Anyone who thinks this song is just okay is missing the entire message. It also has historical significance. Bono and the Edge don’t write to entertain they write to educate.
"Early morning. April 4. Shot rings out in the Memphis sky. Free at last. They took your life. They could not take your pride." Shout out to Martin Luther King Jr.
The song is about MLK, but he wasn't shot in the early morning like the song says. He was shot in the evening. Bono now sings "in the evening" when performing the song after mistakenly writing "early morning" into the song.
True MLK was shot at 6:01pm Memphis time . 7:01 pm here in Washington D.C. were I live. This band is from the United Kingdom, The time there was 2:01am.
Thanks for watching! This is Rob, the R in RMK. I had recommended this song to Myles and mentioned it was about MLK prior to his reaction, but I don't think he realized what I meant. To his credit he is familiar with the reference to Memphis. In his youth his family went to the Lorraine Motel and paid their respects to MLK.
Yep it’s about MLK and his assassination. This song really put U2 on the map, this was their huge hit that sent them on the trajectory to superstardom. U2 is one of my favorite bands as just picked up their RSD release on Saturday. This song is on the album The Unforgettable Fire, the prelude to Joshua Tree, one of the best albums of all time. My favorite U2 song of all time, and one of my favorite songs by any artist of all time, is called Bad, on the Unforgettable Fire. I dont think Bad was ever a single, but in the U2 fandom Bad is considered a fan favorite still almost 40 yrs later.
@@Starbuck-dr7yl It's not just about MLK but about all of history's martyers. Early on, he sings of "one man betrayed with a kiss," a reference to Judeus Iscariot, one of Christ's 12 discicples, who pointed out Jesus to the Jewish authorities by bestowing a kiss upon him.
How's the form mate? Hope you are grand now, try 'Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me' and 'Mofo' by U2, blessings from bubblin Dublin Ireland brother yeh, God bless you mo chara 🇮🇪🤝🇺🇸
I love the music, the message of the Song and the singing. But i also respect you own opinion of it, that is how a real reaction has to be !! You aint looking for likes like so many others who do reaction Videos, i like that ;-)
I'm sure that this has been said many, MANY times, but this guy has completely missed the point of this song. It has absolutely nothing to do with romantic love, or the result that being prideful has on that kind of love. Were we even listening to the same song? o.0
Did you even know what the song was about when did your reaction? It doesn’t seem like it. It seems like you just added an MLK reference to this video’s title after the fact. Disappointing.
