Not boss souls
May not work on PC
1. Have 999 of an item I use arrows as they're cheap
2. Place the item you want to duplicate(the soul) in the SECOND slot in your inventory
3.open the menu then select the arrows press drop 999 but then go back to the menu but not off the whole menu
4. The tricky bit! Go over to options and go on brightness but don't press it yet. VERY QUICKLY hit the enter button and R1 this will take loads of attempts probably
5. If you've done it right then you'll see the inventory and brightness screen at the same time.
6. Now press down once then press enter to select the item
7. Finally press down 4 times and select quit game, instead of quitting it will give you the use item menu so press use 999 and now you're rich!
*had one report where this apparently stops working after a while, hasn't happened to me but just a potential warning! - Hry

I've seen and used a few of these guides and while the rest are good this one hits the nail on the head perfect explanation of the timing and even putting the soul in the second slot not the first made this so much more simple to follow cheers 😃
For anyone struggling like i was. Don't go into the brightness menu! Press X on it then R1 right after. Works every time for me now. I was really struggling.

Works as of 01/31/2021, for PC however u must have a controller and a mouse once you glitch the menus to the options, quit game part use your mouse to hover over quit game and use the controller to acceapt itll give u the use item out of 999 the thing that fucks it up is the extra "key settings" for pc on the menu

I just tested it with the biggest "normal soul" (soul of a great hero) and it does indeed work.
note: there are only two of this soul. one in Lost Izalith in a chest, and another will spawn in the room where you first encounter Seath after you defeat him.
I tried it for the first time today, and it worked like a charm. Took me about a dozen tries before it finally clicked. I'm a Dark Souls veteran, but this will completely reinvigorate the game for me. No more grinding for stat minimums to use certain weapons or spells. I'll be able to roll up a new build as soon as I can buy cheap arrows. Thank you very much.

Ahhhhhh another (self proclaimed) dark souls veteran yes yes the one that unplugs when you lose an invasion yes the one that watches tutorial videos and how to vids. Oh yes total vet I think not. Real ds players that are actually good don't have to state that there was a wholelotta insecurity in that self proclaimness I'll tell ya what.

Wanted to add that, on Xbox, if you hit “A” slightly before “LB”, it works almost all the time within 1-3 attempts. There seems to be a slight delay on X as well.
Also, drop any duplicates of souls BEFORE using one or you’ll use ALL of the ones in a bunch instead of getting however many you have. So drop all but one of any duplicate souls so you can use each on once or you’ll use all of that type at once.
I did something wrong and it used my soul without giving me any souls... so be wary of that
Are you saying that instead of hitting RB + A when we get to “Brightness,” that we should be hitting LB instead?

yeah I had 7 souls but instead of getting 7x I only got 1x duplication, sad

Yo this glitch still works, thanks for the help! A little tip if your wondering if it worked is keep an eye on the words in the top left. They will overlap and look weird if you did it right

Hey im on xbox and im having some trouble doing the glitch
When I press ok under brightness it doesnt bring me to the quit game screen, it brings me to the use item screen for the soul

Thanks man. I probably never would have finished the game of it wasn't for this guide. I never got very far and always gave up, now I can appreciate this games beautiful world and story! I was able to build my character to where the game was the perfect balance of challenge for me.

Can confirm that it still works as of April 23rd, 2021. I'm on PS4. Also, the soul you have in slot 2 determines how much you get in souls. That was a question I was wondering about and I got my answer. I really appreciate this guide man. It was a blessing!

I know this is an older video but thanks so much for a clear version of this, makes it super easy for me to get to that Ideal stat distribution to where I can drop gear and actually do fashion souls..As a Faith main I really like to use something other than the dang maggot so with this you’ve helped a ton as the damage percent is fairly negligible now!

Took me a few minutes of attempts, but still works as of August 2020! This is going to be one interesting playthrough maxing levels right after arriving in Lordran!
TIP on SWITCH: Sometimes it won't allow me to put the soul item into the second slot of my inventory. If this happens to you put it in the fourth slot instead and on the brightness screen when both menus are open hit the down arrow three times instead of once and it will go to the fourth slot where your soul item is in your inventory and you will still be on the "OK" button on the brightness menu.

Works as of Aug 27 2020. However i was having a problem using PC w/ xbox controller. At the last menu going down to quit game, only go down 4 with the controller then use the mouse to highlight quit game. Then use the CONTROLLER to click on it and then the rest as said in video.
This definitely works. Did it a few times today. One caveat is have your mouse at the bottom of the screen, if you highlight anything else besides quit game it won't work and will say quit instead of use items.

For those who are experience problems with the second slot after many glitch exploits,simply go to the second slot in the menu,press X or A depending on the plataform,then press on “reset order” right below change order.That should fix it.

Awesome! It's such a good game but I won't forget you kicking my ass so much in ds3 gael.
Be aware that this does not work exactly the same with the XBOX controller on PC. I was having an issue where it was selecting drop for me instead of Use item.
To fix this I had to click down 4 times on my dpad so you are on PC Settings and then use my mouse to move down to highlight quit, then I was able to get it to select USE and not DROP.
Make sure you have your mouse in position over the "Quit" option already so all you have to do is twitch it slightly to highlight it.

I can get to the 999 part where quit game is in the backround, but everytime i click ok it quits out of the game and takes my soul.

No problem! You might get a few problems finding people as online is matched on level and not many people are super high leveled

You lose the original soul item in the process, i.e. you used 1 “Soul of a Great Hero” to do the glitch. You will lose that 1 “Soul of a Great Hero” but you’ll obviously get 999x that single one you sacrificed.
Not as good as original Ds1 soul duping but still a great trade off if you ask me.

03/2021 still working, at first it wouldn't let me but after updating worked like a charm. Started a new build and ended up one shoting Taurus Demon like he was a hollow. Gonna have some fun with this build, thank you!

@@louissampole7319 There are other exploits for the ps3.The bottomless Box has a sort of dupe,Frampt also,take a look.They are little bit harder to do,but they have not been patched and probably won’t anymore.

I did the inventory glitch but it only takes me to the soul menu instead of system so I can't do the quit game part

Still works as of July 2021, plus you can use it repeatedly with every soul you picknup apart from boss souls. Its not a 1 time only thing. Just did it with all my pickup souls!

In my main menu i have to press 5 times down to go from Options to Quit Game (there's a "PC settings" option that you don't have), and i'm guessing it makes it so i'm selecting "drop" instead of "use" on the items menu. The result is that i drop my souls while quitting the game, instead of consuming them and remaining in game. Any fix around that?

I found that it helped me to nail this glitch on switch by pressing B and R and repeating this until I see the item menu appear behind the brightness menu. You can see through the menus slightly. If you do not see the item menu behind it, then it didn't work.
