- Van Conversion - In this video I give a tour of what we’ve done so far in the loft and kitchen areas including the fridge slide out, which doubles as a bench seat.
I am currently converting a 2018 Ford Transit van into a camper to serve as both a living space and an art studio while I travel. Once the van build is complete I look forward to sharing my seasonally nomadic vegan lifestyle and van life adventures.

I wondered about the problem with your fridge doors opening up if you were to switch them around and open up the other way I am going to build my system just like yours so I haven’t run into that problem yet thanks

Thanks! We measured 135" to the bulkhead wall and 138" to the emergency brake, which is about where the seat belts are. Its a 2018 Ford Transit 250 Long wheel base.
Hi Guys. I want to do the same thing with my dometic CFX95 refrigerator/freezer. How are your slides working out and where did u get your slides? The CFX95 is quite heavy when full and I’m looking for someone who actually used in a design with the pull out horizontally and on passenger side. Thanks for really great content. The slides are working out great so far! We got them on Amazon. I have put a link in the description. We have the CFX75 fridge, but I think these slides would work just as well with yours. Happy you've enjoyed the videos. :)

Thank you! Kevin really deserves credit for the woodworking. He has done some projects around the house, but just thinks of it as a hobby. He gets a lot of help from watching how-to videos here on CZcams.
Your layout is fantastic and your build quality looks so neat and tidy. I love that kind of precision. I take it you're happy that your fridge is robust enough to serve as a seat. I love the idea, but part of me would worry about the strain it would take after a hundred sittings. Is this something that concerned you?
Thanks! Yes, If I used the fridge regularly as a bench I would be concerned. When Kevin is with me we use it as an extra seat at the table. If it becomes an issue over time it will be simple to add castors to the front that ride along the floor to give it extra support. It seems to be holding up well so far though with the limited use it is getting.

Wow, amazing build. What size is your transit? I'm assuming the tallest one. Is it also the longest?
another question. You say the slides can hold 500 lbs. I purchased the same dometic. I will not have the space you do, don't even have the van yet! But I am wondering if it is possible to build my kitchen in the back, with the slides coming out, i.e., there would be nothing but air under it when pulled out. Only to take food in and out. I realize this means I can only have an outdoor kitchen, but I may only have space for that setup. I kind of regret buying it now, as it is going to dictate the entire setup. I might have been better off buying 2 separate units to use as a fridge and freezer. Anyway, you know, they aren't cheap, so it is what it is. And I knew I wanted high quality food, which is why I bought it before even getting the van.
Thanks! My Transit is the long wheel base, not the extended. I think the slides would work for what you are wanting to do. There is nothing supporting mine when pulled out either. It seems very strong.
Do you have the dimensions of the cabinet for the Dometic? We have the exact cooler and your cabinet seems to be perfect for what we are trying to do. Thanks!
We left a cabinet opening that was 36.5w x 21h x 23d and the drawer was built with the interior dimensions being 33.5w x 19.5h x 21d. The facing on the drawer is larger than these dimensions to allow for overlap. I hope this helps.
What did you all decide to do for cooler cord management? We also want ours to pull out, but we don't want the cord to get damaged from the constant moving in and out
We have it plugged into an outlet on the wall behind it. It doesn’t seem to put any tension on it so it has doing fine.
Which of the plugs that came with the fridge are you using to plug it in? Are you using the AC plug or the DC plug? Or did you connect it straight to your distribution panel?
I’m using the DC plug. We installed both a 12v cigarette socket plug (wired directly to distribution panel) and a 110 outlet behind the fridge. so we have the option of using either plug.

Hey how did you guys keep the fridge slide from moving the fridge in and out while you are driving?
There are pins at the floor for when I'm driving or on a slope. You can see it here at (12:40) czcams.com/video/_rOSKRCthAQ/video.html Also there are two magnet latches at the top.
Oh nice! That helps a lot we have been using sandals lol. Do you have links for the pins ? And the things holding the pins ? I didn’t see it in list unless I’m overlooking something
@@ibrahimpashaei2322 Thanks :) This video has the links in the description for the bolts and Kayak loops. czcams.com/video/3QRtjhImqhk/video.html At 3:50 we show how we did these. We had to cut the bolts and fabricate the metal plate. They have worked out great.
Hi Cindy. What are the dimensions of the loft? Are the three sections sized equally?
The back of the loft is slightly curved. It is 5’7” at its longest length. The width is 5’6” . Each section is 22” wide, however the left and right sections go under the wall boards and have the furring strips attached to them, we actually cut them 2” wider to allow space for that. @@ArtfulOutdoorAdventures Yes, thank you. I was wondering because you sleep front to back but when Kevin’s with you you sleep side to side. I’m 5ft 5in, just trying to work out if I could sleep side to side. It sounds tight!
@@MamaKim. I think Kevin is about your height and he feels is a little short for him. He sleeps at slight diagonal.

Hi! Could I please ask how deep your cabinets are to house that fridge? I'm thinking of getting the same fridge, and love the idea of using it as a seat! Just need to figure out how deep to make the units and find some suitable rails (here in the UK) :)
Hi. I'm a glad you like the idea. It is always nice when something can serve multiple purposes isn't it :) My cabinet depth is 23 inches. We could have made it 22, but it would have been tight.

I don't understand why every person who does the bed section in a van build, don't do slats. If you use a flat area like that, you are looking for some meldew trouble. Thats why all bed frams are slated or open for the bed to breath. Y'all are going to spend money on a nice mattress, and basically throw it out the window.
I wont be keeping a full mattress in there. I would have built it differently. I would I agree that, if I were, there would need to be air circulation. Stay tuned. it'll all come together :)
Those were my thoughts but I wonder why you don’t get that problem with divan beds, no slats on those. I’ve followed Cindy’s progress and I understand why she made the loft floor solid. If she has a problem you can get some special matting to go underneath the mattresses for air flow.
