Im viewing from New Zealand. Very nice Citroen CX Estate , we had these vechiles in limited numbers here. I like its predecessor the DS Safari too. I was 21 years young in 1981, when it rolled off the assembly line, im 64 now. Its been well looked after.

I ran several of these years ago, all high mileage cars, great to drive and more reliable than some other newer cars I've had.

Amazing car my dad had exactly the same car and color but the safari 5 seater model on a 81 82 x plate in the 80s. This really takes me back to my childhood of floating down the road in one of the most comfortable cars ever made modern cars do not compare speed bumps and potholes wouldn't even be felt at all. I would love to buy this if i had the cash and space for it unfortunately i don't 😢 but fantastic to see such a rare and special car they were even rare in the 80s and so many now have rotted away.

What a fantastic piece of 1980's motoring history. Yet another Citroën built way before it's time. The DS before the CX was a pure gem too
    🙂❤

I used to get my citroen done at M&m mororfactors Huddersfield and saved a fortune over main dealers. Spheres costed peanuts. My dad had 2 and they were brilliant incredible cars of their time, amazing to drive like no other

    What a fabulous, fabulous thing!
Love the CX so much, and this being an 1st gen makes it all the better. Those dials are just amazing!.
Couple of points, the Safari was different as it was a 5 seater with just the 2 rows of seats, the Familiale was aimed at bigger families with its 3 rows and 8 seats.
Also, at 8:43, the "2.3 CC engine" is mentioned. I'm pretty sure an engine that small wouldn't actually move the car🤣🤣(presumably it is actually 2.3 litres)

What a car , we've so gone backwards in car design haven't we ?

I had one of these many years ago. Semi-auto 2400. Fabulous car in every way, wifh a huge load deck when the seats were folded down. Quite a fast car too, and wonderfully comfortable. The closest thing to it these days is probably a mid 90s American station wagon. Or possibly a Cadillac SRX.

Very desirable. Extremely rare, even in France.
We seem to be stuck in a sea of bland behemoths all looking identical. No creativity whatsoever.
I love Citroën so much. The genuine ones that is (from the 1920s till early 2000s) not the crap they churn out these days

Seeing the odometer only goes to 99999 would the total mileage be 133732 which seems more likely considering its age and it having had three owners?

Tell you a story. Years ago my Citroen specialist independent garage man had a crashed CX GTI in. He told me what had happened. The owner was driving down from Newcastle to Southern England at night and had the car up well above 100 mph. Don't ask me how but he fell asleep and went into the back of a lorry. The rear axle of the lorry was knocked out and the lorry rear parked itself on his bonnet. By this stage he was wide awake. Locked together they came to a halt. He opened the door and stepped out unharmed. The size and strength of the car saved him. The CX has a chassis and the crash safety design was to fold the engine over onto its side instead of letting it come back.
I had a 70 mph head on in a GSA with a white van who was out of control as his suspension had collapsed and I could not avoid him. I came out alive with just a broken collar bone where my seat belt had been late in reacting. There was not a single straight panel left in the GSA but the design worked and saved the lives of my passenger and myself. The Blue light services could not believe how well the car had taken it and what it did to protect us from major injury.
I had several CXs including a Mk1 CX GTI which while not quick to accelerate would give a magic carpet ride at speeds that just don't happen on British A roads any more . Above 100 mph the venturi underbody would give downforce and glue the car to the road. Unless you actually explored the top end you would never really appreciate how good the car was. Unlike a coil suspension, which will soften with speed and thus become dangerous and thus has to be too firm at low speed on a performance car, (BMW me thinks for example) the Citroen system stiffens as you speed up and so you get comfort and safe control at all speeds.
What let them down badly was body rot and the later problem of porous liners on the diesel versions. A petrol engine one if cared for could do 300k miles.
