- čas přidán 13. 09. 2024
- A full watercolour demonstration with commentary by Tim Wilmot showing many watercolour techniques such as a watercolour wash, blending colours, painting around objects, wet in wet and dry brush strokes.
In this demo I will be covering...
1) Choice of Subject. What makes a good watercolour subject. How to simplify the scene.
2) Materials I use such as the paper. I will also cover the paints I use and the palette, plus how I hold the different brushes for different techniques.
3) Doing the outline sketch as the first step. How to draw boat shapes.
4) Doing the sky and the first wash of the background and then the water.
5) Shadows and details on the boats and their reflections.
6) Watch out for the 'sword' brush at the end and highlighting tips.
More information on watercolour demos, lessons and recent paintings by Tim Wilmot can be found at www.timwilmot.com/

Thank you. Very inspiring as always.
+mayurmistry1977 Thank you
Lovely painting too Tim. Here is an observation Tim, I was happy to see you add the arials etc that linked the background to the foreground. I guess you could also do that with some reflections from the background boats and buildings in the water, either with some darks or lifting out some lights.
+Martin Stephenson Yes exactly and a good alternative
Just so beautiful! Truly gifted hands
Thanks Joe
Very pretty Tim.

+Adji Pahlevi Thank you Adji
Nice demo as always Tim
+Martin Stephenson Thanks Martin
I love the looseness of this and how it comes together, I don't dabble in watercolor (yet) but hopefully I'll be able to do this nearly as masterfully some day, amazing work!
Thanks Jay
I love your videos and have tried to replicate many of them during my learning. Thanks so much! One small suggestion - a better camera with brighter lighting would help out a lot. I'd love to see your beautiful work even clearer :)
Cheers again Tim!
Thanks Jay and thank you for the suggestion
Very good!
+HgoArt Thank you
Very inspiring demo thank u
Thanks Jayasree
Great stuff Tim, I just found your demos and was about to say that your microphone was clipping (distorting) in the earlier videos,... but just found this one and hey, you've changed cameras or mikes? your audio now is lovely and clear! please keep this setup mate. Many thanks for your paintings . Your comments and methodology make the whole Demo, come alive. I'm learning a lot.... hopefully :)
Thanks Fred for the feedback. Earlier demos were live streams over the web
Excellent video (: I have a question:
The bottom of the boats - you left those white, because you knew you will use a significantly darker value there.
Can it be preferable to also cover these areas in the earlier washes? (for example - covering them with the color of the water).
Is it more a matter of personal preference to leave these white?
The reason I ask is that I wonder if it may make the painting look too fragmented / disconnected when leaving it white (something that didn't happen in this one - it's splendid!)
Thanks for the wonderful demo. Very appreciated.
- Liron
Thank you Liron and that is a very good idea to connect them in a better way through tone
Great, thank you for the suggestion (:
Great video!
+Jennifer Branch Thank you
Another fantastic demo Tim thank you. I'm trying to order a dagger brush, i paint about the same size as you (paper). So what size is your dagger brush? Can't tell if its small or medium that i need.
+Stephen Pollard Thanks Stephen. Not sure about the size, but hairs about 4cm long on longest edge
+Tim Wilmot Thanks Tim, i went out and bought one, and it measures 4.5 cm on the longest edge, and thats size small. So about right i reckon :)
Thanks for a new video.
+Socrates Alexander Thank you Socrates
Masterful and amazingly instructive, as always. My feeling was that the bottom of the stem of boat nr 3 should be more in shadow. BTW those things are 'fenders' not 'defenders'.
Thanks for the Fender correction Rick - Sometimes I rush the commentary without thinking
Потрясающе...!!!
Thank you
Bellissimo.
Thank you Nunzia
Great job and thank you Tim! I am really enjoying all your demo's as well as the near daily paintings on your website. I love your style. One question: You painted in the background buildings and boats first as opposed to the sky first, as with some of your other demo's. Any reasoning as to what you paint first?
Good question, but I normally do sky first. Not sure this time!
Got it. Thank you!
This is amazing
Thanks Fathya
Thank You Master....🔝🔝
Thank you
Очень красиво . Браво !
👍
Hi Tim, amazing painting. How do you make the whites (ropes)? Is it watercolor white or acrylic white ink or something like that? Tks!!
white gouache, from the tube
@@TimWilmot Thank you!!
vey good demo
Thanks Korti
Very nice.
Thanks Bath
Thank you!
Thank you
Great job Tim . What brand is the dagger brush you use ?
Thank You
+Nicolás Asiain I think it is pro line
Do you have any advice or recommended exercises to get better acquainted with mixing in watercolors and using the mixing well?
Just plenty of practice and a restricted palette.
wonderful painting demo, thanks for posting.which brand of guache do you use?
Winsor and Newton
That is for the white touches, right? I am currently using Holbein Acryla Guache - Chinese White but it just doesn't give the same result. My paint's consistency is not creamy but somehow smooth and gluey and doesn't spread nicely.
Dear Mr Wilmot, i would like to hear from you what brand of paper you use. The surface hard or even soft? Looks like no grain? Kees van Ree, the Netherlands.
+C.L. van Ree It is Saunders Waterford, 300 gms rough texture
It feels like you have another piece of paper and before you apply a big wash you are testing it out on the other paper.
Yes, although I rarely test on a separate piece of paper. Might be a sponge out to the right.
j'ai zapper 10 fois! trop lent!
Je suis desole
Which colors were mixed for the reflection Anyone could tell me?
Ultramarine blue and burnt sienna
Hot or cold press paper? and do you mix your own Neutral tint or buy it.
This is Cold Press and Saunders Waterford paper. I buy Neutral Tint - Have not tried doing my own mix
какой фирмы вы рисуете красками .если не секрет поделтитесь прошу очень
Windsor&Newton, бессмысленно задавать автору вопрос на русском
I do not understand how the "finished shot" is so much more intense in color, especially the blue. Did you work on it more after your video? Because to me, it looks almost like a different painting. Your video colors are washed out, in comparison.
Hi Dave. Thanks for watching. Video and end painting were done with different devices and lighting conditions. Painting was photographed in natural light, and is close to original
精彩👍
Thanks
Great video!
Thank you
