I still shake my head as to how this show has basically replaced the old Top Gear as my go to car show and 12 yrs ago Robert was making it in his basement!
He should have stayed there.
@@Ijusthopeitsquick he's created something of value. Lots of things of value have been produced in basements
Top Gear? eh what is that
Top Gear spent years spewing anti electric vehicle nonsense. They literally had a pro fossil fuel agenda. I stopped watching them years ago because of it.
@@erikschmitt5262 I stopped watching for a range of reasons. General creeping nastiness being one. But agree they were very anti progressive to hybrids, completely fitted up the early Tesla.
More completely normal EVs is exactly what's needed.
Can't agree. I'm an Aptera reservation holder and my fingers are crossed they'll be able to bring an ultra efficient EV to market. And with the Aptera form will definitely follow function. ENiro is a great car if you need seating for four.
@@hndit2u the market needs normal evs even if that’s not what YOU are looking for
@@hndit2u I’m glad you’re achieving the things you need to achieve to get the stuff you want, genuinely. I on the other hand need a basic little family car with half decent range and fast charging. I’d even take manual windows if needed.
@@hndit2u i freakin love the aptera. So little electricity needed for moving decently fast. Solar trickle charging that actually makes a difference
But in reality very few are gonna want a 2 seater funky lookin thing like the aptera. Most just want a boring 4-5 seater that is cheap, efficient, quick charging and reliable

Car was keyed as we have a huge population of pricks amongst us.
I like this car very much. In fact I like it so much I’ve just ordered one as our second EV alongside our Tesla. It’s very well built, has every piece of tech you could reasonably want, drives beautifully and has an impressive range. A brilliant family EV and yet another entertaining and thorough review by Jack.
I know the Niro and Kona EV's are known and touted as efficient EV's, but having done approx 10k miles in my 2021 Kona EV i'm surprised this isn't something you hear more of. Currently averaging 4.3 m/kWh over that 10k with mostly motorway driving, much of which was done in Jan/Feb/March. A lot of reviewers seem impressed getting 3 m/kWh from much more expensive cars...
7Km (4,3miles) per 1KWh is fairly normal..
I agree. I have a Kia Soul , much under rated in my opinion, this summer I easily obtain 4.5 - 5m/kWh and a range of over 300 miles on mixed road driving. This will obviously reduce in the colder weather to come, but many of the more expensive EVs don't come anywhere near these figures.
@@ShrKhAan It doesn't seem to be in all honesty...
We have had our Niro EV for 1 week now with total distance 400km so far. We get 3,9m/kWh or 16kWh/100km. I think the 4,5…5m/kWh are unrealistic when driving not overly carefully and if there are climbs and faster sections (fast being a little above 100km/h or 62m/h. It was a cold week, heating was always on.
I would like a Kona EV over a Niro and when I have tested the Kona (Sep 22), I got 6.1mi/KWh on town/urban mixed, which is impressive and 4.5mi/KWh on a motorway trip.
When I tested a Model 3, the benchmark for efficiency, I only got 3.5mi/KWh so, yes I would say the Kona is super efficient.
Kia have seriously upped their game on design styling... The new logo is classy AF too.
Love Jack for not making a fuss about getting an entry-level car to review and instead being like “This is good for the viewers!”
€47000? On a budget? Family car? Do you guys live on the same planet as I do?

Glad it has a rear window wiper -unlike the EV6.
Shout out to the video, sound, & editting team on the video. The little driving sequence was straight out of a high end advert. An enjoyable compliment to Jack’s informative walk through :)
The design feature that I particularly like is the steering wheel! It's ROUND! None of this weird flat-bottomed malarky! All steering wheels should be round!
And it doesn’t have touch buttons. I love buttons. Stop removing buttons
I think the charge port on the front is brilliant but it's going to face the same kind of challenge as the classic 70s gas filler behind the license plate at the back: collisions. If the port's on the nose it makes it puts it at risk. While an electrical plug is less hazardous to have in the bump zone than an open gas filler neck, it will make it much easier to permanently disable.
The chargeport is nothing but a simple connector very easily and cheaply replaced.
And if an ev has been in a serious enough crash that it is properly destroyed it wise to not charge it anyway before the car is checked out.
So I don't see any real problem to be fair.
That's true. I wonder if it could go up higher in a recess in the bonnet.
Statistics in U.S. for auto accidents show the front of the vehicle is involved in the majority of accidents, followed by the rear of the vehicle. If I have a FWD only vehicle I would prefer the charge port have less chance of becoming compromised in a minor accident and still be able charge it if it's still drivable.
The Renault Zoe has had a front charge port for a decade with no problems.
Collision detection and auto breaking system is now mandatory on all new cars. I'm sure it still can be crashed but charging electronics is not at the same place as the port so even in the case of some bent metal it should be easy to fix
In your future reviews, do you think y'all could just briefly give a short PoV shot of the rearward visibility?
A lot of the modern cars - especially crossovers like the Niro - I've test driven in recent years, the two big problems I've had are visibility out the rear window, and head room (I'm 6'4"). It's like a lot of manufacturers are using backup cameras as a crutch so they can focus on the aero features and reduce the rear window size.
It's been bothering me quite a bit, and since I use your reviews to write my "cars I plan on test driving" list, it would be nice to know if I should even bother or if that rear visibility is so poor is becomes a deal breaker. Cheers!
Drive a van for while then you'll learn never to even try looking out the back window :-) Then it doesn't matter. I've never understood why people worry about this - I've not been able to look out the back window since 1992 and it's not been a problem.
I drive the Ev6 and I can tell you the rearview visibility is just fine for driving. The kicker is its not for reversing but that does not matter when you have a 360 camera and rearview cameras and the sensors to boot to assist in that area
@@Army2willis yeah I'm a stubborn bastard who doesn't like change, but maybe you're right and I just have to bite the bullet by learning to live with the cameras. My main concern is actually backing up, and like you said, the visibility ain't great for that in most modern cars. I just worry a little kid will run out behind me while I'm reversing and I won't be able to notice them...
It's the width of the A and B pillars that are more of a problem in a lot of modern EVs. The blindspots are unnecessarily large.
Reversing camera as standard. No need to test your neck flexibility.
In Germany it makes no sense to get the Niro. It's only 4000€ to the EV6. We wanted to get the Niro but where shocked how similar priced they are. For 4000€ you get a bigger battery, bigger car and a 800V system.
I had the same thought after watching this review. I was like, “I must be missing something here; this makes no sense.”
Good luck getting the ev6 though... currently in the UK it's late Q3 delivery if you order one today. Niro is still Q1 next year and was Q3 this year if you pre-ordered. Also 4000 euros is a lot to some people.
@@lendios764 you need to check the dealers. I called 15 and 1 had 400 ordered back in 2021. Had to wait 2 months. Ordered in Mai 2022 arrived in early July 2022. All the other dealers told me there is no chance to get one before July 2023.
Sure 4000 is ALOT also for me. Considering the resell value, get an EV6 on credit. You will have to spend less money in the end.
@@JulianLiebl Oh don't get me wrong, we own an EV6 GT line S aswell that we ordered early this year and got 2 weeks ago.
But the situation has gotten a lot worse, and all dealers within 250miles of me said the same thing unfortunately.

Thanks Jack. Your style and language has been improving in leaps nd bounds. Keep up the good work!
The Kia certainly looks better, and performs well. If I needed another EV, it would be high on my list for consideration. We're seeing real world range of 240 at motorway speeds to over 300 miles around town, from our ZE50, depending upon the amount of Lead in our right feet, and apart from the even slower recharging speed, nominally 50 kW, it suits us perfectly. Our economy meter is showing 6.2 miles per kWh right now, with daytime temperatures in the low 20's. I'd really love to test drive the Niro for a few days, to see what it can do with my mix of driving. It might attain more than 7 mi/kWh.
But the manufacturers that the Germans really need to be worried about are in China, not Korea. They've pretty much cornered the battery manufacturing market, and are doing the same with EV's in general. In particular, keep a close eye on BYD over the next 12 to 18 months. They've pushed VW into third place already, and are starting to challenge Tesla.
I admit being confused when someone tells me the new 'exciting shapes' at the front end of a car are much better looking than the old ones. If you told me the old one was the new design, I'd believe you.
Agreed, the new one looks ugly. It reminds me of the plastic Citroen.

My opinion is that there is a small difference regarding the price between this Kia and EV6. Maybe the latter is a better option.
Budget car !£36,000 + I don't think so.
Unfortunately for Kia, the MG4 just blew this out of the water in terms of value for money (and looks). The cheapest vesion of this 'budget EV' is £36,245 on the road (if you can find one). You get 285 miles of range and max 80KW charging. The MG4 SE Long Range is £8000 cheaper and you get the same range and 50% faster max charging (120KW) and they are shipping 20,000 of them to the UK in Q4 2022. If you can live with 220 miles of range the base MG4 is fully £10,000 cheaper than the base Nero (although that is alos 80KW charging onlyI think). But in any spec the MG4 looks (and apparently drives) much better.
As a Niro EV owner I can confirm that it is very difficult not to love this car. It just does everything well. And I'd like to stress that once in Sport mode (the ONLY mode I ever drive it in), it is properly quick!
I like that the lighting signatures match Jack's Vans.
🎶 "I need a Niro, I'm holding out for a Niro..... " 🎶 😊😊
If the two-tier boot/trunk means the same as it means on the 2020 and newer Soul EV, it refers to the ability to not only remove the floor, but to place it on a lower track. If so, you get to choose between more space or a floor that’s level with the opening.

I disagree with the placement of the charging port. Most of the damage in traffic (especially in cities) happen on the front and the back of the cars. This is the worst place, if they bump into it while parking (as my neighbor recently did with my car) the charging port can get damaged and you'll have no way to charge your car!!! You can wait a few weeks to get a scratch or dent repaired (most garages make you wait that long), but that's not possible if you can't recharge, right?
At least on the old niros the cover is plastic and it's placed a few centimeters behind the plate. You'd need a pretty bad crash to not be accessible anymore
I kind of disagree on that one. if it's a high speed accident then you will most likely have to tow it anyways, and if it's slow speed then it won't damage the charge port. And on top of that I don't think we should put the charger in a worse spot just because it might get damaged, but makes my everyday life a lot easier.
@@Lueeee as I said in my comment, my car was hit in the front by my neighbor, who has a military all terrain vehicle. A low speed crash was enough to damage my BMW X1 (already a sturdy car) in exactly the spot that port would be. I can tell you right now, the port will no longer open if that happens (imagine something hitting the side port of a gasoline car, that would be damaged too). It's not so much the charging outlet that will get damaged, it's the port itself. Also this: a front port is not easier for everyone. In my example, I need to drive my car fairly close to my garage workbench. It would be much harder for me to use a front port than a side port. So I get that some people find it useful, but to say as they do in the review that ALL vehicles should be made like that, is just plane wrong. What would be a practical solution, is to use 2 charging ports. As 2 electric charging ports is much easier to achieve than in a gasoline version (it's only some electrical wire), I think that's the way to go.
👆Let's talk now I have something new and profitable..to introduce ❣️.
With so many safety features like the Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, the designer must have thought through it and find that it is highly unlikely to have a frontal crash. Thanks to the designers.
Front is definitely the right place for the charge port.
From a practical view, no doubt. From a security point not that much... that is where you are most likely to get hit in any road accident and damaging the port can probably produce a lot of extra costs.
But Tesla drivers prefer other cars with front charger because they do not block anpther Supercharger needlessly (where they are open for other Evs).
I think the Kia E Niro is generally a really really great car.
Only BIG drawback: charging speed of 80kW is just 40% of what it should be...
I much prefer reversing into spaces - at the back for me please
@@tesla-spectre I read you are most likely to get rear-ended in an accident
@@Richard482 by someone's front presumably :)
@@tesla-spectre I guess they have to keep the charge speed down to keep the battery price low. Faster charging means more cooling and extra spare capacity. Unless you do a lot of long trips then it's still just a 30 minute stop so it's probably not worth spending thousands more to save an hour or two a year.
All round brilliant EV (like the last one). But as you mentioned, I totally agree it should have had 130-150kW charge capability. It would have been a 10 out of 10 EV then. But this is still 9/10 but a touch pricey for the fully loaded model.
I drive its uglier (some say quirky) younger sister the Soul and I've never missed or needed super fast charging. Ona 300 mile trip i need to stop for longer than the 20 mins the car needs to top up enough to get to my destination where i can charge. Ona 200 mile trip i dont need to charge at all, and charge overnight at my destination . Maybe if you are a road warrior doing stupid mileage every day lack of fast charging would be an issue, in which case get a Tesla.
@@Joe-lb8qn Not a deal breaker but charging speed curiously under spec from the same manufacturer who make the EV6 (which also has a high real world range) and can charge at 240kW speeds. That speed would not be needed but all manufacturers latest offerings do 100-150kW which is enough. The Soul etc came out a few years ago now. In a few years this car will be lagging behind when it comes to sell. May not matter to you but will matter to a few more.
@@markymarkreviews Yeh, maybe its one of those things that new buyers want but dont actually need. A bit like 10+ years ago everyone wanted a bigger and bigger pixel count on their digital camera ignoring quality and sensor size. I'm finding it hard to source a replacement (just for a change) because very few other cars have equal let alone more range and teh few that do are very large. One of these days after too many glasses of wine I'll just buy a Model Y and be done
@@Joe-lb8qn 👍I am a big fan of the Niro,Kona and Soul EVs as they offer a great range in a compact package. But with cars like the new MG4 EV coming to market for £10k cheaper (and putting aside the "but its's Chinese" issues) it represents the growing competition coming to the EV market. Kia improved on just about everything on this updated model but just gave a slight tweak to the charging profile, which was a bit of a shame.
And at least 1000kg towing like id4 or Model 3. But at least 750kg is better than nothing.
I prefer the charge port on the left side fender. I have a Chevy Volt (not Bolt) 2018 Premier model, and it is so convenient to park in my garage, get out and plug in to the charger on the left wall. In five seconds time I am through! The cable is 30 feet in length so that helps, but most public charging stations have cables long enough to easily reach the left fender.
I like it. It looks like a really great car and your presentation made me feel genuinely excited about it. Nice work Jack. Thanks

'EV6 on a budget' !?!
$61,000 Australian for a family car 😳
Are they serious?
Ive no doubt it's a great car, but that's $1000 more than the already overpriced Tesla model 3.
It's twice the price of Kia's own base model Seltos and $15 k more than the top line version of that car - A car which will do the exact same job.
The promise of 'economies of scale' reducing EV prices is just not happening.
We NEED well priced Mum and Dad family EVs if we are ever going to turn the tide.
In the US the base model 3 starts at about $48k, the EV Niro was about $39k, so the Niro is a good bit less expensive. Although we don't have the new 2023 model out here. But for budget EV's the Volt EUV beats them all and starts about $27k US.
Love this review as a 22’ Ev Niro owner. I test drove this new one and saw some major difference on the interior: switch gear on the doors feels noticeably chintzy, gloss black capacitive controls may push away utilitarian minded and OCD owners, there is less padding on the center and outboard arm rests, there are no rear vents for passengers on the base model like my 22, and the smaller screen in the infotainment is blatant cost cutting when the base model in the US comes with the 10 inch screen. It’s definitely a greater car now in some aspects, but I see drawbacks for the practical minded owners that were marketed to in the past like myself.

I have an MG ZS with the charge point at the front and it’s the one thing I personally hate.
It’s much safer to reverse park, I’d much prefer a charge point on the side of my vehicle rather than the front. Looks neater when parked, safer and easier to pull away again.
Funny, I prefer the ZS to the 4 due to the nose charger. It seems to split people (and reviewers) roughly equally. Are you Mk1 ZS or Mk2? Mk1 nose charger has other issues which can conflate the matter (mine does my head in too some times, sodding bungs)
Much better to pull into the charge point head on. No guessing if the cable can reach. You are over thinking it
Personal preference I guess. I never reverse park, so front would be my preference.
My question would be: what are the alternatives. It seems much less efficient to me to have the charge plug at the sides at the rear, because you limit which chargers you can use (you can only use the one on the correct side of your vehicle). Or you could put the charge socket somewhere at the rear under the boot - but there you have all the sensors and rear camera, etc. To me, front centre is by far the most logical location. Plus, you are not reversing out of the charging station straight on to a road, but into a car park of some sort. Plus it is rare to have cars parked on both sides of you, so visibility should be fine.
Yes, I get that you don't like it. Have a small accident in the front and you'll probably no longer be able to drive/charge while you wait for your repair appointment. However, it does have advantages too. My only real objection is cars that have charge points down the side, say behind the front wheel. This includes Audi, Porsche, etc. You'll hardly ever have a dead easy reach to a raid charger. Teslas are fine, right on the corner. My own ID.3 is OK too. It's sufficiently rearward to be fine.
A word on the Kia Niro. Drop the petrol/hybrid versions and design it ground up as a BEV. It'll be even better.
No heat pump! Really??
It's an optional extra on the top spec
What's the heat pump for?

Having recently hired this at my local car hire place (thank you Cambridge Car & Van Rental for going hard on electrics!) I definitely did enjoy it. Since I'm only hiring a car if I've got a long way to travel, I'm probably using rapid chargers more than most, and even I am content with the charging speed. Frankly, with the so-so rollout of CCS 150 kW+ chargers outside the largest cities (ref: Zap-map), I'm not going to go out of my way (or even change my stopping point) to find one over a 50 kW charger. Almost the reverse - since as a car renter I'm not driving regularly, I need the rest breaks more, so if it takes me 45 minutes rather than 15 to charge 20-80%, that's just more time for me to fortify myself for the next leg of the journey.
The charging point should be in the middle, at the back, so that people can park properly (reversing in, and drive out forward).
Since when is "reversing in" parking properly? Is it a UK rule? I never reverse park.
@@toby9999 That's what my driving instructor told me to do, as you can't see around you properly while reversing out of a carpark space.
Also, it means you can start to steer as soon as you start to drive out of the space, whereas reversing out, the front wants to swing wide, but can't if cars are parked next to you.
So I've always done it that way. I assumed it was correct. Never have checked to be honest.
I agree with my instructor though. It's easier to come out forwards, than reversing out.
@@toby9999 In the UK the Highway Code used to advise drivers to reverse into spaces, driveways etc although I'm not sure it still does. It's considered safer to reverse in and come forwards out.

Yeah, as others have said, I never reverse park. It’s much more difficult to try to back into a tight space between two cars than it is to pull in forward and then back out when leaving. The backup camera and rear cross traffic warning system in the Niro make that even easier/safer.

The local UPS taught my former company's delivery trucks to back in at a destination because the driver's tendency to hurry to the next destination would increase accidents if s/he has to back out. Was it always possible? Of course not, but they had a lot more trucks than we did and a very enviable safety record. That's why I prefer the filler location in the rear.
The new Niro looks amazing but Jack, not everyone wants the charging port to be on the front of the car!! Lots of us reverse onto our drives (if we’re lucky enough to have one) and therefore prefer the charging port to be on the side (especially the right side)!! Great, entertaining video as always.
Actually, that is a good point. I reverse-park everywhere because I can see the way is clear going in (no pedestrians) and I can see clearly going out (no other cars also reversing out, no pedestrians, etc.).
The EV6 with rear wheel drive and the 58kWh battery is in many ways a better deal with nearly the same price.
I didn’t like it as a tall person, but if it had more head space in the EV6 it would have been a no brainer.
I agree, but living in a country lane, which is used as a rat run, with hawthorn hedges the EV6 is just too big. Even my old Ceed gets scratched. They have changed the Niro's characteristics so the FWD isn't so aggresive.
I've just ordered one!
@@rogerevans425 congrats! That’s what I have as well - 2022 model. It is very practical.
If you like the design from the EV 6
I tried both, and still, a choce the Niro.
Especially because the interior .
But I'm also nearly 70 years old.😅
We still love our 2020 Niro EV - although - in Canada we had the choice of 2 colours - white and black - that purple/blue makes me totally envious
Love the kia they come along way since first making cars and like the new nero and great review as always jack 👍🏼 👏
Thank you for mentioning efficiency. Too many EV reviews focus on range and charging speed. I suspect there are a large percentage of potential owners that don't care too much about charging speed or range (as long as it is enough to cover their needs). My guess is that many (if not most) buyers will do most of their charging at home negating the importance of both range and charging speed at a charging station. Efficiency then becomes the most important factor in which EV is the better vehicle.
There needs to be a charging port at the front and the back. At home I reverse into the drive so I can safely see to get out onto the road, a front mounted port would be useless. Yet I see the value in car parks.
Great review! And yes, this seems like quite a compelling automobile 😏

Great review- thanks

Great review but IDK if its just me, but 40K seems a lot for a this class of car (thats for the 3, the 4 is more). Is that outstanding value ? I have a decent job and my outgoings aren't that high but I couldn't afford one which is kinda depressing. Maybe Kia is making a conscious effort to move upmarket (the pricing would seem to suggest they are) which I think is a shame as it reduces the options for people trying to move from ICEs to EVs. MG must be smiling though as they polish their new 4s which are all of 10K cheaper than the Kia - now THAT may be outstanding value.
I s2g a sub-30k EV that's decent shouldn't be THAT hard to make.
Exactly.
Bought a brand new Kia Stonic last year for $18,000 including taxes.
Price has gone up to $19,000 now, but still its half price of this Nero EV.
I see so many expensive cars on the road - I have no idea how people afford them, especially in the current financial climate. Are these people all in debt up to their eyeballs, or are there that many people who are paid a lot of money? I'm paid an average salary, but there's no way I could buy a car that costs more than I earn in a year. That's crazy. I'll be sticking with my 1998 Honda Civic until it becomes un-driveable.
Yeah I completely agree with your sentiment. No matter how much these reviews from many influencers call these vehicles “for the masses” and “affordable” to the average person, these are priced as luxury cars and will remain as such until supply catches up with demand. (My guess is in about 5 years) until then no real point in following too much of the ev market as luxury pricing will be the name of the game for quite awhile.

I think they should have increased the rapid charging rate, 77kW is pretty low these days. Also I believe the motor torque is lower than the older car. Otherwise, a very good EV
The torque was lowered on purpose. The car woud tend to lose traction
Charging is 100kW according to the data sheet, so a 25% gain
@@badpojken yes, but people don't always realize those peak speeds are only reached with optimal conditions, and for a limited state of charge range
Love your work 👍
04:19 "Can we please agree, car brands, that this is where the charge port should just go?" .... No no no no no! That is the absolute WORST place to put the charge port. Why? That's because the one spot on a car most likely to take an impact is the middle of the front bumper. Even a moderate tap will mean you can no longer have access to the charging port.... thus putting you out of "the driving business" with the smallest tap. If you insist on a center-mounted port, put it in the middle of the rear bumper.
I totally agree... That charging port might as well have a target painted on it. The area of a car most likely to receive impact damage (large or small) should not be where the charge port is located. Sure, a dent anywhere on a car is regrettable but don't put the charge port in the spot most vulnerable to even minor collisions.
how would you ever properly wash/wax / keep the green away from the aero gap?
@5:00 - The wheels are 17 inch right as that's on the tire too, not 19 inch as you said. Can you get larger than 17 inch?
Great video mate

Thank you, great review. That charging port in the “Right Place” - front of the vehicle - is a deal breaker for me. My garage is a bit tight and I can’t access a port on the front of the vehicle. My garage is attached so backing in is not an option as I cannot access the door leading to the living space.
Yeah, charging port should be on the sides. Or for premium vehicles there can be two ac only type2 plugs for home use.
If you get 4 miles per KW and the charging speed is 80 KWh, that's "theoretically" charging at 340 miles per hour. Obvs it won't always be charging at max speed, but when you consider the battery size is around 60 KW and how much juice will be in there already at the start of your charging session, it's still really fast! You could easily get a full charge during your weekly shop.
I agree that the charging won’t be an issue for most people. Most car reviewers have a tendency to be kind of snobby in their expectations, and not thinking terms of what would really matter to a person on a budget, which is most people. Jack and most of the people it fully charged are a lot better about this than most reviewer‘s are… though I think he slipped up on this review by making too big of a deal out of this.
Just as a heads-up, you have your kW and kWh mixed up. Efficiency (mi/kWh) and battery storage is in kWh, whereas instantaneous power (the motor and charging) is done in kW.
@@karlbbb oops! I think most people should understand the point I'm trying to make though, so I'll leave it.

Ya know I was just about to write this car off but I remembered something. 1) I rarely fast charge my 2015 Kia soul ev as it is. 2) 80kw slots just under the cheaper price by minute speed of EAs chargers, so it would actually be potentially more cost effective as most of the other chargers here that aren’t EA are 50 or 62.5kW anyway. I think I’m sold.
Changing my MG4 SE SR Monday for the above 😊 ❤
Pretty cool and all but I'm still hanging out for the Sion.
I like a review that tells a story, and this one is top notch
I personally prefer certain styling elements of the old one, but the new one doesn't look too conspicuous I guess... I hate the tail light situation, looks like they just glued them to the side I loved the interior.
So glad the charging port is central at the front not to the right as with some manufacturers and the previous KIA. It just makes the front of the car look asymmetrical otherwise.
Sounds like an honest review. Why didn't you pop the hoods while they wrte side by side? Lots of interesting stuff in there. Any change to the layout. Is it a different motor with same spec or really the same motor? To bad you lost the awsome blue paint.
Have had one of ye-olde e-Niros since March 2019, first batch to come into France. Now 67,000 km in and still loving it. Entertaining review as always but not sure that those wheels are that big, perhaps 18’s...could have said more about the reduction in torque on the new one, different mapping of the loud pedal...also the charging speed, though no better at peak levels is supposed to sustain it for longer..and the fact that the car is not on the same platform as the old one, it’s a bit longer and wider.. If I have a bugbear with ours it’s that peak charging isn’t sustained for long. We did a 1,100 km trip to Frankfurt in mid winter following birth of grandson...12 hours driving plus 3.5 hours charging (mostly at Ionity)..In every case we needed to stop too but would have appreciated 20-30 minute stops rather than 40-50 mins as would be the case with the Renault Megane e-tech, Nissan Ariya, VW ID products etc....the e-Niro size and practicality suits our (retired rural) lifestyle perfectly and the efficiency is as Jack says...the winter/summer average is 14.5 kWh/100 km ..so 4.3 miles/kWh.
How did you find the road noise on the motorway? Thats my main concern long term with this car as I do alot of miles. Any chance you could let me know please?
@@nvk1001 Are you living in the UK? Your question is a good one but I am not sure my answer would be much help. I am from the UK but have lived in France for a long time...what all Brits who live here notice is how much noisier any car you drive is on UK roads, noticeable as soon as you drive off the ferry. When I lived in UK I was a bit of a corporate road warrior, company cars, up and down the motorways, I had some big cars..BMW 5 series, Volvo 850..that kind of thing..The Kia is as quiet as I remember those being...don’t forget that in an EV you notice road and wind noise more as there is nothing much coming from the motor...long hauls in the mountains are most interesting as there is no perceptible change in engine note as the car pulls up hill.. When the car was new it had Michelin tyres on, these days it has Hankook which the dealer here in France recommended and they seem to be quieter. The Kia e-Niro is not the quietest EV on the market so if you do high mileage then you may want to look at something else..other reviewers have said the new Niro is quieter than the old one...I don’t know but on these billiard table smooth French autroroutes ours is as quiet as any fossil car I’ve ever owned. Guess someone has such a sad little life they have to key a car. Cars can get fixed but imagine being that person.

Great vid , waiting for delivery of my Kia Niro E. However I have a couple of questions for you, where do the bottles in the boot go and why does your left arm suddenly appear in a long sleeved jumper.
Great job KIA, I've just bought a bespoke homologation special GR Yaris for a bit of fun on the weekend. But I am considering a second car for more general use and practically for my Mountain bike and generally offsetting my carbon footprint. This just seems like a winner around, I'm glad they haven't changed the drive train and batteries. This does keep manufacturing costs down thus making it more affordable for the likes of normal people. I would be happy to pay a bit extra for a solar panel bonnet and roof if that was ever to be made possible for an optional extra...
Hope to see lots of these about
