  • A video for photographers that want to start working towards finding a subject for a personal photo project. I went out to photograph one landmark building, MAS, in my area (Antwerp - Belgium) and see how far I can get with a couple of techniques I wanted to practice with.
In the video I use 2 examples to illustrate the technique. Go check them out:

    00:36 observation exercise

Reflections, environment, framing... of the same subject - never thought about it until I watched your video. Many thanks for a thought provoking item!

Thanks David, that was exactly the goal of this video 😇. Glad you got some inspiration out of it ✌🏻

Absolutely love that last picture of the building in black and white at around 4:10. Could easily be the base of a very cool commercial piece of media, or the start of a high contrast landmarks in Belgium by night collection. Cool museum too, got around to going there recently. Long-time projects are cool, but it's easy to get lost in them too. I started out on something over 7 years ago that I wanted to span 10 years, but looking back, I'm very unsure that the result in 3 years will be what I initially wanted or if I even have all the material for it.

Thanks mate! Indeed, could be a nice idea to explore iconic buildings at night, in monochrome 💯.
A decade is indeed quite some time to stay true to a project, without it going in multiple different directions (which is not necessarily a bad thing). Note to self: make sure to check progress regularly 🫡

I really like the framing shot at 3 min.17 and those night shots are beautiful too! Curious about future photo projects.

I have a feeling it will go in a lot of different directions before actually settling on a project idea 🫣

Helpful and inspiring video! I wonder if setting out to make images around a chosen constant can scratch the same itch as when you collect something you like - that would be great for motivation.

I have a feeling it will indeed be very similar to that. A clear focus on adding new items to the collection 💯
