waiting in line, for being a wonderful grandmother and writing to all three of my children every month, for connecting me to the stories of your life on the farm, for only getting a little mad when we got the giggles in church, for your steady partnership with Dad. Plus: you’re cute. I know I enjoy being a mom because you have always shown us how much you love the job.
Happy Mother’s Day. If it carries weight for you I hope you find comfort today and always. I wish my mom and I could make you some blueberry buckle and sit for a chat. ♥️

#CherylDay’s Blueberry Buckle
For Crumb Topping:
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ⅛ tsp nutmeg
- 1⅓ cups AP flour
- 8 Tbsp COLD unsalted butter 🥶, cubed
For Buckle:
- 1¼ cups AP flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp ground cardamom
- 6 Tbsp room temp unsalted butter
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temp
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp grated lemon zest
- ⅔ cup sour cream
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Butter a 9inch cake pan.
2. To make crumb topping: Combine both sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg and flour and stir until well blended. Cut in butter until crumbs are the size of peas. Cover and freeze to chill while making cake.
3. To make buckle: Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and cardamom. Set aside.
4. Cream together butter and sugar on high for 5-7 mins until light and fluffy. Reduce speed and add eggs. Mix in vanilla, zest and sour cream.
5. Add dry ingredients until just incorporated. Off mixer, gently fold in blueberries.
6. Scrape batter into prepared pan, spread evenly. Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over top.
7. Bake 40-50 mins until top is golden and firm.
8. YUM.

Her mom doesn't seem to play or go along when Jen gives her a compliment about learning something from her and she just doesn't receive it and instead says I didn't teach you that or I don't bake anymore... even when she could have just gone along with the narrative. It's funny to see how adults are still seeking their parent's validation and approval. Yet some parents are still withholding...

I would love to take you with me on adventures as my little girl, taking the lead, protecting and keeping you safe, and keeping that Beautiful dimpled smile on your face. Keep smiling. Life is extremely short. Enjoy every precious moment that you have, especially with your children. I am fortunate enough to still have a close relationship with my 2 adult sons, but Wow, did they grow up fast. Keep being playful in your kitchen for your followers 😉
