"The Cost To Love You"... there couldn't be a better title to a movie about DV. Those maternal instincts are strong and she knew she had to protect her baby because she loved that baby more than herself. She looked so much healthier & happier after she left.. that always happens, it's one of the benefits of living your own life again.

I was in 2 abusive relationships. One of those men was the father of my child, he forced me to have a child with him that I was not ready for. The abuse from both relationships is something I very rarely talk about, I almost feel ashamed to mention it so it becomes irrelevant. I somewhat feel happier now but I haven't learnt to forgive them or myself yet so I can properly move forward. Also one of the reasons why I've chosen to be single at this point in my life and celibate.
It's so much easier to focus on my daughter, my mum and myself rather than focus my energy on someone I'm in a relationship with.

Domestic violence. It's a power play. One person loves the other does not know what love is. They need complete control. Its so hard to endure abuse and noone deserves it ever. Its worse when they beat you to near death and the police prosecute them against your protests. You may even try to rescue your abuser and bail them out of jail after they nearly killed you because you love them. You love too much and they don't know how to love you the way you love them. I'm lucky I was saved by the police. God bless you all.

I have been single for 15 years after a terrible divorce. I have enjoyed every single second of it. It is not always rosy, but still I would not change anything. When I see men my group of age I freeze. When I meet married friends I feel so sorry for the women. And most of the time , there is something to be sorry for. There is nothing that can approach the joy and happiness of living independent, secure, free to be who you are, doing what you were born to do and be in the first place. Thank G-d for that!

Plus, often the abuse continues whenever the man has to visit his children or during custody exchanges, so she still has a lot of challenges to overcome in this situation.

I play these short films to my one who emotional and financial controls me. He says that's so sad. But he's not seeing himself. I'm not even allowed to go into the kitchen and make myself dinner. Instead he makes me toast and butter every day. I'm getting weaker and weaker but I keep covering up for him. Is that wrong? I so much get so hungry. But if I step in that kitchen it gets physical. He says I can't go in the kitchen because think's I dried a kettle out which is BS.😢

You're likely trauma bonded. He may be poisoning you or trying to drug you. Regardless, he does not love you. That's not normal and you need to leave ASAP. Don't tell him anything. Just go quietly. Then maybe dig into healing codependency or look into childhood trauma.
