  • A sample chop and flip is using pieces of another piece of music to make your own. A classic technique used in a ton of genres. In this video we'll go over some of the ways to make a chop and flip a sample, using the Roland MC 707.

Would you consider going over the next step of turning this beat into a full song? I find that I often get short little beats such as this, but I then have trouble expanding it past this point. Loving these tutorials! :)

Quinn Thomas, pretty sure the OP is talking about turning phrases into the full composition of a song, not asking someone to tell them when their song is “done”…

Is there a way to treat all the chops as one. If I want to play around with different pitch its no option to change the pitch on 16 pads just to try out things. Or a way to select all pads and make changes to all of them at the same time. Also, can you set a drum track to mono instead of choke groups? Thats what I always to on mpc 1000.

Great chops! The flam on the additional snare was driving me crazy tho. The MC707 looks like a different approach to sampling than the Digitakt which is interesting.

The question I have is about the part where you switched patterns and mentioned that the choke was disregarded. That seems like an issue. Could you further clarify? It’s understandable if the sounds in the 2nd pattern are not on the same choke group, but did you say the ones on the same choke group were disregarded? In other samplers I usually trim the last sample precisely if I’m moving into chops in a DIFFERENT group in the 2nd pattern.

Hi Jeremy, love this one as much as the last. Have been extensively looking into sampling options and came across iPad apps which appeal to me. You dabbled in iOS music for a bit but didn’t really continue with it. Is there any reason for that? Downsides of iPad recording?
