Goto, Siopao Asado & Suman sa Ibos đ”đ | Trying Filipino Food in Jersey City
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 12. 08. 2022
- I went to Jersey City, NJ to try Filipino Food. I tried goto for the first time. Goto is a Filipino rice porridge that has pork stomach (tripe), innards and sliced eggs. See my reaction as I try goto along with suman sa ibos for dessert. Jersey city has some of the best Filipino food around Manhattan and this does not disappoint. I also tried pork siopao (Filipino buns) and ube pandesal (purple yam bread) which were delicious! I enjoy the food of the Philippines and the great communities the search for it takes me to.
Episode Intel:
Casa Victoria
691 Newark Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07306
Reggie Ate: Pork siopa, suman sa Ibos, ube pandesal (purple yam bread)
Little Quiapo
530 Newark Ave C, Jersey City, NJ 07306
Reggie Ate: Goto (Filipino congee with tripe and chicharon)
LoL! I love this guy. He pronounces all the names of the food the way he knows how. Very entertaining. Thank you for promoting Filipino food.
As a Filipino myself, I appreciate you for trying our cuisines and desserts and I hope you liked them, brother. If you want to learn more how to cook them on your own, you can try to search some types of dishes that we have and search them here on YT. There are various Filipino cooking channels that you might also want to subscribe for you to be updated. Hope all is well!
@BeerusTv Agreed on this. I only just watch some tutorials in YT and after that, I usually tweak it using my own recipe or top it up with some additional spices that suites so in that way, the food can be more flavorful.
The store is so well stocked. And the choices of fish dishes, that makes me go green with envy. There is nothing like that here. I also miss the goto.
Suman sa Ibos (the palm wrapping) is best dipped in muscovado or brown sugar or better yet, pair it with ripe sweet mango. Oh and coffee on the side.
Wow that sounds delicious! What region of the Philippines has the best coffee?
@@unculturedtravel Phils is one of the few countries that produce the 4 main coffee varieties of Arabica, Liberica, Excelsa and Robusta, altho 90% of coffee produced is Robusta. Arabica is mainly grown in the highlands of Luzon and cooler parts of Mindanao while Robusta thrives in the warmer lowlands. IMO, the single origin Sagada Arabica with its clean and fruity taste is the best coffee locally.
Suman is usually wrapped in a coconut leaf and you are right that it should be dipped in something sweet like sugar. Here in the Philippines we usually eat it with ripe mangoes, or in my province a local chocolate drink we called tablea
Woa tablea! Never heard of that, thank you! What province?
lodi thanks 4 promoting filipino foods.. always watching your videos..
Nice vlog. Glad you liked the food.
Wow seeing Philippines product yummy. Enjoy
8:45 suman sa ibus is made out of sticky rice or glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk halfway then wrap it in coconut leaf then steamed, there's various way of eating it since it doesn't have added sweetener...commonly dip in sugar, you can dip it in coconut jam (we call it matamis na bao) or you can have it with sweet ripped manggo...in the southern part of the Philippines they eat it with what they call sikwate or hot think chocolate drink...9:45 its a filipino version of congee...we have two type of congee we have what we call arozcaldo and goto...arozcaldo is made with chicken while goto is made with pork intestine or tripe we eat it anytime of the day can be your normal meal such breakfast, lunch or dinner or have it as snack...
Wow, thank you for this info, I want to try and find arozcaldo!! What is your favorite?

I love it! I can see it being very comforting! What are some other "rainy weather" dishes?
@@unculturedtravel You can try searching for lomi (thick noodles with a "creamy" texture soup), la paz batchoy (egg noodles in a clear savory soup, almost like a ramen dish) and sopas (macaroni with a milk soup base).
Thank you sir for patronizing filipino food.
hey dude thank u for tasting our filipino foods.i am so proud
I miss those variety of grilled fish especially when Iâm in the Philippines fresh and yummy. I think the ripe mango is the best fruit in the world. Love it!
Im in love in some foreigners eating filipino food. Welcome to Philippines đ”đ agad
Awesome pinoy dishes â€
Siopao is eaten with sauce specific to siopao. It is a thick, sweet soy-based sauce almost similar taste to teriyaki sauce. siopao is also eaten piping hot. What you've eaten is baked siopao that's breaded. The more popular type is the steamed one wrapped in a bao bun. If you buy it again, ask for the siopao sauce. for goto, you put a few drops of fish sauce to add saltiness and unique umami flavor. It is calamansi that's normally used. Lemon has a totally different taste profile but I think calamansi is not readily available there. Calamansi is always the lime used for filipino dishes and is several times more flavorful than lemon or lime. Lemon/lime is just a substitute in absence of calamansi.
Most American know what a Siopao is because Chinese restaurants and Chinatowns exist in every American city. The Siopao is not exotic. No need to give foreigners a lecture on what a Siopao is.
He was asking what sauce to put on it. So this was the answer. Please watch the vid first.
That was clearly asado not siopao
Thank you for this insight! Is there a specific Filipino name for "baked siopao"
Either way, it was really tasty! What other popular fillings are in Siopao?
Wow on the road to 4K subscribers more power thanks for featuring Filipino cuisine.
Thank you! I'm learning a lot! What should I try next?
My mouth is watering watching you eat those yummy Pinoy food. đđ
Nagutom ako sa yo ang sarap mo panoorin kumain ng pilipino food
Your instincts are right. We sometimes eat bread (like monay or pandesal) on the side and dunk it in the goto!
We also pair monay or pandesal and butter with pancit - all carbs but it works.
appreciate you trying to experience Philippines there. đđ
Wow so many fish dishes
menudo pandesal gave nostalgia to my childhood đ
You were right there at the Philippino Bread House with the fresh sweet buns. They have baked goods, cakes, nuts, and a hot buffet. I'll have to try more dishes next time I go. Great video!!

I like to goto with sweet and sour ginger

It is so comforting and delicious, what other pandesal fillings are popular?
Yeah your correct buddy. Pinoy used to do that dipping the bread in the soup or even coffee, just like pandesal. What a coincidence!
That goto is nice with Tofu and Porkâs ear I believed, called âTokwat baboyâ comes with soy vinegar. Perfect combination as comfort food
Sarap lalo na't tag ulan

you are like a typical Filipino. What we do is mix our food too like what you did with the goto and siopao. What really is a good combo is Mami ( noodle soup) and siopao. Stay safe and be healthy. Good luck on your search for a good Flip food.

The siopao you ate was either baked or toasted, you just eat as it is.. Paos are usually eaten without sauces.. Filipinos love the addition of sauce because of the additional sweetness to it..

I'll have the BOPIS and DINUGUAN... make that with extra garlic fried riceđ

This was a great spot! What would you have tried?
The Goto is good with Tokwat Baboy or just Tokwa.... fish sauce or soy to make it salty.. and fried garlic for taste
i love all suman but my favorite ibos suman for coffee.
Love your content man! Goto is a popular miryenda or afternoon snack, we used to eat it with my friends during high school and college days when life is just so simple, it brings happy memories. Thank you man!
Goto, my comfort food â€
For goto... I like to add a bit of ground pepper and fish sauce to taste. Also I like to add a little garlic-chilli oil in my goto but If you don't have one... Tabasco or Sriracha works just as well!
Sweet breads with stuffings, usually you eat with hot coffee..next time you eat suman, springkle sugar on top...
I wish they have this type of Store and Karinderia at the same time in Brisbane..!
Best partner for goto is lumpiang shanghai. I grew up eating that combination. :) I like it more but tokwa't baboy with goto is good too
I dip my siopao in any soup. đđđ

Yum, this sounds so delicious and simple, thank you!
To enjoy more how to eat suman (sticky rice wrapped in coconut leaves) is to dip it on sugar or you must have a choco espresso on the side .(Much better if you can find cocoa tablea ,it is a pure cacao, use as coco drinks ) We usually eat it for breakfast or afternoon snacks .. or dessert .
oh yeah suman i love dipping it on ordinary sugar
