Los angeles has a bad public transport
Im from Argentina. For 3 years I had to take a bus, a train, the subway and another bus to get to work. 6 days a week. Almost 5 hours of public transportation a day, the good ol´days LMFAO

Typical for the ridiculously urban-sprawled insanity that is Los Angeles and their abysmal investment in public transportation. She more than deserves that raise. Not owning a car in the western hemisphere is utter torture.

Honestly at this point, Charlie should just buy her a car. Nothing flashy or fancy that would draw attention, considering her neighborhood, but something used and doable that runs good and has a tracking and alarm system so she can be notified in case someone tries to jack it at night or something. Having her catch 3 buses after all she does for Charlie, kinda criminal.
That doesn't mean she would have the money to pay for the maintenance and insurance. Judging by how she describes her family it would be lost to pay bail or taken by someone her children were dating. Charlie isn't her only client. She works at different houses. Why should one employer by a housekeeper a car? So that they can clean the other houses that aren't your own? It is a considerable discrepancy or distinction that the wealthy who own beach houses in Malibu require domestic staff who have to bus it back and forth from their homes to these homes with a transportation system that is lacking. Lacking because the wealthy people driving Porsche or Mercedez don't take the bus and don't wish to pay more in taxes to support better transit.
@seanwebb605 well my mom is a house cleaner and she had a client front her 1500 so she could get a car. Given she had to clean "for free" until it was paid off, people can be willing to help their clients get vehicles.
this is a lot of people. My aunt did days work, sometimes she would call my Mom to help with dishes around holidays. paid good money for my Mom.

Berta should have been fired immediately for going into Charlie's wallet and taking money. Not only is that very disrespectful and a violation of his privacy, but that can easily be understood as stealing. That is an outrageous act to do to anyone, but doing it to your boss is well beyond the pale.

the thing is, who else is going to do her job?
They are more like close friends. No other maid is going to deal with his shenanigans and take care of him and he lets her walk over him sometimes because he is a manchild.
He is indebted to her a lot more than she is to him since she can just get another job maybe paying less with a better commute but it would be nigh impossible to find a maid to deal with the literal shit Charlie puts her through.
So while Charlie is technically her boss he isn't the dominant person in that relationship
