My husband and I did 1week Las Vegas and 1 week Hawaii in 2012. It cost us £5000 from the moment we left home to the moment we got back. I am still proud of that.
Lost my Husband last year but we had 59 holidays together over 35 years. We did all we could just incase.

Owww it doesn’t have to be!
I thought I was gonna be all sad and depressed but for me, it was my boy is gonna go to college, educate himself and hopefully he will stand on his own two feet and chose his own path! How amazing is that?
So he went to college and every chance he gets he comes home!!
Granted is more to see his girlfriend than anything else but still! Just when I start missing him, he comes! Lol
I’ve prepared myself mentally since middle school!
I think is gonna be the hardest with the last one! But I’ll deal with it when I get there!
      4 more years!

Every time one of ours left for college our lives had big changes. Our youngest went this fall and by the end of the year both siblings got married and one grandparent went to assisted living. Everyone asks how is the empty nest and we feel we swapped an 18 year old for an 81 year old, they just don’t live with us. I’m trying to find the blessing in being so busy we’re not hung up on no kids at home.

As much as I want to pay off debt & plan for the future I realized I'm not living. There's nothing to stop me from traveling across the country for a music festival so why not just do it?! We never know what will happen so we need to enjoy life. 💖

You can totally do the road to Hana by yourselves. Ignore the rental car company warnings. There's only like 1/2 mile unpaved and that is gravel. It's fine. If there is a pull off with people selling stuff about half way, STOP. They are amazing people and so kind. Buy the stuff from them. I still have my woven basket 22 years later. It's the best vacation.

Pausing the video to say thank you for talking about balancing saving and actually living. I'm 34, hubby is 37. We have 8 kids, oldest just turned 18. We live about $10k/year under the poverty level for our family size. We have worked really hard and are 100% debt free including the house. Now, we're starting to enjoy life a little bit. We're taking a vacation this year plus taking our oldest on a "senior trip" (he's home schooled) with just me, hubby, and him. Traveling even on a budget isn't cheap and it's so hard for me to spend money after saving so strictly for my entire life. I really needed the reminder that balance is a good thing. And I keep repeating to myself, "this is why we're frugal."

The road to Hana is freakin AWESOME! Even if you just drive it. But you can for sure look up some stops. Go in the rain if you can.. WAY less people and it was warm and delightful. Wear bathing suits so there's no fussy changing. You can wear clothing over, but make it light and layered. Hats with attached ties in case there are winds.. there'll be winds!

I like how your daughter had input, but I also love her attitude!
In my second marriage, my son was living in a garage room (former 3rd stall) in California with the laundry, extra pantry cupboard, and no air conditioning vents. Yes, he got heat exhaustion once. My ex would just close the door to keep the cool air in the house. Yup. So his son went on a 2 year mission and asked that his room be kept how it was for him, complete with stuff in the closet. The ex said, sure, no problem! So my son was getting sick in the garage and my 2 daughters were sharing a room, but he had "promised." Yeah. The marriage didn't last and I'm not sad about it. I love your family!!

On the grain mill question, I just replaced an old Nutrimill Classic with a Komo Mio, and I have to say that I love it so much more. The Nutrimmill was a bit of a process to get out and use, so I ground an entire can of wheat at a time and stored the flour. Now I grind what I need, and with the convenience and reduced storage needs I'm branching into other whole grains. So spendy, absolutely! But worth every penny I saved up for it.

My parents didn't change my room when I went to college but we did move houses 3 months before I graduated. I often would still have dreams of my old room and for a long time, I always thought of our old house as my "home" (I am 26 now). I wouldn't change her room. Even though I probably would've told my parents they could, having a space that felt like home and reminded me of the safety of my family was so important (especially since the transition to college can be very hard). Obviously, you have to do what's right for your family and I was the youngest sibling so they didn't need the room. It was just so important to me to have a place I could come home to that truly felt like mine and felt safe.

I got the Helix Midnight Luxe with the cool cover thing last month. So far, mixed reviews from me.
I got a queen, and it was VERY difficult for me to maneuver, unbox, get on the bed, get the plastic off, and arrange on the bed by myself. It's definitely a two-person job.
There was a strong smell from the mattress that lingered for a long time, even after opening the windows and airing it out without sheets for days.
I still sweat even with the cool covering. I don't have a Helix without the cool covering to compare it to, so I don't know how effective the cover is.
I didn't expect this bed to cure all my physical ailments, but I have not noticed any significant improvement with pain upon waking in the morning. (It's only been a month, though.)
The bed is comfortable and I like it, but I'm not convinced that I couldn't find something comparable cheaper.

Being a single mom to 3 teenage boys is too hard on me. My husband was severely injured on the job by taking a really nasty fall and he hit his head. He had to have emergency brain surgery on 6/24/22 and he is now in rehab in Paramount Ca. He can’t walk, talk, eat, dress himself, take care of himself and he can’t come home. I have been alone for 9 months and sometimes I go to bed crying.

Braces shop around. We had one ortho tell us 8500 for my son and another tell us 6000. Biiiiig diff!!!
Also if you can wait. Kids mouths grow. We waited for my son till he was 16 instead of 13. He was going to need this massive set of braces at 13 but simple ones at 15. Wouldn’t have got them but his tooth was grinding against that tooth. Remember they ARE A BUSINESS!!!
Ask if they do family discounts. Make sure the quote covers the entire set of braces. Sometimes the quote doesn’t cover the removal of the braces, etc.

To keep your child’s room as is for at least their first year of college and 2. Do not separate with your spouse their first year away. I just remember those two things sticking with me because I didn’t have any plans to do either!!😂 And in case that was confusing- room is the same and I’m happily married.

Surfing in Hawaii suggestions: I tried surfing on the beach in Honolulu once about 45 years ago. HAHAHAHAHA! I rented a board that was soooo huge I had to drag it into and out of the water -- couldn't carry it. (Obviously, I was not as fit as the Frugal Fit Mom.) I tried standing up once and I fell with my feet going straight down in the water which then smashed on a bunch of coral. That flippin' HURT. It's better to do a belly flop when you fall in not so deep water than to go down feet first. My last bit of info. is that the sea was desperately trying to pull us out away from the beach. Be careful not to drift too far out in the ocean. Otherwise, definitely give it a try. Seeing video of your surfing exploits later would be fun!

Cost was about $75 per person but we kept checking until found them $20 off, so $55 per person when purchased in advance. Tour including going out in fields and eating as much pineapple as you could as they sliced it in fields AND each person received a boxed pineapple suitable for airline travel home. We continue to buy the pineapples shipped here for Christmas gifts too. Costco near airport is great but expect higher prices on everything.

    1. Books. Steve Berry ‘s Cotton Malone series, only one so far that I felt was a miss. Teaser, it wasn’t the first so give them a try.
    2. Haley’s Room. Totally impressed by her answer of considering it a waste to not used. That young woman has her head screwed on straight.
    3. Losing friend’s. I agree totally. Early in my improving financial journey, I had a job with lots of down time, several of us were friends and talked about everything, including money. I quickly learned to only discuss money with those that had what I considered to be good money habits. I remained friends with all, but I only talked money with those that re enforced my better habits. Now, that I am retired and comfortable with my life and decisions I would talk money with all. But early in my journey, I wanted the re enforcement of only good choices.

Oh my goodness! I think I accidentally trained my dog to recall. 😂
She was abused before we rescued her, so between the new name and being scared, she would hide.
I kept a baggie of cooked chicken thighs in my pocket and gave her a piece every time she came when I called her name and patted my thigh.
We can let her off leash anywhere that’s allowed and she never gets farther than 10 or so yards away from me. It’s the best. All my dogs, growing up, were runners. They would bolt through any crack in the door and take forever to get back. My dog now never leaves me. What luck!

Maui is my favorite island! Drive the road to Hana yourself. That way you can stop when needed. Get a really early start! Have Ginger chews and peppermints. Drive slow. It’s so beautiful!
Also- get the book Maui for Dummies. Great info!
Snorkeling right off the beach at the Fairmont- on point!!!!
    Have so much fun!!!

I love this kind of videos :) protect your children, watch them grow, and be fulfilled both as a mother and woman... you deserve everything you have achieved and your kids and husband are Lucy to have you, I am also lucky to have you, your recipes and tips helped save money and now im closer to be able to afford to pay for my own college myself as my parents weren't able to, you are a gift sent from the universe, I did splurge and had an unplanned 2000 dollar purchase a few months ago (I bought a dog) but no regret, he is the best and I love coming home to him everyday, other than that im pretty much on track and part of that is thanks to you

For the road to Hanna- take a lot of bottled water and a bag of candied ginger. Great for any nausea on the twisty turny Hanna road. Breathtaking, one lane in some parts but worth the very long drive. Also leave a bit of time to take a dip in one of the waterfall fed pools along the way. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the very top.

Totally what my hubby and I did in Hawaii (Maui) for our honeymoon...Went off-season (october) camped in hubs tiny hiking tent on a ridge by the ocean (thought it was gonna blow away but found big lava rocks to hold it down), bathed in the ocean WAY below our tent site in a little nook surrounded by rocks ... hiked the seven falls & through bamboo & guava "forests" & down dry riverbeds BY OURSELVES... We did do some of the "regular tourist things too...sunset cruise, snorkeling...stayed in a condo a couple days, but we had so much fun staying out adventuring in nature most of the time...and we did the Road to Hana ourselves too...beautiful!!! God is GOOD!!!🌴🌴

Omg, you will love Maui! I know you are looking forward to outdoorsy activities in nature, but give yourself a half day to just lay in the sand by the ocean! It is gorgeous and I’ve never seen ocean water SO CLEAR!😍

I talk to my daughter the same way you do & she’s now 23. She moved out about 1&1/2 years ago to be closer to work & school. We still constantly message/ text/talk whenever we can & have a monthly meal together except when finals are around it becomes 2months. But I love that relationship with her. I think more people should have a relationship with their children like that.

Hear you on the house purchase before 2008. We had to sell our first house in 1995. Total disaster. Not only lost $, we also got a really bad credit rating because of circumstances outside our control. It took a long time, but we finally climbed our way out and became homeowners again. Lots of scrimping and saving. Wish we had CZcams with channels like yours back then! (If there were I completely missed them. 🙄 Thank goodness for your channel now!

I put off all kinds of things and now my learning disabled brother is very sick with 3 cancers and I am his main caregiver. I also take care of my elderly parents. My life has come to a screeching halt. I don't know when I will be able to travel again. I wasted a lot of years when I could have done whatever I wanted. I also missed out on a once in a lifetime trip to see Phantom of the Opera in NY. It was the only thing my 24 year old daughter wanted to do and we saved it for college graduation. Now it's gone from Broadway and we can never see it. I have so much regret about that. Please do everything as you can. You never know what is coming in the future.
