Hanson bay and the beaches beyond are always worth a fish, always filled with Salmon and Herring (Tommies). Have you tried fishing the other way (long walk!) off the rocks? Some good Silver Trevally can be found and no doubt other species that pull hard. Rob Morton did an article about it years ago, worth a read if you have the time.

hey alex, is it a good or bad strategy to go to a random beach on the yorke with a surf rod? New to SA so not familiar and have to put in the hard work of findin the spots :)

If you have a look at google maps, you will find beaches with nice swell and good gutters (deep sections between the shore and a sand bar or rips). Those are the beaches you want to fish for salmon. You may get lucky and catch them on calm beaches too!
