  • Once again, Kroil works its magic! We have full rotation on the crankshaft. Let's dig into the valves, clean the fuel tank, fit a carburetor, replace the Champion 25 spark plug, drain and change the "oil", and check the ignition with surprising results! Let's get this nearly 100 year old Standard Tractor running again. Thank you all for watching, commenting, and subscribing. You guys are GREAT! We're going to take this old girl for a putt in the next video, be sure to subscribe so you don't miss it!

    Cool that she fired off. I hope that it will pull itself once you get everything dialed in.

    Great job. I think it would be the perfect project to do a complete tear down and rebuild to make it like new.

      It would be a great candidate for a full restoration. I didn't plan on going that far into it myself, truthfully Im not sure what I'm going to use it for, but I sure am glad it's running again.

    Been following you for a while and never saw your face until this episode. The mystique is gone. You had a Tool Time Wilson thing going.
    Well done on that engine, put a smile on my clock when it first puffed! Cheers!! 🇨🇦

      I apologize for ruining the mystique Andy. Thankfully you had enough dedication to the project to stick it out even after seeing me . I'm glad you enjoyed seeing it run for the first time in years, I sure was happy. I'll get the tank mounted, plumbed, adjust the carburetor and we'll take it out in the next video. Thank you for watching, and commenting 👍

    I'm guessing by the ease everything came apart, it must have been well looked after before it became garden furniture. Great video, well done.

      I was impressed by how easily it came apart too. That Kroil penetrating oil has to be the best stuff I've found for projects like this. I'm glad you enjoyed this video, we'll take it out for a putt putt on the next one. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍

      Great idea! I think we should open it up just to inspect the points and make absolutely sure that there is no rust or debris inside that may cause issues down the road. Thank you for the suggestion, you guys really are GREAT 👍

      I could hardly believe that the magneto was still ready to go. I was so excited to hear the impulse clicking, but almost couldn't find the words when it still fired the lightning.

      @steam212 as soon as you got the intake valve started and saw compression, I knew it would pop right off with that new carb

      We did it Paul, I was so happy when it bumped back on the crank, "she's gonna go" I'll be doing some work on it this week and I promise that you'll all get to go for a putt with me 👍

  • @therandomman6647

    That exhaust valve doesn't have much lift and looks a little bent. I'd run it as long as it seals, though. You gotta take what you can get!

    • @steam212
      @steam212  Před 11 měsíci

      I agree, it was a gamble that has paid off (so far). We still have an ace in the hole (compressor valve) if it proves to be an issue 👍

    here's a video of another one of these Standard Monarchs. You can see the intake valve should be longer with the valve spring outside, that way you can hold it open to prime the engine when you crank it. czcams.com/video/YgXOtHRAT-w/video.html

    • @steam212
      @steam212  Před 11 měsíci

      If the Standard Tractor Co. would write me back with a list of dealers in my area, I would order the factory replacement parts. But until I hear back from them I will have to improvise or make what still exists work. In all honesty though Henry, now that I know it seems to be happy to burn fuel again I will do some measurements and figure out what I need to replace the valve as close as I can to factory specs as possible. When it comes to the 1/8 npt hole in the intake, it will be a great place to install a replaceable valve guide. Im not done with this old girl yet but I'm very happy that she's a runner again.

    Is the engine oil the gearbox oil?

    • @steam212
      @steam212  Před 11 měsíci +1

      It is, it is a dedicated engine cast into the gear case (frame). It really is an oddball of a machine.

    • @therandomman6647
      @therandomman6647 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @steam212 that is amazing! I wish modern designs were that efficient. All modern stuff is designed to be low maintenance, then Disguard the efficiencies of older designs.

    • @steam212
      @steam212  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@therandomman6647 I agree, low maintenance anymore means no maintenance, run it till it won't and then throw it out seems to be the normal now. What happened to the times of "take care of your equipment and it will take care of you"? It's sad to think of how much "old" equipment has been left out to die just to be replaced by something "new & better"
