Interesting thoughts here. There is a lot of stuff that we actually debunk in the moment and don’t include in our videos. I disagree with you obviously on a lot of this stuff, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I am not upset. You are free to have any opinion that you would like! Im not going to stop anyone!
Yes, with the sobriety angle, there were a lot of things that have happened in my past, toxic people that have done toxic things to me, and internal struggles with self acceptance and bullying and other things that happened in the past, amongst other things. But getting sober was the best thing that I’ve ever done for myself. It’s given me a new appreciation of life, of the gifts that I’ve been blessed with and the wonderful people I surround myself with.
I am already seeing a lot of people commenting here about how I “drank because of a guilty conscience” or how I’m a crybaby trying to get sympathy. Couldn’t be farther from the truth. I went public with it (after encouragement from my rehab counselors) to help spread my story and hopefully help others. I do believe it’s very insensitive for people to say things like that about me when you know really nothing about me and we’ve never met. You can critique videos all day if you’d like, and we can go back and forth arguing on if something could be debunked or not, but I do think it’s weird when people hurl insults and insinuate dark things when they don’t even know 1/100th of the true story. My drinking and alcoholic tendencies were at times made significantly worse from critiques, but not videos like yours made about the content. It’s from reading 100’s of comments telling you you’re the worst person on planet earth and just insulting every aspect of you, from your appearance to your weight. Like I said, we can disagree all day about paranormal stuff (I mean, no one understands exactly what’s really happening and I think that’s the beauty of it), and I really don’t mind.
And then with Heidi. I really want to believe her. I want there to be substance to the story. Put yourself in my shoes… you’ve filmed at over 300 haunted locations, and you have someone offer to do a “connection session” using a homemade spiritual device. We didn’t know what was going to happen. We didn’t know who was going to “come through”. And even in the video, we don’t say we 100% believe that it’s all legit, but it’s an experiment after all, to see if potentially there is some truth behind it. And, I honestly thought some of the responses were interesting, but I don’t like the concept that we were exploiting a widow. We came to film the O P Pyle house, and the experiment with Heidi just naturally sprang out of the interview and from how the day went. We didn’t go there with the intent to exploit her and use the story of her husband for views. Based on the stories I read online, I thought that that night we’d be talking to civil war era energies or similar folks, not her husband. But we tried to treat it with as much care as possible and we got a blessing from Heidi to do so, so, we moved forward with the experiment and investigation! I am a very open minded person and always have been, and after hearing 1,000’s of ghost stories over the years both from people in person and online, I tend to believe them. Sometimes, people disagree, and as I said before that’s fine. I thought it was an interesting experiment but obviously it went a lot differently than I believed it would in my mind.
I’ll also state that yes, my opinion on demons and the demonic has definitely changed. And as I’ve said many times in my content, I use the word “demon” as a catch all. In my opinion, demons are non-human negative energies, and they are very real. I hadn’t opened myself up to that sort of a concept earlier on in my paranormal journey, but after exploring it throughout our investigations and doing research of my own (reading books and studying materials) that’s the conclusion that I’ve come to. And we tend to try to film at places that have more negative energies because they always give us more direct, more aggressive evidence. Others that I have spoken with in the community agree. I still don’t believe in a Christian “demon” (horned beast from hell), but I think that when people describe these “demons” or demonic hauntings, they all sound very similar based on personal experiences. And so, my conclusion has been drawn from time spent investigating, interviewing hundreds of people, and my own research when I’m not filming. And, as stated before, you may notice a clump of “demon” titles, but that’s because we chose locations typically known for disturbing, inhuman, confusing hauntings to investigate. If you would have scrolled down a little bit you would have seen almost an entire 2-3 month span of videos where we only used the word “demon” once, which was when we were investigating a forest known for satanic rituals & cult killings. I use the word “demon” when we investigate places like I said, known for their non-human entities. I don’t make up stories of demons and ghouls to make videos more exciting, it’s simple: if interviewees (or historical records) mention such activity, we are going to investigate it. Simple as that in my mind!
Anyways, sorry for the long comment. I figured, my videos are long enough, why not leave you a long comment! 😂 hope all is well. Just wanted to clear the air on a few things here.
If you debunk as you go along, I think you should put that in or leave it in your video's. I'd love to see that.
I don't usually watch because you don't do that, or don't show it. So it gives a false sense of what you're doing.
I'm SO sorry on the troubles you've had in your past. A lot of us go through some not to great situations that can
lead us to some not so great things that we think will help us deal with it. Again I'm very sorry thing happened to you too.
I give you lots of props & love for your sobriety. Any addiction is a long hard journey to overcome. None of us
are perfect & have flaws. Just most won't admit to them.

The irony isn’t lost on me that I’m responding to you right now with a stinking hangover (last day of the EPL season) and trying to gather my thoughts and express them in a way that doesn’t make me sound like I have been in a motorcycle accident might be a challenge.
First off, thanks for responding and for doing so politely. I get criticism for being too nice to ghost hunters these days but I don’t care, if Colin and others are going to be nice to me I’m going to be nice back. I’m still honest.
First off, I agree that nobody should be bullying anyone. It’s sad you had to deal with hateful comments like that. Criticism is part and parcel of CZcams but non of us should have to deal with below the belt comments like that. Please anyone reading this and if you respond to Colin - be nice
Personally I think you should add parts of the video where you debunk on site. Helps with your credibility and I think your viewers would like to see that process too.
The Heidi thing was an uncomfortable watch for me. Maybe you were not actively seeking to exploit her. But it didn’t sit right with me. I think I’ll leave it at that cos everything else I wanted to say about it is in the video.
The demon thing - I can’t help but think the REAL reason demons are featured in a lot of ghost hunting videos is for the CZcams algorithm and the fact that someone will click on a demon video rather than a angels video. I don’t doubt you have your beliefs on what you say, but it’s def for the sake of the video too. At least that’s how I see it.
I also want to quickly add that it’s great seeing you do these videos as a family.

Colin, great response! I used to sub to the whole crew of CZcams “Ghost Hunters” but then I found this community and started seeing the light. You are one of the few channels I have not unsubscribed to. (Debunkers are believers too, we are all just sick of the fake shit. We just wanna see real evidence) I’ve never seen you act like those clowns, i really like how much of the historical aspect you focus on, and i love your family. Your response to SEG is cool, you made your point but didn’t get all pissy like many do. Addiction is rough, it always amazes me that alcohol is legal when I have seen it devastate people way harsher than some other illegal substances. I wish you well, buddy. As someone who is extremely familiar with this location. I can tell you from personal experience. All these things she claims she’s added to the story over the last 2-3 years. The 600 graves, Bonnie and Clyde, the ability to do seances. All new additions. All she cares about is fame, money, contracts etc. and people lap it up.

I saw this episode. I too am a widow and as much grief I was in at first. I DID NOT try to talk to my late hubby. I had a few times I swear he was talking to me. But I never claimed 100% it was him. I feel like speaking to the dead might hold them back so I don’t.

When I watched this on the paranormal files I was shocked. Heidi is either really sick with grief or another kind of mental disorder that needs diagnosed. I hope she isn't doing this channeling to make money by trying to trick people. I watched Jeff's reaction and you can easily see he doesn't buy it. I would like to think Collin didn't buy into it and only posted this video because he needed to upload something. However he should've taken that channeling session out before he posted it. This video was horrible for all involved.

Dont know, that clip with the woman contacting her passed loved one is extrmeely uncomfortable viewing. I think colin should have left that part out. The woman is clearly going through exteme grief and dealing with issues, and a paranormal investigation centred around that is just mkaing her issues worse. Colin can be a nice as anyone, but i believe that was a mistake to keep that section in his video.

Listen, I like Colin a-lot. I've spoken w/him personally via emails, & was offered a chance to work w/him, writing short-stories for his podcast in the future. He's a good dude at heart, & I'm pretty sure based on his reactions he was just as uncomfortable listening to this poor delusional woman ramble on nonsensically, & the entire time he was just rolling w/it, probably anxiously waiting an opportunity to start filming an investigation w/out Heidi present, but it's her home, & he wasn't going to be rude, nor was he about to say anything that might upset her or make her feel like she wasn't appreciated. Instead he played along w/it, & patiently sat through her borderline coo-coo bird performance, probably fighting off the urge to say _"listen, we gotta move on to our investigation..."_ (which is a polite way of saying _"jeezus lady, can you go away so we can do anything but whatever _*_this_*_ is, please?"._ which either way, hurts his credibility as an Investigator & filmmaker. But traveling across the country, footage, equipment, bandwidth, editing, paying conner & Jeff, & probably paying the woman a percentage to shoot an episode there costs an absolute fortune, that is only redeemable by releasing the episode. So what do you do in that situation? You sit through this crazy broad's whole schpiel, & hope to at-least catch some good activity. That's just the game these days. It may seem unethical, & to a degree it is, but i also understand why he decided to release the episode w/all of it included. That's just the nature of the way youtube works & how he's managed to make a comfortable living doing it. Colin's not dvmb by any means. I'm sure he's already gone over this very criticism, knowing there's a possibility he'll inevitably be roasted for it. & I know he's struggled w/the very thought of ethics (or lack of) you propose, but he can't waste the footage, & wouldn't feel comfortable not including Heidi, who's as you said - a grieving widow, embarrassing her even more than she will be when she watches it back _not_ wine drunk, & potentially hurting her feelings by excluding all the footage they shot w/her. It would break-away from his routine formula, & what fans want from him which has gotten him this far.
I'm not saying your critique is invalid, nor is it inaccurate, & I'm a huge fan of your channel as well. I love your videos - I'm just giving you a _devil's advocate_ perspective as to why Colin feels like he has to go along w/it & use the footage regardless if it's incredibly cringey or if it's pure brilliance.

I understand going with the flow to see what happens. But at some point, he made the decision to include this in his video knowing how unwell that poor woman sounds. Why not leave it out? Why not say afterward that you doubt it was real? No one will ever believe you if/when you find real evidence of the paranormal if you aren't willing to say that you have doubts about other things being real.
@@FloridaDreamer I go over the answer to that very question about 5 sentences down & then several more times throughout but I'll answer anyways i guess. If you watch even 3 of Colin's videos from the last 4 or 5 years, his episodes are y formulaic in terms of schedule & structure. He always does a walk-through w/the property owners, goes over their experiences w/in the home, history of the building(s), deaths, all the reasons why the owners & others familiar w/the location believe it's haunted. He sticks to a schedule, & films 3 to 5 episodes a week in a different city or part of the country on these long road-trips. A-lot of the time he's editing & uploading these videos from his car. He has editors & artists who help, but mostly it's just him, Conner, & Jeff doing this stuff. When he goes out to film, he has 4 or 5 hours to film most noghts, & the footage he gets is what he uses, regardless of if it's gold or (like in this instance) if it's cringe, boring, or whatever - that's the footage he uses, because he's managed to become extraordinarily successful on the YT platform using this same formula for 6 or 7 years now. The travel, the equipment, paying Jeff, Conner, his editors, food, & the fee for using the location to film - all of that is expensive. The only way to recoup those expenses is to upload the video to CZcams. Whatever he films during that time, he only gets 1 shot to get an episode out of it. There are no do-overs nor alternative options because of his established formula, so if the homeowner is a kooky train-wreck during the interview, then the audience is going to see it. There's no _"Cut. Ok we need another take. Let's reset. Can you say it like.... & *action!"_*Whatever comes out of their mouths, that's what happened, so that's what gets uploaded. After filming, the homeowners, & all those expenses I mentioned likely get paid via a percentage based-on the video's performance on youtube. If he discards an entire intro, history of the building he filmed, & his interaction w/the owners, he has no intro, & those people are going to wonder why. He can't travel back & reshoot, because then he's paying double. The deal was they did the tour, & would be featured in the episode, & it would be scheduled for release on an agreed upon date; not using the footage would 1) break away from the established formula, which's been extraordinarily successful so far, I can't recall a time he _didn't_ use the walk-through or history of the building, so excluding this 1 lady would seem like a personal insult to owner, who again - had a deal that it was going to be 1 way, & in the instance that it wasn't, 2) that's immediate drama, the owners are going to get pissed, 3) the episode gets delayed, & then suddenly there's crisis & drama. When you're on the road, editing from a car or hotel room, traveling to locations 5 days a week, & the well-being of everyone involved is at-stake/ dependent on the success, & how well the video performs, Colin's pretty much stuck w/making the best out of whatever footage he gets. Not using the footage w/Heidi would be insulting to her - a grieving widow who's expecting to be in an episode, & is paid based on that episodes performance. The implications of not using it would be far worse than whatever backlash he might face from his community & critics he'd recieve if he didn't. Sort of a _"dammed if you do, or if you don't.",_ scenario & a matter of doing what's best for his team, & the channel, which was to just let Heidi cook in all her banana-pants wacky glory.

@ 19:00 - I wish Colin would go back investigating the buildings, picking up natural sounds and talking out to spirits.
Now he uses all kinds of machines and basically sits in one area with his mum, dad or brother in law talking to the ghost app.
The Paranormal files used to be quite chilling to watch a bit spooky. Now it just feels like an entertainment channel. I love Colin very much. I believe he is kind soul, but he needs to go back to his roots.

So much can be said about this. As a grieving mother, I know the mind can be deceiving due to wishful thinking although I've experienced unexplained things since my son's passing which my other two son's have also witnessed, we understand that my son will always be a part of us no matter what. If I told my psychologist I was seeing and hearing him, she would say I was delusional. Some days I feel like I'm losing my mind but not because I think I see and hear my son, it's grief and it sucks and I think Hedi is going through that and my heart goes out to her. On a lighter note great video as usual and I think you and party pooper make a great team, the remix had me in stitches 😂😂😂 thank you ❤

I started watching The Paranormal Files a couple years back, was a HUGE FAN as the channel always felt very genuine, But the use of “Debunked tech” or the phone apps always made me question the evidence given to the audience
At one point the show was way more dialled down with regard to “ghost hunting equipment” and if no evidence was caught Colin was straight with the audience.
But again the over use of Demon/Evil in taglines and the ramped up use of apps/ working with people KNOWN to fake evidence to control the narrative of the video just made me steer away.
Colin is an INCREDIBLE FILMMAKER and always seemed like a solid dude when you chatted to him on YT or IG, but once you lose trust in what you’re watching that’s kinda it.

I didn’t “come public” with my addiction and struggles to gain some sort of sympathy or clear me of any scrutiny. I did so to share my story and help others feel like they can talk about it too. It is a highly frowned upon subject and honestly it was hard to talk about and be level with. But it was important to me to bring this up and tell people so that they can know about my struggles and feel comfortable with their own. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I can’t stop people from having opinions.
