- Here's how I cleaned and seasoned an old cast iron pan in about 2 hours using salt and steel wool to make it smooth and non-stick.
What is cast iron and how long have people been using it? What oil should you use and what are the smoking points of different oils? Do I use soap to clean a dirty pan?

What I didn't show was how much oil did I put in the pan before putting it in the oven. LIGHTLY oil the pan, not dripping wet. One tablespoon of oil is all that is needed and wipe it well so it looks wet, not dripping wet. Multiple light coats are better than one heavy coat. Thanks for watching!
Thank you!!! I've wondered what to do with my old cast iron pan that I love!!
Amazing! I will definitely use this technique! Thank you Dave!!
I'm going to use this method. Ty!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Very helpful video. I brought 6 cast iron skillets up from the basement to clean. After the first two....I'm done for the day. :)
YAY! Cast iron is great stuff when seasoned properly. Thanks for watching and happy cooking
Good info as always. The history of cast iron was interesting too.
Macca! Thanks for the nice comment and for watching. Much appreciated.
Skillets with the heat ring on the bottom are completely fine for use on electric stoves.
FullBlownRedneck just not nearly as efficient. Not enough contact area. Thx for clarifying!
@@CleanSlateFarm Makes no difference what-so-ever.
@@FullBlownRedneck One with exposed coils...correct. Glass top...not so correct. At least on mine. Heat transfer is inefficient. flat is better on glass tops
@@CleanSlateFarm Lets just agree to disagree on this one.
