- Improved and more powerful versions of the CH-47 have been developed since the helicopter entered service. The US Army's first major design leap was the now-common CH-47D, which entered service in 1982. Improvements from the CH-47C included upgraded engines, composite rotor blades, a redesigned cockpit to reduce pilot workload, improved and redundant electrical systems, an advanced flight control system and improved avionics. The latest mainstream generation is the CH-47F, which features several major upgrades to reduce maintenance, digitized flight controls, and is powered by two 4,733-horsepower Honeywell engines.
A commercial model of the Chinook, the Boeing-Vertol Model 234, is used worldwide for logging, construction, fighting forest fires, and supporting petroleum extraction operations. On 15 December 2006, the Columbia Helicopters company of the Salem, Oregon, metropolitan area, purchased the Type Certificate of the Model 234 from Boeing.[ The Chinook has also been licensed to be built by companies outside of the United States, such as Elicotteri Meridionali (now AgustaWestland) in Italy, Kawasaki in Japan, and a company in the United Kingdom.
My Dad was a 47 pilot in Vietnam and beyond. I was privileged to sit in his seat when I was a kid. I live now outside of Ft. Rucker, the home of Army Aviation. Whenever I see a Chinook in the air, it gives me prideful goosebumps.
a view i see every day at work :)
The CH 47 is one of the best choppers going. I flew door gunner one a CH 47C in Vietnam and had 3 ships shot up. C/159th ASHB 101st Airborne Vietnam 1969-70
I also served in c/159th 101 airborne , but 74 -77 also had a b model!
I could use this as my live in trailer :-D
Impressive stuff. Thanks for the video. I love the board with all the messages !
Great tour! Remember sitting in those seats and keeping my eyes on the door gunners. If they were muzzle down and we were fairly level, life was good. Never been in one that quiet, before.
God Bless all of you! Thanks for keeping us free!
i wish the birds in my unit look that good XD
Is there a clip of a Chinook with the interior configured for commercial passenger flights?
I went to EAATS for 47 FE training it is such a great training facility, not to mention if you fall in the gentlemens course its even better lol. No PT, maids to clean your rooms in the billets and a 15 pack van at your discretion
That is a neat video and I noticed to my surprise the tail number of that ch47d is 00233. I was ASSIGNED as FLT.ENGNEER with the 180th Ashc in Vietnam onch47c tail number 68 16019 it was a new AIRCRAFT ,I stayed with her from May 1970 to February 1971.This AIRCRAFT was CONVERTED to ch47d 91 00233 .This AIRCRAFT has a long record of service, it even spent 2 years with air America before it came back to the states.
My daughter Flys these birds. I got to crawl all over the ch 47 an sit in the cockpit . It is awesomeness 😎 🙌
Daughter ahhh?
Crashed in the treeline outside of LZ Dot, Vietnam being transported in one in one from Phouc Vinh, flown by the 242nd Assault Support Company. Flight crew, Aircraft Commander heroes with both engines on fire.
I love to fly
I flew AS a FLT.ENGNEER on a SUPER C IN THE 180TH in Vietnam we could LIFT 10 tons the new AIRCRAFT can LIFT a LOT more than THAT. I flew 900 hours over there I loved crewing the ch47c.
I got shot down in one of those from 2000feet altitude by STAHSM my chinook spiral down to the ground, fire ingulf the helicopter thanks GOD I was saved to lives through that crash.
Thank God you are ok. How do you survived? Does the chinook gently glide down or drop down from the sky? Are you on the impact crash seat? Do your back hurt?
1:23 can I use this part for a little green screen edit stuff
one day i want to design a Vertical Take Off and Landing version of the chinook with double the armor , and can carry a tank along with a full compartment of troops , that would be both effective and amazing
You and what engines and fuel?
@@rat_king- yeah i researched the topic and came to the conclusion that such a goal was likely not possible with current technology. I havent yet given up though
@@justsomeamerican2301 Eh i have better solutions and its decidedly more winged
Just use 2 Ch53E and weld together both end of the cabin.
I miss my bird
I think some of these air frames are over 50 years old now some are close to 60 years old they were a b and c models CONVERTED to d models the one in this video is about 53 years old it was CONVERTED from my ch47c I was ASSIGNED as FLT.ENGNEER to in Vietnam serial number 68 16019 it was CONVERTED to a d model in 1991.That AIRCRAFT has a lot of history.
When will they make the Chinook a fly by wire helicopter?😳
Cat got you're tongue
Its too bad their putting these chinooks to sleep, it would be a great air bus to vegas & other fine gambling establishments. Heliports working around the clock while reducing huge Gas usage on these giant planes availbale for everybody..maybe?
I think maybe the air frames are getting to old that one in video is 53 years old it was CONVERTED to a D model in 1991 it was originally a ch47 SUPER C serial number 68 16019. I was ASSIGNED as FLT.ENGNEER on that ship in 180TH in Vietnam it was new when I was ASSIGNED to it, that aircraft has covered a lot of territory. Vietnam, THAILAND, Afghanistan. They did sell quite a bit of them to civilian operators and I believe that they sold some to the Canadian Air Force and maybe some other governments .I would guess that the new G and F models are so advanced that it might not be cost effective to keep them flying they have been used a lot they are very expensive to maintain.
There is nothing rare about looking inside of one, airshows are full of them plus anyone can get on the Army base here and a sk to look inside one...not really rare!!!!
chinook Apache then Hezbollah will became name America helicopter
Not going to happen! U.S. helicopters are named after American Indian tribes, not terrorists groups!!!
