Vainika-gayaka Ramana strikes again -- with yet another surrender-to-perfection[eMDeeyaaR-style]performance. Vijay Natesan is lucky to have been nurtured by the great TVG saar, my good friend. It was in 1985 when I was living with my wife and 3 yr old daughter Lakshmi in Queens, New York, when I met Shri TVG at a Manhattan, New York kutcheri [he was accompnaying late Shri TN Krishnan and his daughter Viji.] Soon after the kutcheri Shri TVG summoned me from the audience of about 25 people; he wished that he be taken to my apartment for a good night's sleep with a next morning's breakfast of idli, sambar, coconut chutney[I, a Nair, call it Nair Thenga Chammanthi] and podi. My dear wife, Sushee[la], was doing the thrid year residency in Medicine in Manhattan. I told her about the surprise guest; she had for some reason had idli batter made that very morning that would be ready to be made into idlis at a moment's notice. By the time Shri TVG and I reached home, about 15 minutes drive in my 1985 Chevy Celebrity at around 8 pm Sushee was ready with a light meal of rice, curd, aviyal,pappadom and mango pickle. A supremely relaxed Shri TVG went to bed around 10 pm. When I woke up at 6 am, Sushee was busy with idli and smabar; TVG saar was deep into his prayer/meditation in our tiny pooja room in the corner of our living room in that tiny 2 bedroom apt. His prayer yielded the best idlis; Saar enjoyed them to his musician- heart's content. Later, on that Sunday, by 11 am the three of us and TVG saar with 3 yr-old Lakshmi in his lap drove to Cambridge, Massuchusetts for that night's recital at the MIT huge auditorium. Prof Gurumoorthy of the Mechanical Engg Dept greeted us. Those were glorious times for a music lover, me , who is now a septuagenarian while TVG saar is every bit healthy clost o 90!! May he hit 100. Yes, this is indeed a very nice concert. The audio is not optimal, however; the lower frequencies, particularly, are overloaded. For whatever reason, Indian audio guys keep the gain too high and also set the recording to 0 dB instead of the recommended -6dB that makes a big difference. 1. "Ganapathiye karunanidhiye", kharaharapriya/adi/papanasam sivan; 2. " Ananda Nadamaduvar", Purvikalyani/Rupakam/Nilakantan Sivan. 3. Ragam/Tanam/Pallavi, kanada/misrachapu (may be the composition of the artist). 4. "Poonguyil koovum" Kapi/Adi/Kalki-Krishnamurthy.

It is a function more to propogate the memory of Kalki Krishnamurthy. Speakers full of nostalgic memories could not cut short their speech. Rasikas had to be content with a shorter kutchery.
