Muhammad Mokaev: 'I am not Khabib number 2' - from Dagestan refugee to UFC debut | BORN TO BRAWL

  • In the 6th episode of Born To Brawl, MMA fighter Muhammad Mokaev tells his story. From fleeing Dagestan as a boy with his father, to the challenges of growing up as a refugee in the UK, before finding a love of mixed martial arts.
Although from the same place with a similar fighting style and undefeated record to the iconic Khabib Nurmagomedov, Muhammad doesn't want to be compared to the UFC legend. He is keen to make his own unique mark in the sport and believes he can be the youngest UFC champion.
Muhammad Mokaev makes his UFC debut on 19th March against Cody Durden, which you can follow on the BBC Sport website and app.

So many guys taking Mokaev out of context. He said Habib set the ground for everyone but he has a different path of becoming the youngest champion and nothing is wrong with that statement. He is his own man and doesn't wanna be compared to others. He believes in his work, skills and tallent. C'mon he is just a teenager.

God bless this kid and his coaches. Refugee and loss of mother at age of 12, moved to a Country where he didn’t know the language. Living on welfare and in poverty. 99% of times, a disenfranchised child like Mokaev goes to lead a life of crime. Instead, this young man is doing incredible things. So much respect for him and his coaches that supported him. They the real MVPs. Giving children purpose and building their confidence.

if he didnt use khabibs name, nobody will know him, also you cant ever be like any of those guys from dagestan, you are a coward, thats why after 20 or so plus fights, you didnt get any attention and now used khabibs name for it.
