I've been using photos from public domains. Kudos my friend.

Amazing , thanks
Paul, I LOVE your tutorials! I may now need to invest in AI and it is something I should have done a long time ago. I am over the whole vector image thing, can't seem to make it work for me. I like this much better! Thank you. :-)
Think about something cheaper but just as good like Affinity Designer #IHaveNoSkinInThisGame
#FatDad #Canberra #Australia 🦘🇦🇺🦘
I have my 1st fiction story published and 9 journals and log books thanks to u. I just started with the journals this week. Thanks man. Cheers!
Congratulations. That’s great! Best of luck with sales.
@@paulmarles thank you. As we speak I have 11 books made now with new ones on the way this week. I am still waiting on reviews to be settled with so they can be on the market.
@@slasher0630 how's going ur sales ? Did u make any sale?
@@georytv5851 yeah. I changed course. I dont make journals anymore. I write fiction and im doing slightly better with it
Great tips Paul and thanks. I'm using Inkscape for my vector drawing and most of my POD graphics, so I'll see if they have the same tools as AI for these tasks.
👍
Thanks for this great tutorial. The video was a great, hands-on practical demonstration.
(And @Marjo - regarding what is cheap or of value - the book-buying market determines that, regardless of how many hours an artist put into a piece.)
Exactly. 👍
You're awesome!!
Thank you so much for great Video
You’re welcome.
Thank you very much
a true master u are great video thanks
You’re welcome and thank you too.
Nice gift for my birthday! ;)
Thanks for this Paul... Do you have a video of creating a colouring book with your own artwork? I have heaps of drawings that I have created on procreate that I want to compile into a colouring book. I have watched a few of your vids, but can't seem to find one that shows how to move content from one to another. Unless I have missed it completely x
Awesome sir🙏
Thank you. 👍
Ok this is pretty awesome, I'm following right along with Illustrator open on my PC, this is fun! :D

You’re welcome 👍
🙏🏼thank you so much
You’re welcome b
Muchas gracias Paul por el contenido de valor que nos brindas, una pregunta no habría problema con derechos de autor por usar una imagen como elemento principal del libro? agradezco tu respuesta
Great sir
Thank you so much! I can't wait to try this. I have had Adobe Creative/Photoshop added to my new laptop, but have not learned anything on it yet...so just some tips on the simplification of the process is help enough. It's a blessing for those of us stuck home a lot to be able to produce work from videos like this. Blessings!
I love you channels
Thank you 🙏
Sounds like Michael Caine. Very informated and informative.
Loving your videos - just found them and been watching a bunch. Question - is the 'bleed measurement' correct for us to punch in for an 8.5 by 11 inch book? Asking b/c in the beginning you said an 8 by 11.5 inch book and wondering if that was just a verbal mistake - or maybe I'm missing something in the way the book is generated in KDP with the spine, etc. Thx.
It was a verbal mistake! 🤦♂️
great thanks
I appreciate your effort, however, I personally would never buy a coloring book at this quality.
Edit: I just watched a couple more vids this morning and they were excellent. After coming back to this video, I need to correct my statement above, because it wasn't 100% accurate. First off, you're showing us techniques, not selling us a book. Secondly, there are some great techniques, and a bad one or two, which led me to my initial statement... but, again, you're not trying to sell those to us as books. And lastly, I think I'll stick around because you have some great advice overall!
Thanks Paul this opens up lots of possibilities. The problem now is I have too much content to create for books and not enough time. Have you looked at getting a Virtual Assistant to help with creating interiors?
Not for books. Some time ago I had virtual assistants creating content for websites that I was building. Website I used was onlinejobs.ph Not sure if it is still around.
Amazing video
Thank you 🙏
Wow! This is fantastic! Thank you very much!
I know well Photoshop but unfortunately nothing at all of Illustrator! I think I must start learning Illustrator too!
I have a question: if our target image is a B&W image i.e. of an animal, can you set the Black and White as Mode in the Image Trace window?
You convert it to Black and white.
Grazie mille!
You're welcome.
wanna like this video a million times!!
Don’t let me stop you 😆 Thank you for watching.
@@paulmarles Thank you Paul 👌
Keep up the good work 🤘🏻
Thank you, Paul, for this video. I have been having a hard time finding images for coloring books. Does this method work with Affinity Designer? I see it doesn't have Image Trace but I watched your other video with the workaround. Thanks again. Ok I tried to do this with Affinity Designer and Inkscape but am very frustrated. Could you make a video of how this is done. I have so many photos that would make lovely coloring pages. Thanks in advance. I love watching your videos!!
I use Affinity Designer all the time. You’re correct, it doesn’t have image trace but there are 3rd party tools like vectornator.
Thanks
You're welcome.
You’ve given me all the info I ever wanted and needed about coloring books! Thank you! Any chance we can get these instructions via Inkscape?! Maybe too much to ask! Lol You’re awesome!!! Thanks!
Thank you. 👍👍 I don’t use Inkscape at all but will try and look into it for the future.
check out logos by nick on youtube. He has some of the best inkscape tuts. to do what Paul has done today in inkscape you would use the PATH>TRACE BITMAP option. Play with the settings.
🤝👏 thank you
You're welcome.
This looks great- But, like you, I have moved to Affinity designer/photo. Could you do a tutorial on that software? Thank you! :)
Capt Paul. Great video as always and you are right about doing your owe due diligence images you use BUT this is a bigger subject and may I suggest a video in it's own right.
Each of our projects have a number of elements; the research; the book creation; the after publication in basic terms.
How do you manage all this information, do you have a method of storing all this stuff maybe a nested project folder structure. But returning to the beginning of this message if sometime later someone challenges your use of an image or suggests a breach of IP or TM, how to prove you did the due diligence?
I personally have a folder in my nested project folder structure to store this sort of information - screenshots of the license for each image with a linked thumbnail
Any thoughts ?
I’ll put it on my list.
Thankyouthankyouthankyou!
You're welcome.
Will I be able to do this in Affinity Publisher?
Amazing video Paul. I'd like to ask how to thin or thicken the lines. I've seen you have chosen "2 point" on the right was that the line thickness?
It's the stroke setting.
Paul (great name, by the way; it was my dad's name, it's my middle name, and my son's name), I'm just getting started with LCB publishing. Thanks for the great video training. I'm just wondering--why did you put the images into PowerPoint? Is that to download the whole document to a PDF file? Thanks!
This is amazing. As a colorist myself, I would find those images way too busy, a bit toouch like paint by number, is there a way to erase some more of the lines?
Yes, in vector editing software you can delete lines or whatever image components you like.
@@paulmarles thanks for the answe. I must try this then. I am so bad at illustrator.
Hi Paul Thank you for this video I really enjoyed it. I just want to ask you something, I got lost where you copied the lion to past to a background, is there a step I missed? My outlined lion does not have the inch border on the page and I am not sure how to copy and paste, I do not get that option.
Not sure what you mean. You press cmd c or ctrl c to copy and cmd v or ctrl v to paste.
Is this possible in other vector graphics editing programs ? For example in Corell Draw?
I don’t know I’m afraid. It should be although I had difficulty doing it in Gravit Designer.
Thank u Sir, u r excellent, i used 2 feel design by computer so complicated, but u make it easy. Sir, If am interested in jewelery design is it better 2 use adobe or graphic design or photoshop !, and which version !!
Adobe illustrator or affinity designer.
Thank you. How many books do you have in KDP so far?
Approx 2400
Can I use canva to create the design?
How’s the paper quality for coloring books on KDP? Do you upload a pdf just as a paperback format and select black and white?
Quality is pretty good. And yes, just upload a pdf.
