It only looks less stressful because you're not a local and only come here when travelling or just for retirement and thus not having to work. if you had to work from 8 am to 2 pm or from 9 am to 5 pm like most locals, you would feel the stress too. It's like me saying that Paris life is less stressful just because I only have been there while doing tourism and not working. The Canary Islands are 100% stressful, like any other region of the European Union, for locals. I say it as a local myself, who has a regular job from 8 am to 2 pm.

Thanks for the video! I've decided to move there this summer. I've been changing my diet away from meat, quitting smoking & just generally heading toward healthier lifestyle. Canary Islands seems like the perfect place to spend a year.

What a great video. I live in Taiwan and I’m getting so tired of this rat race here. Island is super beautiful but real estate is so expensive and I spend like over half of the money I make on tiny apartment. Every time want to go downstairs, it takes me like five minutes to wait for the elevator which makes me not even wanting to leave home… thankfully I’m in addition to being Taiwanese, I’m also Estonian which would come handy when moving to Canary’s.
As a matter of fact, I’ve never been to even mainland Spain but people keep telling me that it’s such a lovely place to live. Really makes me want to relocate.

@@jimcuchetto8552 take the university language program. They house you in Your own dorm room that looks great and have so many pretty Korean, Taiwanese and Japanese girls living around you.

I was actually born in the canary islands but people end up assuming Im not canarian and think I don't know how to speak spanish.
But little do they know I understand Spanish.
I was in a doctor's appointment and the doc said to me and my mom "How long have you guys been living in the Canary Islands?"(In Spanish)
I responded with "My entire life" because I mean- thats technically true.
That's the best when you can understand others without them assuming it.😂😂🤞

Most of my family are Irish with some of my dad's side being Welsh. (But the majority either reside in Ireland or are Irish. That sorta thing.)
And I completely forgot I made this comment two years ago until now and now this comment feels feels slightly cringy baha!
But what I was trying to say 2 years ago is that I was born in the Canaries from an Irish/Welsh family and Ive always lived here for my entire life.
Which is why it can feel a bit frustraiting when some folks think Im a foreigner or anything like that.

I visited Gran Canaria in January and it was hot from the moment we landed. Apart from the cities the entire Island was dry and empty, and the beaches were covered with volcanic ash. Overall, we had a great time, but I wouldn`t want to live there permanently.
Sure, everyone has their valid preferences. But it‘s strange that you say that the island is dry when there are so many forests.

Hi Tim, thank you for your great comment!🤗 Frankly, it depends a lot on your personality and personal needs. Do you prefer nature or the city life. Do you like Latin American Culture or prefer other types of cultures. It's hard to give a black and white answer to that. I love the Canary Islands because of the great weather, culture and relatively close distance to Germany. They are also quite save but definitely not to compare with big cities such as Mexico City. @@fruityevanutrition What do you mean by Hispanic American culture? Spain brougth its culture to Hispanic America, so you must mean Spanish culture. The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipielago and thus have Spanish culture. You mean the religion, architecture, lifestyle, law and language of the Canaries? All of that came from the Spanish that conquered the islands in the XV century, not directly from Cubans or Puerto Ricans. While in the Canaries they have an accent relatively simlar to that of the Spansih spoken in Puerto Rico or Cuba, that is the consequence of the massive migration of Canary Islanders to the Caribbean in the XIX century, not vice versa. Cubans adopted the Spanish accent from Canarians, not vice versa. So I don't see any "Hispanic American culture". The Canaries are like, say, the Balearic islands in Spain, just another Spanish region but surrounded by beaches.

I am waiting for the pandemic measures to subside before moving to Spain, it's always been a dream for me to live there, and I guess now is the time :) I am potentially thinking of buying an apartment there too, but I am not decided on the exact location yet. I like. warm temperatures, so I think I would enjoy the climate. I am torn between Malaga/Alicante and the Canary Islands. I am a bit concerned about not living in the mainland. Do the Canaries get lonely in the winter ? I am seeing that it may be a good idea to buy an apartment there, because it gets you a better deal for your money. Would you recommend it? Or mainland is where you would live for longer periods? Thanks!
Thank you so much for your comment! :) I would say that it is a very personal decision. For some people the Canary Islands work way better than the South of Spain and the other way round. I personally would highly recommend to first rent an appartment in the Canary Islands and see if you like it. I prefer Canary islands because the winter is way less cold but you also maybe have less cultural opportunities than in the south of Spain. Much love, Eva :)
be careful about internet antennas everywhere on building roofs. Spanish people love to have internet antennas everywhere, I rented a flat a few weeks ago in Catalunia, walking in the street I saw antennas even on top of houses' roofs! You end up having a massive headache and cannot sleep nor think. Watch out for that.

Can't wait to be able to leave UK. No one allowed to move, full lockdown atm. Tenerife is my favourite place in EU. I spend at least a few months a year there last few years. Cheap to travel, good internal public transport, the best weather. Excellent fruit. I like fruiteria Los agaves and the farmers markets

Great question! :) I think it really depends which job you get. In the tourism industry I can imagine that German is extremely helpful. I would say German is helpful but not a must.☺️✌️

Would you say it’s important to speak fluent Spanish to live there?
To live long-term I would say yes. Buz I would recommend that for any country you want to live in long-term. Short term: You don't need to speak it. :)

I think it depends what country you compare it to. I find it MUCH easier to stay raw vegan in the Canary Islands than for example Germany. Much better fruit and veggie quality. 😊🤙

Icelandic citizens are allowed to live and work in Spain, just as EU citizens.
