  • Alvan & Ahez will represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin with the song 'Fulenn'.
Performing France’s Eurovision 2022 entry, we have Alvan (a multi-instrumentalist musician specialising in electro) and Ahez (a trio comprised of Marine, Sterenn D. and Sterenn L., 3 Breton singers of traditional heritage, who perform contemporary stories mixed with the myths of their region).
The song tackles the Breton legend of a young woman who emancipates herself from societal norms by dancing at night bathed in the light from a bonfire.

    Lalelala lalaleno
    Let's go!
In the darkness of the woods germinates the night
The stars appear in the restless rustle
A feminine shadow twirls in the light of a torch
Ignoring the wild beasts I dance
I steal the fire from their gaze full of lust
And turn it into a song to sing in unison
She dances with the devil, so what?
I dance with the devil, so what?
Heat and mud, heat, party and mud
The forest vibrates with the dancing spark
Its enchanting magic rises up to the tall trees
Ignoring the wild beasts I dance
I steal the fire from their gaze full of lust
And turn it into a song to sing in unison
Fearless in the middle of the forest clearing, the spark is dancing
Raging souls twirl and twirl around her
Fearless in the middle of the forest clearing, the spark is dancing

i’m so sad that the one time france finally decides to do something unique and original with elements of alternative music, traditional mythology, rare instruments and dialects, etc. they get nothing from both jury and televoters. next year they’re gonna send the typical oui oui baguette la tour eiffel omelette du fromage ballad and we’re not gonna see dark pagan forest ravers again :((((

English songs are so boring, it's just done by too many countries because they think if many understand the lyrics that's better, but I much prefer cool songs in a variety of languages, so countries should let their own non-English (minority) languages shine more. I think France going for Breton also is very cool, as French is another language that is still quite common (German too).

being Breton, I am proud to see this song representing our country. We are often frustrated as French people to see that the vision of our country is limited to Paris when there is so much better to see elsewhere in our country! Our regions are beautiful, each one has a strong identity, with its own language and traditions, and this song represents not only Brittany and its Celtic cousins, but also all the other regions of France that make our country multicultural and not limited to just Paris and the Eiffel Tower. This is why I love Eurovision! Discovering different cultures, languages, styles and bands on our continent. So, for example, last year Go_A for Ukraine presented what I think is the best direction for a song at the Eurovision Song Contest. A style between traditional elements and popular music of this days. Although many were skeptical about Katarina's color of voice, in the end, with a spectacular performance, they were 2nd with the televote! This song further reminded me of the diversity in Europe and that France is not just Paris, Nice and Monaco. I hope that new generations will also get to know the Breton language and that part of France through this song. I think the UK and Ireland should turn in that direction and introduce us to their culture, something in the style of Enya. On that note, I send warm Illyrian greetings to the Celtic part of France!
