    • @Kazerous
      @Kazerous Před 4 lety +117

      @@ianoneshot6231 if you mean in the same living conditions as contiguous united states natives, then no - not that I've seen. There are small towns that are majority natives, however there arent (to my knowledge) any reservations like youd find in the lower 48, and most natives live in major cities (like Anchorage).
      As well, the land holdings are entirely different, as tribes DO own and control land, but those lands are usually used as a means of either preservation or resource gathering/selling. Ultimately, at least for my tribal affiliations, how the land is used is up to the tribal leaders, but they'll ask all members to vote on land / money policies.
      I think the largest difference is how we deal with income. Each member of the tribe has a certain number of shares of our tribal companies holdings, and based off of those we get dividend checks mailed out - the amount changes based on how many shares we own and how well our tribes companies are performing, and we can pass those shares on to others when we die.
      As far as prosperity and education go, well it's just like any other group. You'll find some people who are very well off and highly educated, and others who aren't. There are a ton of opportunities for natives in Alaska to continue their education and find high paying jobs, however some don't feel like they need to and are content with living off of the dividends they receive. Personally, I moved out of Alaska as a child, joined the military and worked in intelligence after high school, and am currently pursuing a degree in cybersecurity. Conversely, I have cousins that still live at home with their parents. So it's really dependant on the person and their aspirations.

The students are at fault for not wanting to learn and the school system is also at fault for having a flawed system.

      @@anonymousperson3023 I was never making an absolute statement, at least not intentionally. The point is this: For the (at least) 10 years you spend in school, the results are atrocious. And since school is being forced upon you by physical force, they have a moral obligation to make good use of your time.
      A lot of the unwillingness to learn is also the fault of schools, by making it not interesting and just making it seem like an end in itself. People who do good at school, dont do it because of interest but because of pressure, be it from parents or society as a whole.

    Can confirm that once you start looking into fungi, they become probably the most interesting organisms on the planet. It can be argued that civilization was built around them in a way. And if I remember correctly, the largest living organism is a honey mushroom in the Pacific northwest that's 3 miles in diameter. Hallucinogenic mushrooms aren't making you hallucinate, but they're making your eyesight more efficient than your body can take. Hunters would nibble a small piece of them so that they had a temporary buff to eyesight during the hunt. Mushrooms are fascinating.

    Honestly I think the rule that’s supposed to prevent dark skin is an actually acceptable belief. Obviously nowadays it’s not kosher, but think about it; none of the Inuit have dark skin. Nowhere in their genes is there dark skin, they’re not African. Dark skin is made to work well in the sun, to prevent sunburn, etc etc, so it makes sense that paler skin works better in the colder regions. A dark skinned baby would likely find it much, much harder to survive in the arctic regions the Inuit call home, so I don’t really see a problem with that whole rule, if that makes sense
    Obviously nowadays that isn’t really an issue since we have like, heaters and shit lmao

    • @Kimmie6772

      In cold environment people with darker skin have more trouble getting vitamin D. Having paler skin means less of a barrier for sunlight absorption. I don't know enough about the cultural context to know if theres any yikesiness involves with how that belief is implemented though.

      @amberjewell3894 Před 10 měsíci +3

      My immediate thought was how severe frostbite can result in blackened, dead skin. Not something you'd want your baby to be born with. Also as someone else pointed out, lighter skin absorbs sunlight more easily and is better for surviving cold climates while darker skin is more resistant to sunburn and better in warm climates. It's interesting.

    • @doodlesyoru2108
      @doodlesyoru2108 Před 10 měsíci

    My anthropology 101 teacher studied the Inuit and the Viking settlements in Greenland for 5 years, and the thing she can't stop talking about is how true hunter-gatherer cultures, like the Inuit, don't fight wars the way even tribal nomads do. When populations get that small in regions were the environment is that hard to survive in, everyone tends to work together. People who try to steal or horde or etc. die off, because hoarding just means less people hunting the next year, and that kills the parasites as well as the host.

    About the whole cutting the breasts off thing, I read an interesting guess in a comment section of another vid that said that it's related to the fact that the breasts foster life. The sun doesn't foster jack shit in the Arctic, it's more like a fiery ball of rage (hence Alina's rage) scorching down on you and/or blinding you when you look at it enough.

    In 1951, the Danish government removed 22 Inuit children from their families in Greenland and took them to Denmark. The plan was to immerse them in Danish culture and teach them the Danish language so they could grow up to form a new elite and take leading roles in Greenland's society.
    thats how they came to be in denmark.

    Theres a Polynesian myth like that too, the daughter gets thrown into the ocean and when she tries to climb back into the boat he cuts off her fingers. Her fingers become whales, seals, sea lions and walruses; her blood becomes the fish and crustaceans I believe I cannot remember how to spell her name though.

    Mr terry is kinda like my teacher, (I'm doing media studies that's why we were watching a movie) we were watching a movie, then said he had to do some work, 5 minutes later he leaves to go find someone, and on his laptop is youtube. Pretty important work if you ask me. Surprisingly, he was watching someone I watch as well. Other situations this guy found himself in was beating up a guy so badly that his face needed to be fixed, police didnt arrest him because turns out the guy with a mashed face tried to spike the teacher's friend's drink. And he also knows someone who streams to simps. And a member of a political party here in england (I assume he just helps the MP with things), also owns a business, (final "and"), and has a youtube channel (The Lore Lounge, no this wasn't just one big promotion for his channel, just generally an interesting guy).
