I definitely have a stronger affinity for We Love Katamari's soundtrack, but you can't discount how groundbreaking the original really was. Insightful as ever, and glad to see a little Hippocrit sneak in there now and again.

I'm Korean, and I've loved music of Katamari Demacy since my teenage years. It was so fabulous moment that watching other guy describing my favorite songs in loving tone. Kinda feels like intercontinental connection. I like your detailed narrating, and the way you using various references. (Liked your plastic love video too) Hope you will keep going!

It's not Shibuya K-E-I. It's Shibuya-kei, pronounced kay. Kei denotes lineage and in this context means "Shibuya Style."
Fair , I didn't think it sounded right but I was going off Google translate that seemed sure that was the way it was said
I still remember the 12 years old me shopping with my family when I stumbled upon a game store with Katamari Damancy on display.
It was also the same day I convinced my family to buy a PS2.
Unfortunately, the game told us that Katamari was sold out, and the one on display was their personal collection.
They did not restock the game in the future and I never had the chance to play any Katamari on my PS2. :(
The first actual Katamari game I eventually played was on PSP.

One thing that surprised me is that you interpreted Angel Gifts as chaotic. When I first played the level, I found that track beautifully meditative--maybe because it's one of the only tracks in the game without singing. But I think it's actually because of the segment that contains an overlay of the chanting you hear in the results screen. The song feels like it has some kind of kinetic energy waiting to be let out--like something big is about to happen, or is starting to happen. It's probably my fave song in the game along with Lonely Rolling Star and Katamari on the rocks
Angel Gift starts in a off kilter relaxed area but keeps build to the point its almost overwhelming amount of noise and pulsing beats, As a whole the soundtrack is still chill, Gift is just a moment of chaos in a calm sea.

Beautiful video! I was born in 03 an I have played the game since then. It is my childhood and has influenced me.
I saw a pic of the game before, years ago. It stuck to me, but I've never played it. Recently, I saw it again in a video, and instantly remembered it. The video also featured a song, and I was struck by the sheer joyfulness and nonsense and majesty of the opening. It was the bizarre weirdness I was totally at home with, since I like Patapon and stuff. So I searched for the album and boom, it was magical and I'm in love. It totally helped that I was already a fan of bossa nova, samba, Shibuya Kei, etc. courtesy of Pizzicato Five. Heck, the second Katamari album even featured the singer, so I was quite pleased overall.
I only started playing the games recently, but I've known the music for a while it's great stuff. I also had Patapon back in the day but I was no good at thee rhythm ( much better at now, should try and pick it up again)

Why is this video under-watched. I made sure to play the game before watching it. Definitely didn't put the context of the music with the level together myself, but it makes sense. Lonely Rolling Star Forever~~~

It's soundtrack gives me good memories of me and my sister playing it together, and just in general. I remember her randomly finding it wlin a DVD case with other PlayStation games.

@@Stevem Takahashi would want to go back, he actually didn't even want to create a sequel but namco said that if he didn't do it they would do without him
@@bast01 Distance makes the heart grow fonder , i'm aware he left on his own terms but it's more so I want to see the mans vision not be stifled by budget. If it woulld be Katamari or any other kind of project he'd want to do. Katamari is just a brand , so in using the name, he doesn't need to follow the old module, he could do whatever within that universe
If you have a pc or switch you can play this very first game in HD!!! :D

This video is probably one of my favorite videos of all time on CZcams.
It's a shame it took Namco until 2018 to make a world-wide release of this game.
I wish it was easier to play it beforehand (especially in Europe but I am so glad they have now) But thank you so much for the kind words

Haruomi Hosono does have his own legacy beyond YMO which is worthwhile remembering just like the time he want of Japanese game shows

This song is essentially a cameo from another Namco game, originally made for Katamari until it has the 2010 version designed for that original series.
Was it suppose to be i the first game I don't think I heard about this beforehand, though I wasn't too interested in cut content more so what made the current soundtrack as it is good
Stevem Ah, right. Sorry. It’s in the 2nd game or so. The afforementioned cameo game wasn’t popular enough at the time of 1st Katamari game.

@@Blck7 Oh yeah Jet Set is the soundtrack as much as it is the visuals which take heavy influence from Japan's B-boy culture which started earlier and got bigger faster than the rapping side of Hip-hop.

Shoji Meguro would be an interesting composer to look into.
While his work within the Persona Franchise goes without saying he has also been involved with other Atlus IP's like Catherine, Trauma Centre and the mainline Shin Megami Tensei games from 3 onward.
I'm fairly certain he was involved with Digital Devil Saga as well which has this real grungy tone to the soundtrack.

@@Stevem the soundtrack is mainly remixes of older songs, there's only a few new levels in the game, rest are from older but with the prince hop and broken hearts

Amazing Katamari is an endless runner game should it be included -shrug- is it also a sequel, because I didn't include Reroll for that reason
I would count We Love Katamari, Me & My Katamari, Beautiful Katamari, and Katamari Forever as sequels. Touch My Katamari feels way more like a spin-off game IMHO. Could be because I absolutely hate it and want it to be separate from the actually great titles so I'm a bit biased. The mobile games are just spin-offs, but Amazing Katamari's plot could be great for an new Katamari console game.
@@TritnewNG Touch is as valid as most of the others, released for an actual consoles tries to add slightly to the mechanics and then does the katamari thing. I don't really believe in cutting them because of preference, if that were the case i'd pretty much cut all but the first two that were created by Keita Takahashi since those were his intent everything after was franchise pushing

@@cheekyqueefs Okay that's fair, though that sounds like that's an issue with how CZcams is implementing the system and the lack of customisability, we have with our own feed.
I do have one question, you didn't comment on this video until after the video was released. Is the premiere slot still there after and considering you didn't comment before it was public, why didn't you bring up the issue then.
