    Here here to the RalphAstley shout out. I think I listened 3 times so far to that ‘epic’. You are correct in pointing out how great his conversations can be. I see he responded above…best wishes for your current health condition to clear up promptly Ralph!

    Thank you for your kind words. It's very gratifying to hear that you have spent thirty hours watching one of my videos. I came across something written in the early 1980's on the subject of wargames rules that addresses the distinction between games and simulations and uses that very terminology. I may do a follow up video to read it out aloud or else I have a longer term project in mind where I can raise the matter again.

      I am currently trying to write down my thoughts on a phenomenon which you touched upon, which is the growth (or at least it seems to be growth) of historical wargamers who have little to no interest in the history they are playing.
      I think this is highlighted most prominently by Flames of War, and more recently Bolt Action, where players seem to be driven to play as the SS because rule more of than not favour them as elite, when in truth they were very much a mixed bag. This is also true on the allied side, with airborne and paras predominating because they play to the min/max proclivities of players who are coming from Warhammer 40k and such.
      I cannot help but feel that this phenomenon is also tied up in figure ranges, since the likes of Warlord will release not only a Heer range of Germans, but then a whole bunch of Waffen SS boxes as well, and those unit need to shift.

      @@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 Thank you so much. I am a subscriber of your channel and recently revived a 15mm Eastern Renaissance project having been inspired by your work. It will take me a long time to produce any army of the size of your own however.

      Well I appreciate you highly. My video was very long for me but maybe I’ll dedicate it to you. You’re a great chap and high in my book. Tomorrow I’ll throw up my Italian papal war army. Hope you’ll like it.

  • @thekrausecollection15mmmin53

    Fantastic update. I do have some suggestions to help you with a few of your comments. Let me know how I can express my opinions. But fantastic update thank you!!

    I would mount eight figures to your basis for the Franke oppression. Three of those bases make up a battalion and two battalions make up the regiment. That would be correct and look very good.

    • @ZenMiniPainting
      @ZenMiniPainting  Před 9 měsíci

      Yup, that is the current plan, however, my only concern is that those 50x25mm bases might take up a fair bit of table real estate. I believe you mount your 15s on 50mm wide bases? How does that shake out in terms of the unit footprint?

      @@ZenMiniPainting mine are all based on 40x40mm. All of my armies are on either 40x40 , 40x 60 or 40x80. Depending on what’s going on it. With later armies, 1800 or 1900 armies such as these, I have stayed with this convention. I can play with any rules with that actually.
      Question? Will you ever game with these? Or is it a therapeutic maneuver? This is an important question. You certainly do not want to get trapped like Ralph does owning 500 rule sets but playing hardly any. You know where I am going with this right. Whether the unit takes up 150mm or 120 is totally irrelevant. Most of my armies are for historical therapy and keeps me on the straight and narrow. No pun intended 😎

      @@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 I actually went back and watched your Hyphenated Wars videos on the French, Prussians, and Austrians, so that settle the basing issue for me, coupled with the above comment.
      I have decided to go with those spare 50x25mm bases I have, since I have them in quantity, and I won’t use them for ought else. I glued the first battalion onto the bases last night, 8 to a base, times three bases, and it looks quite good. I suspect I am overthinking the footprint, what is 30mm extra frontage in real terms.
      To answer your question, I plan to play with these figures. Rules wise, I will probably use Principles of War for the lower level command, and 1871 for the higher level command. My basing conforms to neither game standard, but I don’t think it will matter since I plan to collect all the belligerents myself as matched armies. I find it hard to coordinate collecting with friends in the main since some folks seem wedded to a certain ruleset and its basing conventions, when I really don’t think that the basing conventions are all that important, since I don’t collect to a ruleset but rather the army for its own sake, “exercitus gratia exercitus” one might say.

      @thekrausecollection15mmmin53 Před 8 měsíci

      I like your approach, and I would agree with you. You don’t need a big army, but collect both. In your case, a good division on each side would give a really nice battle for for a flank, a farmhouse and or crossroads.

  • @thekrausecollection15mmmin53

    If you buy a flesh contrast paint, that would do you very well. I can suggest either army painter or Citadel. Just the contrast for crusader flesh. You will thank me later.

    • @ZenMiniPainting
      @ZenMiniPainting  Před 9 měsíci

      How do you find the contrast paint shows on a black undercoat with mid grey highlight for the flesh?

    • @thekrausecollection15mmmin53
      @thekrausecollection15mmmin53 Před 9 měsíci

      @@ZenMiniPainting well contrast paints can be used in such a manner. Over light grey dry brush fine. It will give you the depth and shade you want on the faces. I think one bottle is 4 Canadian dollars. I think for what you mentioned in your publication this might be your answer. I use it now for mine but because I’m anal I still give it an extra highlight effect.
      Mind you! It’s just a kind suggestion to give you yet another additional tool in your already veteran tool kit. Btw. Like your bases.
