I think the two manufacturers under the most threat here are Ford and Isuzu. Toyota has the miners and farmers stitched up, where as Isuzu and ford are mostly private purchases. Though I hope the Tasman doesn't become the new tailgaters ute...

What about the BYD ute? It will also take away from Ford/Toyota/Isuzu/Mazda. My first car was a Toyota and I was bagged for having a Japanese car over a Ford or Holden. Japan became the new Australia. Is China and Korea the new Japan?
Boxy and tuff maybe but this design doesn’t gel. Front is interesting but sides too slab-by….Disappointing effort from Kia who are normally pretty cutting edge. Sure it will be popular though with buyers who love the worlds most stupid design genre - the 4 door Ute
Thats true the dual cab utes are now the new family car very more practical , imagine if the kia ute came with a front solid diff gee that would be a game changer with the 4x4 world in little utes
If you have to pay prices like the Dmax they will lose a lot of sales if you ask me. I'm still thinking of getting one of the cheaper ones, waiting for the JAC model what is coming soon
Kia are going about this vehicle in completely the wrong way. Aussies don’t want to see international backgrounds in promo material. We want to know it’s being flogged off road on recognisable places. They are not building trust for the ute market. They seem to be trapped in an echo chamber separated from the people they want to win over. If someone wants an off road dual cab they will want winches, bars, lights and canopies. I am a Ki owner and I love the car I have but this thing is being treated as a joke amount the Ute community. Kia is going to get eaten alive with it. It also better not have the traction and drive train from a Sorrento. Thats fine for the SUV, but the traction system is lacklustre in n proper off road conditions.
Dosnt matter how ugly it looks people still buy the other ugly brands too off every thing , its cheaper stuff they live with it and take a chance good 4 them because its new and has a warranty , personally id rather have a 30 year old landcuiser , but thats my choice

KIA doesn't deserve the respect of coming out with a Pickup Truck or Ute end of sentence.
If expected with an underpowered 4c bi turbo without at a least a pre order 6c at launch to compete with VW and Ford it's doomed.... 😥 to start with.
