Sometimes a good song becomes a great song when interpreted by a great singer. He took it to where it belongs. Loved this performance. ❤️ ❤ ❤
He made them feel it. He made him feel it. That’s what soul did to you, but you got to be a special person to deliver it to move the crowd.
If you compare Gregory with stings performance of the song on a video, there’s a dramatic and drastic difference. Performance is exquisite, powerful, deep, painful, and beautiful here. Gregory does something completely different with it and it’s just gorgeous and its own right the two contrasting styles are amazing. The song is fabulous Sting is a genius. And this performance of it is also gorgeous
I heard it before seeing it and I remember sting singing this back in the day! But on hearing Gregory sing it I was totally blown away. I love sting! He is one of my hero's from years back. But Gregory's version of this is excellent. 🎉
Sometimes the best reaction is no reaction. It's just too beautiful for words.
Porter’s voice is a soft cushion you can fall into and it wraps around you and keeps you safe.
you dont have to be vocal coach to understand that thus performance is awesome :)))
I saw Gregory Porter in October 2021 at the Royal Albert Hall. Absolutely blown away. There really is nothing like listening to a musician who is truly at the top of his game. And not just Gregory. The entire band was spectacular.
Could not agree more
The part where you say he’s off is him vocally showing “It’s hard to say it..” by going slightly off key, but still landing at the end of the phrase. Genius interpretation of it being hard to say it.
I love this performance so much. The warmth and subtlety of Gregory Porter's delivery, the beautfilly finnessed orchestration of the song and that dreamy slide guitar just sends me into heaven, and of course the reaction of the front row! Thank you, Beth, for helping us to appreciate it all afresh. Totally agree with what you say about the way Gregory Porter's voice as a manifestation of his personality. Thank you. Keep doing what you do.
I always live the guy next to stings wife at 4:38 in this video. He just closes his eyes and looks up in such awe taking it all in
That's one of Sweden's biggest artist of that generation, Tomas Ledin :D
That’s what I apptsbout this video. How Tomas Ledin is just taking it in.
Same! Thomas Ledin is just drinking it in. He shows what I feel when I listen to it. Beautiful!
So love his reaction.
The emotion of this song just broke me. 😢 Fantastic performance.
I never heard him sing an easy song- his genius is the ability to captivate his audience no matter who or where. I really value you Beth and your opinion so please try to react to his other songs:
On my way to Harlem from International Jazz Day 2022 and
If love is overrated
Sting’s and the audience’s faces say it all in addition to your genuine excitement about the song. Thank you.
saw him in Nashville. Phe·nom·e·nal. Majestic.
Love this. So suave, smooth, delicious, buttery as it reverberates and draws in the listener. Perfection by way of imperfection. Great rendition.
I have heard and seen Gregory Porter in concert 3 times, and those were some of the best live experiences I have ever had!!!
Lucky you
I hear some Lou Rawls soul, breezy and smooth. Magnificent.
Agree - I also thought of Lou Rawls.
Whenever I feel the need for a comfortable listening session I put on one of his albums. To me his voice feels like a snuggly blanket.
I have watched this performance LITERALLY over 100x and shared with everyone ❤
That’s all. I think I’m at 1000❤️
The emotion and soul just makes this song soooooo lovely!!! I heard this and was like wowwww! I heard it in this version and didnt want to hear anything else!!!
Youre spot on with your observations! I didnt know anyone else could hear it!

I just love listening to him... especially this song and performance, everything I've seen so far just makes me want to listen to more.
I saw this performance years ago and I was blown away. Master class
Definitely a very impressive performance and his cover like as life and from within him. Breathing, ups and downs in harmony, it is not possible to imitate this naturalness, and a lots of pain, happyness, longing, .etc experience are required to say this style. In short, it is necessary to be human. Many people can be good singers, but good singers must add life to their style. Gregory seems to have nailed it and your comments are great, thank you. ❤
I love the break which to me underscores the emotion. So powerful! ❤
"I don't want to hear a robot. I want to hear a human sing."
There's a reason they call some music 'soul'. Humans have it! AI never will.
...And I think GP just might have enough soul for about 6 of us 'regular' folk!! 🥰
💚💜
Gregory is the most beautiful artist I have ever heard and seen. So thankful for him and your post about him.
That was a great performance. I hadn't heard of him before, but I'm definitely going to have to check out more of his music. He reminds me a lot of Bill Withers, one of my all time favorites. In fact, when the song first started playing, before you mentioned that it was written by Sting, I thought it sounded like a Bill Withers song.
Hi Beth, Firstly, I have to say that it is so refreshing to see that someone as young as you has such, as Sting himself might say, fuddy-duddy views on music. 😉 … to err is human and sometimes those mistakes sound better than what the composer initially intended. How else are we going to learn?
lol: my athletic days may have ended years ago, but I couldn’t live without music being in my life. Music is the best communications medium we humans have with our higher consciousness. It’s the best tool that we have to bring the world together…. one song at a time. Stay safe 🙏 but have fun 😊
He’s as cool as you can get! He delivers with such ease and just enjoys what he’s doing.
So glad you did this!!!! My favorite of all time!
He's a great singer. His duet, with Rita Wilson, of Songbird, as a tribute to Christine McVie, at the Royal Variety Show, was brilliant.
Cool I'll give it a listen 🎶

A wonderful cover of a wonderful song ❤🎶
I’m so glad you’ve finally gotten to this video. Of course Mr. Porter is an amazing talent, but his choice of song, the unique setting and audience reaction make it one of a kind. The Polar Prize, Sting, his wife, the King of Sweden, and Tomas Ledin’s ability to take it all in. One of my favorite videos of all time.
That music make feel so good thank you ❤❤😅you’re the best love and peace always I wish to see on the podium before I die. Thanks again you make my night great 👍 😮
I Love this song! Thanks Beth ❤
The guy to Sting´s right, Tomas Ledin a great swedish musician/songwriter closes his eyes and just enjoy Gregorys fantastic voice.
Same thing happened when prince let Sinead O Connor do "nothing compares to you" This song now belongs to Mr. Porter 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful performance and reaction thumbs up to both of you !!!!
Thank you. You're the first person who addressed the crack that stands out -- the elephant in the room. One reaction even eliminated that part of the track.
Even Sting was emotional 😢
Hello from Chile
Hola de Inglaterra
1st time here. Love your break down 🙏🏿
This rendition has made me cry more times that I can count
Should have heard his singing before since he's a local treasure (think home of Merle Haggard & Buck Owens ) but this is my first time listening. Agree with the Bill Withers take - a bit more range on display here. Beth, your analysis is regularly spot on and wonderfully expressed.
I have mentioned the volume of your audio before and it got better, but it is still lower than everyone else I watch. Not a huge problem, but I have to turn up the sound when you start and turn it down again after. Still loving the content though!
That crack was on purpose. That’s the way he said
Fantastico!!
GLOBALY...THE BEST SINGER IN THE WORLD...
Enjoyed the song and your reaction.
Hi. Beth! Please react to Gabriel Henrique singing HURT, SAVING ALL MY LOVE FOR YOU, DON'T STOP BELIEVIN' and FEELING GOOD. Gabriel will perform at America's Got Talent 2023 on August 1.
What if he sang it at a slower tempo?
Heard Gregory do "No Love Dying Here" on Jools a few years back. 🤯😢
You should do Rachelle Ferrell I can't explain...live
His video Be Good is such a great song
Me gustó el final aunque no entendí el consepto de la canción pido disculpas por mi ignorancia Beth 👏👏🍀🍀

He has been compared to nat king cole and Donny Hathaway he did whole nat king cole album

Just watch trudi stings wife. Her expression says it all. 🎉
what took you so long!!!!!
this has been my fave greg song for years. to sing in front of sting and his wife took guts. he did a better job than sting. He did a great job but messed up at the end\
Mucho Groove 👌👌👌
It's hard to say and I hate to say it... but I'll stick with Porter's version...
React alcione você me vira a cabeça
Do you know what would be interesting: Analyse a singing ventriloquist, like: Darci Lynne Farmer or Terry Fator. PLEASE
B stop this is Black experience in America
3 minutes in, and I realized how you're F'ing up a reaction. Sometimes a performance requires you to just listen, and then react. Don't bother responding to me, I've left the building. Btw, I love your red hair, and your accent. But, too much of anything is no good.
It would be nice to hear this song instead of your voice
Brian Wilson sang a song and butchered it and it was on so many faces
Hermoso hermoso
